BEVERLY BOOTSTRAPS - SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM
Just a reminder that food donations to the Beverly Bootstraps Food Pantry continue to be crucial for this time of year.
During the summer months when there is less access to food through the schools’ free and reduced lunch programs, families are encouraged to sign-up and visit the pantry every week instead of every 14 days. By coming every week, we are able to in-crease the amount of food available to children and their families. 2019 SUMMER FOOD AVAILABLE JUNE 17-AUGUST 30.
During the school year we partner with Beverly Public Schools to provide food to elementary age children that are at extreme risk and do not have access to enough healthy food on days they are not in school such as weekends and vacation weeks. De-pending on the needs of the family, either pre-packed bags of healthy snacks are provided or additional Food Pantry visits are offered.
Suggestions for food: Juice boxes, snack items such as granola bars, chips, pretzels, and crackers, animal crackers or prepack-aged fruit bowls. Staples such as peanut butter, cereal, tuna fish, spaghetti sauce, pasta are always welcome and always need-ed. Please drop food items in our FOOD COLLECTION BOX at the back of the Church. Thank You

Let me begin by thanking all those in the Collaborative Parish’s who have already made their commitment to the 2019 Catholic Appeal. Support for the Appeal is a tangible way to place a share of our blessings at the service of others. And, while we must be mindful of the responsibility to support our parish, we must also recognize that we are all partners in the greater mission to serve the growing charitable, educational and pastoral needs of our peo-ple.
So, at this time, I ask for your support, especially from those who have not yet made a pledge to the Catholic Appeal, that reflects your desire to share in the Lord’s special work across the Archdio-cese of Boston.
I am encouraging everyone to take part in this program. It is my hope that you will prayerfully consider your blessings and help continue the tradition of service in Christ’s name, seeking out and ministering to those in need.
Please join me and the many faithful who have already participat-ed and shared in this united parish effort by making your pledge today. All that I ask is that you contribute to your best ability.
Please keep in mind that while this is our parish and our spiritual home, we are all part of a much larger Church. If we act together as members of one family united in Christ’s love, we can do great things. In doing so, I trust we will have done our part as a parish family in the Archdiocese and together we will be successful.
The Catholic Appeal is the major source of revenue for the minis-tries and agencies of the Archdiocese of Boston. It is these faith-based programs, services and ministries that enable the Church of Boston, to reach across parish boundaries in the areas of Social Justice, Worship/Prayer, Christian Education, Pastoral Care, Church Administration and Evangelization.
As the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal continues, we are grateful to the parish families that have already made their gift or pledge. For us to achieve our overall goal, it will require the active involve-ment and personal sacrifice of all members of our faith communi-ty. If you have not yet responded to the 2019 Catholic Appeal, please set aside a moment to prayerfully consider a gift amount that reflects your blessings. Your gift will help tremendously and, together with your fellow parishioners, will enable our church to provide essential pastoral, educational and human needs through-out our Archdiocese. Thank you for your support.
If you have not yet made a gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal, please pray about your decision and make a pledge or one-time gift. Your support is vital in continuing to meet the needs of our community and parishes. Please complete a pledge card today or go directly to www.bostoncatholicappeal.org Together, we are Christ’s guiding light for the lives of thousands in our communi-ties.

The Dignity of the Human Person
Equal in Dignity We are made in the image of God, not because we physically look like Him, but because we have the spiritual powers to know (intellect) and love (will). We are made in the image of God and so are unique and precious among all of creation. This one fact, that God loved us into being in His image and sustains us by His love, shows forth each persons great dignity. Everyone—you, your family, your friends, the rich and famous, the poor and homeless, the unborn and the el-derly—all have human dignity and should be treated with honor and respect. When we acknowledge the inherent good-ness and dignity of each person, there is no longer room for any type of discrimination. When we can see each person as a child of God, a son or daughter of the Father, then the way that we treat them should change as well.
Equal but not the Same While we hold that every human is equal in dignity, we also know that there is great diversity among us. Our equal dig-nity does not means that we will be equal in talent, or money or fame. As St. Paul tells us in his first letter to the Corin-thians, “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.” (4-6) To each of us has been given great dignity and one or many gifts. We are called to acknowledge and respect the dignity found in each person, to develop the gifts that we find within ourselves, and to help others to develop and use the gifts that they have been given. We are first called to love, honor and support those around us in our families and communities, and then, by the means given to us, in solidarity with one another, to help others in the world.
The dignity of man rests above all on the fact that he is called to communion with God. This invitation to converse with God is addressed to man as soon as he comes into being. For if man exists, it is because God has created him through love, and through love continues to hold him in existence. He cannot live fully according to the truth unless he freely
acknowledges that love and entrusts himself to his creator. Gaudium et spes 19
God is the sovereign master of his plan. But to carry it out he also makes use of his creatures’ cooperation. This use is not a sign of weakness, but rather a token of almighty God’s greatness and goodness. For God grants his creatures not only their
existence, but also the dignity of acting on their own, of being causes and principles for each other, and thus of cooperating in the accomplishment of his plan. CCC 306
