This weekend begins our Diocesan Services Appeal (DSA). Our DSA theme “See That You Also Excel in This Grace of Giving”, taken from II Corinthians 8:7, reminds us that growing in Christ includes growing in the grace of giving.
Next weekend our parish, and all parishes throughout our diocese, will conduct Commitment Weekend for our Diocesan Services Appeal. This is when we will be asking each member of St. Mary Parish to consider, prayerfully, a generous gift to DSA. Our parish goal is $58,463, we can reach this if each one of us shares a portion of the many blessings God has bestowed upon us. Please prayerfully consider how you or your family will respond to this call to carry on Christ’s work in our community.
The Diocese of Lansing is accepting applications for the Director of Formation for Primary Grades. To read more about the position and how to apply go to www.dioceseoflansing.org/employment
Open House Opportunities for St. Mary Catholic School St. Mary Catholic School will be hosting an Open House on each Thursday from 1:30-2:30 for the rest of the school year. Please let parents who are looking for a traditional education enriched with Catholic values and a family atmosphere know they are encouraged to come and witness the difference at St. Mary in Pinckney. During the open house, potential families will view students learning through the use of interactive white boards, working with Chrome computers in the classroom, and working and learning together through group and individual work. All are welcome to come and Witness the Difference at St. Mary in Pinckney. By calling the school office at 734-878-5616, parents can request additional times for tours for their students in grades preschool to 8th grade.
Kindergarten Round Up at St. Mary Catholic School Kindergarten Round Up Parent Informational meeting will be on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 6:00 in the Kindergarten room. This meeting is for anyone interested in our kindergarten program. We will have a short presentation and a time for questions and answers. Kindergarten Screening will take place on Monday February 29th during the school day. Parents will have the opportunity to sign up to have their child screened at the parent meeting or by calling the school office.
Special Thank You!!! Thank you to Mr. Jim Wallace and his wife, Linda for coming into the school to teach our seventh and eighth grade students about the history and care of the United States flag. The students enjoyed your very informative presentation, learning how to raise and lower the flag, and the appropriate way to fold the flag while being showing respect for this very important symbol of our country. Your example of the virtue of Patriotism was very valuable to our students as we continue to become disciples of Christ’s virtues.
What is the cost of educating your child at St. Mary Catholic School? For a family with one student the cost per day is $27.45; two students $21.38 each; three students $18.60 each. Let’s think about it another way. I hear the going rate for a babysitter is $10.00/hr. or more. At St. Mary this year, we will be in school for 1271.5 hours (only need 1098). Parents pay $3.66/hr. for one student $2.85/hr. for two students and $2.48/hr. for three students. How much is one Happy Meal or that coffee at Star Bucks? We have scholarships available. Parents can make payments. If you want your child to have a Catholic education but think that you can’t afford it, please come and talk to Mrs. Kinsey, the school principal, or Father Bill. All conversations are confidential. Make that call today, the value of a Catholic education is priceless and you won’t regret it. Mrs. Kinsey can be reached at 734-878-5616.

COME AS YOU ARE No time to get involved but wishing for spiritual
growth or a way to be more involved in our parish family?
Our loving God gives us all the time we need.
Each Sunday you're invited to participate in a spiritual,
holy and powerful way to share your faith with God and our
parish: bringing the gifts to the altar.
It's easy and fast: Tell the ushers you want to present the
gifts when you get to church. If it's your first time, they will
help you. At the Offertory, you literally walk up to Father
and he takes it from there.
As a “come as you are” parish, you don't even need to
worry about what to wear. After all, Jesus walked in the dust
in sandals and only saw what was in the people's hearts.

KANS FOR KIDS UPDATE: One of our kids in the Kans for Kids program, Meylin, is
leaving the program. She is going to graduate shortly
as an accountant and is moving forwards to achieve her life's
goals. She says good bye, with a kiss and hug, and wishes
to thank everyone who helped and supported her in the Kans
for Kids program.
We also just received a letter from the mother of our newest
child, Andres, who is just 5 years old. One of the benefits
she has received is a new mattress for his bed which allows
him to sleep comfortably and dream of great things,
instead sleeping on the floor. His family is grateful of the
support they are getting from the Kans for Kids program.
