Electrical safety in photovoltaic power plants
based on IT system with ISOMETER isoPV and
insulation fault location systems EDS
In photovoltaic power
plants, operation as
far possible without
interruption is a key
objective, as a plant
failure will result in a
direct loss of revenue. This situation means that high
requirements are placed on the electrical safety, and
also especially on the plant protection.
The ISOMETER isoPV is an appropriate insulation
monitoring device suitable for the high DC voltage
up to 1,100 V. Due to wide spatial distribution or
EMC interference suppression methods often high
leakage capacitances (up to 2,000 F) against earth
occur in these systems. Considering this, the isoPV
automatically adapts to the system conditions in order
to optimise the measuring time. In particular, the
requirements for permissible voltage ranges along
with a low level of insulation can be met here. In
addition, this insulation monitoring device can be
combined with an automatic or manual insulation fault
location system EDS. The system is flexible and can
therefore be optimally adapted to the various different
types of photovoltaic power plants.

Product: T-ERA Range of low voltage power
Switchgear & Controlgear assembles
The T-ERA low voltage switchboard symbolizes a
new era in power distribution technology. It offers
complete solution in distribution,
protection, control and monitoring
of electrical power. Winner of the
Best Product award, T-ERA is
L&Ts answer to the challenge of
increasing costs of engineering
and installing low voltage
switchboards and emphasis on
operator safety.
T-ERA is an embodiment of life
protection and equipment safety, security and energy
efficiency. The design and development team of L&Ts
Electrical and Automation business has painstakingly
translated research and critical marketing inputs
into a compact design of switchboard which is the
latest example of innovation in compactness, energy
saving, safety (its features go beyond the prescribed
standards), user convenience and flexibility to
reconfigure the design.
T-ERAs contemporary design features include newbusbar design for high level of energy efficiency and
compact footprint with multiple access and stacking
configurations for optimizing substation layouts. It
caters to simplified communications solutions and
serves as a key building block of the concept of
intelligent switchboard. Another feature of T-ERA is
re-engineering and change management through fully
interchangeable modules. In order to ensure highest
level of safety for the operating personnel as well
as safety and reliability of the installation, T-ERAs
efficiently embedded features comprise all closed
door operations, distinct vertical earth bar over and
above the horizontal earth bar and higher clearance
and arc resistant design.

performance. It
has high number
of poles and
better magneticcircuit with the
rare earth PM disc
Rotor. The rotor
of the motor consists of a rare earth magnet having
the shape of a thin disc which is axially magnetized.
A particular magnetization method allows for a high
number of magnetic poles, giving much smaller step
angles. Such a rotor design has a very low moment
of inertia, resulting in outstanding acceleration and
dynamic behavior.
The magnetic circuit is independent. There is no
coupling between phases to get superior angularresolution in micro stepping.
The motor consist of two stator phases & requires
two control circuits. The controller is based on
microstepping principle. The controller is designed to
the get output current to achieve the microstepping
upto 32 steps in both phases. Stepper Motors are
used wherever incremental motion is needed. It is
used in controlling the velocity, the displacement,
and the moving direction. It finds continued
applications in the controlled motion devices,
medical equipments, printers, computer peripheral
devices and other such motion.

Product:ELTRIX DOPS (Despatch Operations of
Power Systems)
Operational efficiency, competitive pressures,
deregulations and quality customer service
requirements continuously influence the energy and
utility industry. Under such dynamic environment, it
is important for utilities to take critical decisions in
their day to day operations for achieving strategic
objectives. Kalkitech ELTRIX software frameworkprovides a platform, addressing intelligent decision
support requirements in the power system domain.
ELTRIX covers the decision support requirements
within Generation, Transmission and Distribution sub-
domains through a number of domain modules.
Dispatch Operations of
Power System (DOPS)
module of ELTRIX
empowers Independent
System Operators
(ISOs) and the Load
Dispatch centres (LDCs)to perform various
business and operational
functions, monitor and enforce grid code compliance
by constituents, optimally schedule Dispatch
Operations, contingency management, demand
forecasting, energy accounting and billing. DOPS
has the capability to support the operations of various
deregulated and regulated markets by means of
standard information modules, rule & work flow
management, and model based interfaces.
DOPS provide scalability for larger operations and
gives advantage of interoperability through IEC-61970and IEC-61968- CIM (Common Information Model)
and GID (Generic Interface Definition) services for
power systems. Further, DOPS has an engineering
interface development environment where customers
can build and use power & energy system models.
One of the key features of DOPS is Domain Rule
Management. It is used for implementing a regulation,
domain/ business rules and strategy which may
change in due course of time like Availability Based
Tariff (ABT) regulations. One of the key features of
