MONSOON JOURNALNOVEMBER 2008

When can you become willing?Only when you have no will of yourown, you become willing. When youhave a will of your own you stand uplike a stone, isn't it? It is just that thisworld, the people, your education, hasalways tried to teach you how to con-quer. You can conquer stones, youcan conquer patches of lands, may beyou can conquer physical bodies. Thephysical, you can conquer to a certainextent. If you want to know the ulti-mate, the only way is to surrender;you cannot conquer. But in the logicalmind surrender is disgraceful; surren-

der is one thing that I don't want todo, because in surrender you will end,so the whole need to conquer is com-ing from the fear of losing yourself. The very need to conquer somethingor somebody has come to you becausethere is a deep fear of losing yourself, losing yourself on many levels. To putit very simply, it is death.

There is a fear; because you donot know how to handle that fear, youwant to conquer people, you want toconquer more and more things, youwant to acquire more and more andmore because otherwise you feel inad-equate. You feel so inadequate thatsomehow the way you're created isnot enough, without all the things thatyou have gathered around yourself.Without it you are not enough, isn't it?You're insufficient. And you also sayyou believe in God. If he's the Creatorand if he created such a lousy beingwho feels insufficient all the time, there is something wrong with him, isn't it? If God created you and youeven say that he created you in hisown image, and if his image is such apoor image which constantly feelsinsufficient and inadequate in life, poor God. It's not you who needs tobe saved; it's him who needs to besaved!

This inadequacy has come, notbecause that's the way you're made. Itis because you have identified yourselfwith little things. When you look atthe vastness of the existence you feelso small and lost. When your wholeidentification fundamentally is rootedin this little bit of flesh that walks onthis planet, then naturally you feelvery, very inadequate. You have toprove yourself every moment. Peoplearound you have to praise you, haveto tell you you're special, and con-stantly boost you all the time, other-wise you'll feel lost.

Now, to become willing means notto identify yourself with the limited, that's all it means. "How do I do that? That's all I know." It is to handle this

issue that they started talking to youabout God; drop identification with lit-tle things, and identify with somethingthat you cannot see; identify withsomething that we are saying aseverything. But now you reduce Godalso to another physical form like your-self, and you identified with that andnow my God and your God are atquarrel, they're waging wars againsteach other, unfortunately. Everydevice that is created needs to beoverhauled periodically because it getscorrupted over a period of time. Oncepeople realize, or once people start

looking at the back of the device, thedevice will not function anymore. Newdevices have to be created, becausethe device itself is of no importance;how well it works is all that matters, isn't it? This is just like, I say, "Look atthe flower," but you got stuck with myfinger, because I used the finger topoint at the flower.

So shifting your identification fromone to another, another thing toanother are tricky and dangeroussometimes. This may take a whole life-time to release yourself from the nextlevel of identity, unless there is a liveguru around you who constantly keepsbreaking you, breaking you, breakingyou. And if by some fortune you don'trun away, the process can be has-tened. You don't like people who breakyou, you like people who boost you, isn't it? So if you don't happen to runaway, and you allow yourself to bebroken in different, different steps, theprocess can be hastened.

But if the whole game is such thathe has to do the job with you verydiplomatically, that he can't directlybreak you, he has to go around you, create a whole situation before heknocks you once on your head, then ittakes a long time. He's patientbecause he's not in a hurry but youbetter be in a hurry. Don't try tobecome willing; just stop identifyingyourself with what you consider asyourself.

"Then what else should I do?"You can't simply be, because yourmind goes on identifying itself withanything and everything, so identifywith that which breaks you, don'tidentify with that which boosts you.
