July 2019 Inside This Issue
1510 11th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55404 612-238-5255
Happy Fourth of July! Wow, summer is really
here! Thank you for welcoming so many new
residents and employees over the past few
months; this is really such an inviting and inter-
esting place!
At the end of July, the Home Office will be mov-
ing a new office in Edina. This will give Augusta-
na Apartments the ability to convert those offices
back to apartments and welcome many new resi-
dents. If someone you refer to Augustana Apart-
ments moves in, you are eligible for to earn a
$500 referral bonus. Please see Danielle in Mar-
keting for more information on this opportunity.
A few other reminders for July:
1. The Business Office will be closed on Friday,
July 5th but will be reopen on Saturday, July
6th
2. On Saturdays, the Business Office does not
cash checks or make change for quarters.
3. If you have a car in the garage or parking lot
make sure it is locked and never leave any-
thing of value in your car. Whenever you
come and go from the garage, please watch
that the garage door closes completely.
Please call the office (or security after hours)
if the garage is not closing.
4. When throwing trash out please make sure
that the bags are tied up. When recycling
cans/bottles/ other items make sure they are
rinsed out to reduce any smells or pest.

There are many countries which have their Independence Day during the month of July. These include the United States, Belarus, Venezue-la, Argentina, Belgium, the Bahamas, and the Maldives. The national days for France and Canada occur in July as well.
July is the warmest month in the Northern Hemisphere on average. It
is similar to January in the Southern Hemisphere.
Sometimes the hot, long days of July are called the "dog days of sum-mer".
July is sometimes called the Hay month because the grass dries out due to a lack of rain and can be made into hay.
July's birthstone, the ruby, is often associated with contentment, love,
passion, and integrity.

Health & Fitness You’re Never Too Old
Keep Active as You Age
We’ve all heard that exercise is good for you. Did you know that it’s as true for older adults as it is for any age group? You’re never too old to get moving, get stronger and improve your health. Fitting exercise and physical activity into your day can enhance your life in so many ways. Regular physical activity can improve your balance and boost or maintain your strength and fitness. It may also improve your mood and help you manage or lessen the impact of conditions like diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and de-pression. Despite these proven benefits, exercise and physical activity rates among older adults are surprisingly low. Only about 30% of people ages 45 to 64 say they en-gage in regular leisure-time physical activity. This falls to 25% of those between the ages of 65 and 74, and 11% of people age 85 and older.
Experts recommend 4 types of exercise for older adults: endurance, balance, strength and flexibility. Brisk walking, dancing and other endurance exercises improve the health of your heart, lungs and circulatory system. Strength exer-cises include lifting weights or using resistance bands. They can increase muscle strength to help with activities such as carrying groceries or lifting grandchildren. Balance exercises can help prevent falls—a major health risk for older adults. Stretching, or flexibility exercises, can give you more freedom of movement for bending to tie your shoes or looking over your shoulder as you back out of the driveway. Spiritual Life Greetings Augustana Apartment Residents,
In the process of moving over my personal effects into the Campus Director of Spir-itual Care office, I took a moment to hold some of my most treasured ministry pos-sessions. While I've had some of them for a long time, like my gospel writer's bell, some are new and special items I've collected since arriving here 22 months ago. I have notes from some of you and drawings that bring light and life to my workspace. They are symbols of the relationships that have already formed in my time so far. I want to share with you how honored I am to get to continue my work here in this new role.
My ministry background is as an ordained United Methodist pastor. I'm a graduate of Coe College, worked for the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and then the Smithsonian American Art Museum. I received my Masters of Divinity from Vanderbilt University's Divinity School and served as a pastor in Iowa for several years before a Clinical Pastoral Education residency at Minneapolis's own University of Minnesota Medical Center. My daughter was born just last November so be on the lookout for updated photos of her on my door.
I'm excited to meet you, get to know you and continue to be part of your community. I'll be making the rounds to introduce myself in person soon and welcome you to stop by my office as well.
