STATE TIMES NEWSBANIHAL: Police on Sunday foiled a bovine smuggling bidby rescuing 14 bovines from the clutches of a Gujjar who wassmuggling them.

As per the details, Ramban Police on a specific informationlaid a Naka at T Chowk Banihal and during checking, atruck (JK02 AH 5977) was found with 14 bovines laden init which were rescued.

The driver which was identified as Yoqub Hussain Gujjar,son of Mohd Aslam, resident of Bugyal Haveli Poonch wasarrested and a case vide FIR 05/19 under Section 188 RPCand 3 PC Act was registered against him. The arrest andrecovery was made by Insp Aejaz Wani and SI ShamimAhmed under the supervision of SDPO Banihal SajjadSarwar, Additional SP Sanjay Parihar and SSP RambanAnita Sharma.

Man found dead with throat slit STATE TIMES NEWS

RAMBAN: A 30-year-old man was found dead on Sundaywith his throat slit at his residence in Ramban district, policesaid. The body of Purshottam Chand was found inside hishouse in Ramban's village Chakwa, a police official said.

He said police visited the spot and removed the body forpost mortem. The body was later handed over to thedeceased's family for last rites, he added. Police said a probeis underway to ascertain the sequence of events.

R S PURA: A man was seriously injured in a murderousattack in RS Pura area and was immediately shifted to localhospital.

According to information, Kuldeep Kumar, resident ofMaluwal, R S Pura was attacked by Avneet Singh aliasNaagi, resident of Sunderpur, R S Pura and his associateswith a sharp-edged weapon in which he was seriously injured.

The R S Pura Police taking cognisance of the complaint hasregistered a case for investigation. Meanwhile, police haslaunched a search operation to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile, Jhajjar Kotli Police also registered a caseagainst Neel Kumar resident of Jindrah on the complaint ofAshok Kumar resident of Jindrah stating therein that Neelattacked him with a sharp edged weapon over an old dispute.

RAMBAN: Two persons travelling in a car got injured whenit met head-on with a truck at Sangaldaan area of Rambanon Sunday.

According toreports, a Maruticar (JK02R 9290)on its way fromSangaldaan tomain market, meethead-on with aTruck (JK02AJ-5547) coming from opposite side. Locals and police shiftedboth injured persons to PHC Sangaldaan, where after firstaid both were shifted to District Hospital Ramban.

The injured have been identified as Balwan Singh (26),son of Sarban, resident of Bandan and Bori Singh (27), sonof Bayang Ram, resident of Barla, Ramban. Police hasregistered a case in this regard at Police StationSangaldaan.

STATE TIMES NEWSRAJOURI: With killings offour heavily armed terroristsand arrests of several otherslast year, an alert police forceand security agencies man-aged to keep in check thespread of terrorists' base inthe border district of Rajouri,a senior police officer said onSunday.

The arrested personsincluded four over-groundworkers (OGWs), who werein close contact with Al-Badrcommander Zeenat-ul-Islam,killed on Saturday in a gun-fight in Kulgam district ofsouth Kashmir along with hisfour accomplices, saidRajouri's SeniorSuperintendent of PoliceYougal Manhas.

Manhas said the policemanaged to foil a number ofterrorism-related incidents inclose coordination with theArmy and other securityagencies last year and tookstern action against peopleinvolved in unlawful activitiesincluding drug peddling andbovine smuggling.

On counter-insurgencyfront, security forces last yearkilled four terrorists, who had

infiltrated from Line ofControl (LoC), he said.

The terrorists were killed onthe intervening night ofMarch 27 and 28, within daysafter they infiltrated fromLine of Control (LoC), hesaid.

The four infiltrators weretracked down after a three-day operation and neutralisednear Sunderbani town.

In another significant anti-terrorist operation, the policeand 38 Rashtriya Riflesjawans nabbed two ultras inJune 2018, he said, addingthe ultras had escaped fromthe valley after snatching apoliceman's weapon.

They were overpowered andnabbed even as they tried toopen fire at security forces atThannamandi Main Chowk,the SSP said.

He said besides these, thepolice and 48 RashtriyaRifles, in a joint operation,arrested last year four OGWsrunning a hawala racket inRajouri and recovered a hugeamount of hawala moneyfrom them, he added.

These OGWs were in closecontact with Al-Badr com-mander Zeenat Ul Islam and

engaged in garnering finan-cial support for the terroristoutfit in Rajouri but werearrested by forces," he said.

The police also detained 11anti-social elements underPublic Safety Act, the SSPsaid, adding they wereengaged in bovine smugglingand drug peddling besidesoperating as OGWs for vari-ous terrorist outfits.

In its drive against drugpeddling, 32 FIRs were regis-tered and 52 persons werearrested across the districtfollowing recovery of hugeamounts of narcotics fromthem, Manhas said.

Besides these, 109 others,involved in different kinds ofunlawful activities includingdrugs peddling and thefts,were taken into preventivecustody on executive magis-trate's orders, the SSP said.

