HEAD’S NEWS

Thank you for your patience and working with us to keep

school open earlier this

week. We tried our hardest

to keep the school running,

always mindful of the on-

going affects a school clo-sure has to parents/carers.

Only 3 members of staff

couldn’t make it to school

due to their home location

and so we were able to wel-

come children into school despite the snow fall. There are some

amazing photos of the children playing in the snow on our website.

December got off to a Christmas Cracker of a bang with our annual fundraiser organised by the PFA raising in excess of £2,200. We would

like to thank all those families, friends and staff who came along to

support the event.

Our very talented school choir performed at the Joy of Christmas con-

cert at Cheltenham Town Hall while CK Voices also sang at the Brew-

ery Quarter Christmas Light switch and Grevill House. We are very

proud of both choirs and their choirmasters who work so hard.

Year 6 visited Dean Close Prep School to attend a performance of the

musical “Honk”, based on the story of the Ugly Duckling while Year 5

staged their annual Carol Service at St Mary’s Church and the Baptist

Church. Thank you for your generous donations totalling £288.36 which

will go to Gloucestershire Bundles.

Two schools—one journey

Mrs James and I are delighted with our two schools’ collaboration and

strong partnership. We have shared many planning and training days

together for staff and senior leaders as well as joining forces for many

of the term’s activities. The benefit to the children and staff is clear

and our ‘two schools—one journey’ vision grows ever stronger.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy

Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

Another request for spare items of PE or Games clothing which your child has grown out of.

We are particularly in need of shorts, trainers and daps. Please hand any items you may have in to Reception.

LOST PROPERTY !

On Friday, 15 December all lost property will be placed in Meet and Greet or, if the weather is wet, in the corridor by the Hall. Please have a look to see if any of the items belong to your child.

POLITE REQUESTS

You are reminded that children should not access the school site until 8.30am as

before this time there are no staff on duty to keep an eye on them. On occasions

the gates will open earlier but children should still wait until 8.30.

We have noticed that some of the children who go to Balcarras for a hot meal

have difficulty in cutting up their food. Perhaps you can encourage them at home

to practise.

The number of items in lost property grows daily and, where belongings are

named, the Year 6 Prefects are able to return these to their owners. However, we

still have a huge amount of clothing, shoes, lunchboxes, water bottles

etc which are not named and they are simply left in Lost Property.

In future we will retain any unnamed items for a week and then dis-

pose of the items.

Many thanks—your assistance is always greatly appreciated.

FRIDAY 15TH DECEMBER—CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY!

Paying Lunches by Direct Debit

Many parents have found that setting up a bank direct debit to keep on top of their child’s school dinner money account is a good idea. This is especially helpful if your child has a regular eating pattern perhaps every day or 2 or 3 days per week.

The direct debit can be easily set up by logging on to your bank account or calling in at your local branch to ask them to set this up for you.

Charlton Kings Infant School are wearing Christmas Jumpers to school on Friday 15th December — and so can you if like!

If your child would like to exchange their usual School sweatshirt/cardigan to wear a Christmas jumper, t-shirt or top then feel free. Of course if they would prefer to stay in their usual school sweatshirt/cardigan, this is abso-lutely fine. (We are sure that there will be members of staff who will choose to keep their Christmas clothes for the big day!) This is not a fund raising day, just a Christmas jumper day for the fun of it and so we can join with our sister school!

We recently had some class furniture to move and were delighted

when Mark Smy came to the rescue. His company Connect Logis-tics were able to take on the task of transporting some excess equipment from one school to another for which we are truly

grateful. Many thanks Mark!

Communication between CKJS and Parents

As you will be aware the school uses a texting and email service to communicate with parents and carers. The email system is also used to send letters, newsletters and other attachments home.

We are trying to limit the use of texts as we are allowed a specific number within our contract. Above this number we will be charged for each text. Consequently we only text Contact 1 and texts will only be sent where it is an emergency or we are not able to provide sufficient notice of events such as a club being can-celled.

We will use the email service, which is free of charge, as an alternative and these can always be sent to Contact 1 and 2 on your child’s record.

Should you need to contact school please either telephone on 01242 526171 and use Option 1 to leave a message about an absence, Option 2 should you need to speak to Mrs Jackson the School Business Manager, Option 3 to leave a general message or Option 4 to speak to Reception. Alternatively you can email on [email protected] and the messages can be dealt with or passed on the appropriate member of staff.

Finally you are always most welcome to pop into Reception at any time as there is always someone availa-ble there. Note that we have our Year 6 Office Helpers manning the desk and phone between 12.45 and 1.15 and they will do their best to help you or take a message.

Photos

If parents spectate at any sporting activities or attend special assemblies we would be grateful to received copies of any photos you may have. We always check to see if children are allowed to have their photograph included in the newslet-ter and in any case never publish surnames. Please email in any photos you may have for us to use.

Known Absences

If you know that your child is going to be absent from school for a particular reason such as dance or music exam, sec-ondary school visit, medical appointment, please email Reception rather than the Class Teacher to ensure that we keep our attendance records up to date. Thank you.

FREE SCHOOL MEALS

All Infant School children currently have a Free School Meal every day if they wish to take one.

However, from Year 3 it is up to parents/carers to register for FSM. Even if your child does not wish to take a school meal, there are many benefits to registering and all the information is strictly confidential.

FSM children attract additional funding into the school and in the past been used to cover the cost of school visits for such children, additional support in the class and peripatetic music lessons.

If you think you may be eligible PLEASE DO REGISTER. Any additional funding helps us to help your child.
