THE WORD THIS WEEK
We arrive at the fiftieth day ‑ the completion of the Easter Season, and the completion of the Paschal Mystery: the Lord has died, is risen, has ascended to heaven and now gives birth to his Church, by sending the Spirit upon the apostles. This feast of the gift of the Spirit is so significant for us, because it marks the handing on of Jesus' ministry to the Church ‑ in the Church we are guaranteed the presence of the Lord, in his sacraments, in his ministers, in the Blessed Sacrament and in his Celebrated Word. It also marks the fulfilment of our thoughts about baptism throughout this season: the gift of the Spirit which we receive in Confirmation is the `seal' of our baptism, guaranteeing and confirming all that baptism achieves.
As the Father
sent me, so I am sending
you: receive the Holy Spirit

EVANGELISATION
A plan of Evangelisation for the Parish - for those already practicing; those who have left the Church and those who don't know Jesus at all.
Evangelisation is making Jesus known and loved
and moving people towards a personal relationship with him as a disciple. During Lent a group of 12
people met each week to discuss a book by Sherry Weddell called Forming Intentional Disciples. The
fruit of those prayerful discussions has been a plan which looks like this:
From now:
Continue to develop welcoming teams in both Churches. This is a priority to make visible those who can help and give information and connect
people. Identify a team of people to facilitate a number of
Alpha courses (Alpha is a basic course on the Christian Faith) from Pentecost to the summer.
From Easter to Pentecost
Pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit - everyone can join in this
Increase Eucharistic Adoration - can you help with this?
Explain the vision of a parish of Disciples through homilies and newsletter
Advertise the Alpha Course widely to everyone in Gorton
Develop resources that enable people to engage with Jesus: prayer cards etc Train the Alpha course team.
Begin to develop pastoral zones within the parish to increase a sense of belonging and
provide contacts and networks for prayer; support and action
From Pentecost to Summer time Deliver Alpha courses in our parish
Review all our Catechetical courses to emphasise evangelisation first prior to catechesis –
relationship with Christ before trying to give the teaching of the Church.
Maintain the focus on Discipleship through small groups; homilies and the language we use in our
parish – a gathering of Disciples.
Follow up
Deliver Alpha to a wider audience throughout Gor-ton
Called and Gifted Weekends to help people discern their own calling.
Life in the Spirit to help deepen personal relation-ships with God
Increase in retreats; activities and groups that people can join to gain a stronger
sense of belonging and support in Faith.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNIONS
Over the next 3 weeks we will have the joy of celebrating First Holy Communions in our parish. This is a tremendous opportunity to remind ourselves what a gift the Eucharist is and it's also an opportunity to welcome the families and friends of our children. Take the opportunity to show off what's best about us as a community by welcoming and praying for and with people. Congratulations to all our children as they encounter the Risen Jesus in this beautiful way.

Fr. ANDREW‘S MOVE
As previously announced on 22nd May 2016 I will be leaving the Parish here in
Gorton and will take up ministry at St Michael & St. Bernadette, Whitefield. There
I will collaborate with and assist Fr. Chris Lough in meeting the needs of the parish
in Whitefield whilst at the same time continuing with my developmental work for the Diocese regarding missionary parishes.
There is obviously great sadness at leaving Gorton after 10 very special years. I’m filled with gratitude and you really have been a blessing in my life.
Now is the time for us to celebrate God’s generosity and love and to look forward
with great hope.
I'm delighted to announce that the new parish priest will be Fr Derek McCartney.
Please see a note from him below.
Fr Derek will begin his ministry here on June 13th. I'm sure you will welcome him
and help him to feel at home.
There will be 3 weekends covered by other priests between my departure and Fr
Derek's arrival.
A Message from Fr. Derek McCartney
Dear Parishioners,
I'm Fr Derek, and I'm delighted to be joining you as your new parish priest.
At present, I'm at St Mary's in Clayton-le-Moors near Accrington, but before
that I was at St Anne's and St Brigid's in East Manchester, and so I know a
little bit about the joys and challenges of ministry in your area. I can see from the
parish website that there is a lot going on in the parish and I'm looking to working with you to strengthen the parish community and developing the links with the
wider community, building on all the good work that you've done with Fr Andrew.
A few details about me: born 1966 in N Ireland, ordained priest 1998 in
London, first parish St Philippe Maroua Cameroun 1999, incardinated into the
Diocese of Salford 2015.
I love being a priest and as well as that my two big interests are cooking and
walking. I especially like hot spicy food and my greatest walking achievement has
been to complete the Camino in Spain in 2009, 500 miles in five weeks.
I look forward to meeting you all in early June.
God bless.

PRAYER OF POPE FRANCIS FOR THE JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY
BEGINNING DECEMBER 8TH 2015
Lord Jesus Christ,
you have taught us to be merciful like the
heavenly Father,
and have told us that whoever sees you sees
Him.
Show us your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and
Matthew from being enslaved by money;
the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking
happiness only in created things;
made Peter weep after his betrayal, and
assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us,
the words that you spoke to the Samaritan
woman:
“If you knew the gift of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible
Father,
of the God who manifests his power above all
by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be
your visible face in the world, its Lord risen
and glorified.
You willed that your ministers would also be
clothed in weakness in order that they may
feel compassion for those in ignorance and
error:
let everyone who approaches them feel
sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of
us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of
Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord,
and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm,
may bring good news to the poor,
proclaim liberty to captives and the op-
pressed, and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this through the intercession of Mary,
Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with
the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and
ever.
Amen.