The police also opened his-tory sheets for 46 criminals,involved in drug peddling inthe district, with an aim tokeep a closer watch on them,the officer said.

The police last year alsoarrested 237 people, involvedin bovine smuggling and reg-istered 198 cases against

them across the district, hesaid.

On traffic managementfront, the police fined 12,329erring drivers and collected arevenue of Rs 16,45,415,besides registering a total of116 cases of accidents andoverloading of vehicles lastyear, he said.

On delivery of public serv-ice, the SSP said, the policereceived 7,648 requests forpassport verifications anddisposed them all within stip-ulated period, besides con-ducting 2,454 service verifi-cations in a time-bound man-ner last year.

The police also verified andissued 811 LoC permits lastyear, besides issuing 1,507character certificates to can-didates applying for variousgovernment and other jobs. The police also managed toapprehend 33 absconders lastyear, he added.

The SSP said the policealso held 178 interactionmeetings with public acrossthe district in 2018 with anaim to secure people's cooper-ation and assure them ofpolice readiness to help themin time of needs.

STATE TIMES NEWSRAJOURI: GeneralReserve Engineering Force(GREF) has launchedmajor snow clearance opera-tions on various roads underits control in Rajouri andPoonch districts which gotclosed due to snowfall onSaturday and Sunday.

An official of GREF saidthat various roads includingThannamandi DKGSurankote road, BudhalMahore Gool road, PoonchMandi Saujiyan roadbesides several others gotclosed due to snowfall onSaturday.

He added that soon afterthe snowfall, some of theroads were cleared for traf-fic on Saturday late eveninghours while few others were

restored for traffic onSunday morning.

He applauded the effortsof GREF CP workers andsaid that entire men andmachinery of GREF isworking tirelessly in thesesnow clearance operations.

He further said that traf-fic on Thannamandi DKGSurankote road is stillaffected due to snowfallwhile operation is going onat full pace to clear the roadwhile a couple of other roadswill be cleared for traffic innext few hours.

He said that GREF isworking tirelessly to ensurethat snow clearance opera-tions conclude at the earlieston pending axis and trafficis restored on all the snowbound roads.

The programme wasattended by 20 partici-pants from different areasof Reasi District and wasorganised under the guid-ance and supervision ofAssociate DirectorExtension and Incharge ofKVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr.

R.K Arora. Dr. Arorainteracted with the partici-pants and encouraged themfor the entrepreneurshipdevelopment in vermicom-post. He stressed on themarketing of the vermi-compost and said that suchtypes of programmes arehelpful to create employ-ment and income opportu-nities in the rural areas. Healso emphasized on theexposure visit of the farm-ers. He appreciated theKVK, Reasi efforts for pro-viding the latest and needbased technologies to thefarmers.

KVK organises skilldevelopment training

STATE TIMES NEWS BHADARWAH: Like otherparts of the State and else-where, Lohri was celebratedat Bhadarwah with utmostcheerfulness and grandeuron Sunday.

The main attraction ofLohri in Bhadarwah wasthe bonfires which were litin all areas and people gath-ered while singing anddancing around it.

On the occasion, numbersof rituals were also per-formed by people like throw-ing of Walnuts,Groundnuts, Sesame Seeds,Rewaris, Popcorns and sev-eral other items into thefire. They dance around itto mark the end of winterseason and to welcome theseason of fruitfulness,spring and the New Year(As per the BikramiCalendar).

STATE TIMES NEWS DODA: To frame properstrategy to highlight issuesof National Health Mission(NHM) employees, a con-vention cum meeting washeld at DistrictHeadquarters Doda onSunday which was chairedby District PresidentNHM Union Doda FaizanA Tramboo.

The meeting was attend-ed by representatives fromeach block, active membersand NHM employees of thedistrict.

Tramboo said that morethan 12,000 NHM employ-ees of the State have beenwaiting anxiously for theirregularisation but it isunfortunate thatGovernment is not consid-ering their case.

During the course of dis-cussion, it was observedthat most of the issues arestill lingering on thoughthe union in this regardhas submitted representa-tions to previous regimesand Governor's adminis-tration.

The District NHM UnionDoda appealed to all theNHM Employees for get-ting united on one plat-form to get justice at theearliest.

Meanwhile, the NHMUnion Doda unanimouslydecided to offer and extend

its support to the 48 hoursstate wide protest callgiven by All J&K NHMEmployees Association.

STATE TIMES NEWSPOONCH: Members of Sustainable Development andEnvironment Protection Mission (SDEPM) called on DCPoonch Rahul Yadav and urged him stop practice of dispos-ing all the waste of Poonch City near the river Poonch andmake arrangements for proper solid waste management.

"Dumping of solid waste/ garbage near running RiverPoonch is a major cause of concern for everyone" they saidadding that "we request DC Poonch to at least identify a suit-able location to shift the dumping site temporarily till theComplete Solid Waste Management Plant is established atPoonch".

Those who were present and spoke include AdvocateIntakhab Ahmed, Advocate Bhanu Partap, Advocate TahirMahmood, Advocate Toseef Akram and Roman Manhas.
