A true patriot....What defines a patriot? Is it

their love of country or their end-less devotion to duty? Is it theirselfless service or their actionsthat inspire the next generation toserve their country?

It is not every day that youhave the opportunity to witness atrue act of patriotism from one ofAmerica’s heroes. Just recently atCamp Shelby we had the honor tocelebrate the service of Petty Of-ficer First Class William A.Barnes, U.S. Coast Guard, WorldWar II. As his last wish, Barnesdonated his U.S. Coast Guarduniform to the Mississippi ArmedForces Museum in a special cer-emony on Nov. 16.

One of the things that inspiredme the most was the courage andthe valiant patriotism of WilliamBarnes. Even now when hishealth is failing him, he stillstands out of his wheelchair forthe American Flag. Barnes is atrue patriot to inspire the futuregenerations of Americans andmilitary service members.

I trust that you and your Fam-ily had a wonderful Thanksgivingsurrounded by Family andfriends. Let us not forget ourcomrades in arms who are serv-ing our nation so bravely inharm’s way during the holidays.

Team, welcome members ofthe 55th Heavy Brigade Combat

Team, Pennsylvania Army Na-tional Guard and the 133rd Engi-neers from the Wyoming ArmyNational Guard as they completetheir mobilization training atCamp Shelby. These are just afew of our comrades in arms thatwe have the honor in assistingwith their mission readiness.Continue the standard of excel-lence that Camp Shelby is knownfor by providing superior trainingand support for mobilizingtroops.

in arms. Thank you for your serv-ice and sacrifice. Welcome backand congratulations on a job welldone!

Thanks to all of you for yourdedicated support as we continuethe mission of mobilizing and de-mobilizing American heroes. It isan honor and a privilege to assistAmerica’s finest patriots as theyembark on their journey for thecontinued fight for freedom.Thank you for all that you do andkeep up the good work.
