Program Description: The American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN)—a NationalCancer Institute (NCI) Clinical Trials Cooperative Group—is sponsoring a Fellowship in clinical trialsto be awarded to up to four individuals annually: three fellowships in any subspecialty of medicalimaging (funded by NCI) and one fellowship in breast imaging (funded by the Avon Foundation).

The Fellows will receive training and experience in the development and conduct of rigorous, multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional clinical trials of medical imaging technologies. The Fellowship willconsist of both didactic and experiential components: 5 months didactic training at ACRIN Biostatisti-cal and Data Management Center, headquarters, and the NCI Biomedical Imaging Program, and 19months working with ACRIN investigators on ACRIN trials at the Fellow’s home institution (duringthis period, Fellows may also participate in usual clinical service and teaching activities).

The didactic component consists, sequentially at the start of the program (September–November2003), of 1 month each at the ACRIN headquarters in Philadelphia, Pa, the ACRIN Biostatisticaland Data Management Center at Brown University, Providence, RI, and the NIH Biomedical Imag-ing Program, Bethesda, Md (total of 3 months). Two additional didactic months occur at the veryend of the program (July–August 2005) at one or more of these sites.

For the intervening 19 months (December 2003–June 2005), Fellows will increasingly assumeleadership roles in ACRIN trials, working out of their home institutions. Fellows will attend thesemi-annual ACRIN meetings at ACRIN expense. The ultimate goal is to have each Fellow designand lead as Principal Investigator an ACRIN clinical trial.
