• As part of the British Commonwealth, Canada declared war on Germany in 1939; Canadian soldiers fought in battle from the beginning of WWII.
• Some key battles that Canadian soldiers were involved in:• Dieppe Raid• The Italian Campaign• D-Day on the beaches of Normandy, France
• Most people supported participation in the war, as Hitler and the Nazis posed a threat to Britain and Canada.
• The Canadian economy used wartime production to recover from the Great Depression.
• By 1942, Canada adopted a policy of total war, meaning all industries, materials and people were part of the war effort.
