This course is about aviation his-

tory focusing on the develop-

ment of flight throughout the

centuries. It starts with ancient

civilization, then progresses

through time to modern days. It

emphasizes civilian and military

contributions to aviation, the de-

velopment and modernization of

the United States Air Force, and

a brief history of astronomy and

space exploration.

EXPLORING SPACE: THE

HIGH FRONTIER

Begins with the study of the

space environment from the ear-

liest days of interest in astron-

omy and early ideas of the heav-

ens, through the Renaissance,

and into modern astronomy. It

provides as in-depth study of the

Earth, Suns, stars, Moon and So-

lar System, including the terres-

trial and the outer planets. It dis-

cusses issues critical to travel in

the upper atmosphere.

THE SCIENCE OF FLIGHT: A

GATEWAY TO NEW HORI-

ZONS

This course outlines how airplanes

fly, how weather conditions affect

flight. Flight and the human body,

and flight navigation. The course

is designed to complement materi-

als taught in math, physics, and

other science-related courses and

is aligned with the National Sci-

ence Education Standards and

Math Standards and Expectations.

CULTURAL STUDIES: AN IN-

TRODUCTION TO GLOBAL

AWARENESS

This course is a customized

course regarding the world’s cul-

tures and is designed to introduce

students to the study of world af-

fairs, regional studies, and cul-

tural awareness. It delves into

history, geography, religions, lan-

guages, culture, political sys-

tems, economics, social issues,

environmental concerns and hu-

man rights.
