Manager Notes
Don‟t forget to sign up for the End of Summer ~ Pool Party on Saturday, September 3rd 2 PM – 6 PM. Hosted, and Organized by Mary Morin and Betty Paul. Funded by Mary & Betty and Co-Funded by LHV Management. As well as our very own resident Ron Plouffe will be the entertainment. Mary and Betty have planned lots of fun activities and games (with prizes) for everyone. Even though this is called a “Pool Party” there will be lots of activities and games planned both at poolside and inside the clubhouse. The small charge of $1.00 is only to help pay for the great prizes that Mary and Betty have purchased. Hot Dogs will be supplied “free”. Bring a snack to share and BYO drink of your choice. Even if you „forget‟ to sign up…..just show up for this fun planned afternoon.
REMINDER It is that time of the year again that many of our homes are in need of power washing. This hot humid weather brings the “green” out on our homes. Be sure to check the sides and back of your homes as the front might be okay. Thanks…
Lake Hammock Village is now on FACEBOOK! Hopefully by the time you are reading this our LHV Facebook account will be up and running!
On Thursday, September 22nd at 6:00 PM the H.O.A. has invited Paul Johnston, General Manager for Heiler Communities, to meet with the residents. Paul is looking forward to discussing any issues and concerns you as a resident may have regarding Lake Hammock Village and the community in general. Paul is all about “helping the residents” and having a good line of communication between Residents, Home Owners Association and Management.
„REMINDER‟ PICK UP THE POOP! On several occasions as the sales department has been showing prospective „new‟ residents around the park, out to the lake and thru the RV storage area there have been several seen piles of „poop‟ NOT picked up…especially on
the side of our paths out to the lake and around the RV Storage area. Please, Please, Please be courteous to your fellow residents and clean up after your pet!

The sapphire is the gem for September.
The morning glory is the flower for the month of September.
According to the Georgian calendar, September is the ninth month. But, on
the Roman calendar, it was the seventh month. September has had 29
days, and 31 days; but, since the time of the emperor Augustus, it has had
only 30 days.
Summer ends and autumn begins at the autumnal equinox, on September
22 or 23 in the northern half of the world. September is one of the
warmest months in the Southern United States. Northern states have
warm September days, but the nights get much cooler. It is also harvest
time for crops. And, in Switzerland, it's called Harvest Month.

Trivia
An orange tree may bear oranges for more than 100 years. The famous "Constable
Tree," an orange tree brought to France in 1421, lived and bore fruit for 473
years.

Holidays in September:
Labor Day is a holiday honoring working men and women. The United States,
Puerto Rico and Canada all observe the first Monday of September as Labor Day.
Australia celebrates the Eight Hour Day commemorating their successful struggle
for a shorter work day and Europe celebrates Labor Day on May 1.
The first Labor Day parade in New York City was held in September 1982. Two men
are credited with playing an important role not only in bringing about the parade
but the holiday as well. Matthew Maguire, a machinist from Paterson, N.J., and
Peter J. McGuire, a New York City carpenter, who helped found the United
Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, are said to have suggested a holiday to
honor working people in the United States. In 1887, Oregon became the first state
to make Labor Day a legal holiday, and in 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a
bill making Labor Day a national holiday.
Grandparents’ Day – September 11th -"The impetus for a National Grandparents
Day originated with Marian McQuade, a housewife in Fayette County, West
Virginia. Her primary motivation was to champion the cause of lonely elderly in
nursing homes. She also hoped to persuade grandchildren to tap the wisdom and
heritage their grandparents could provide. President Jimmy Carter, in 1978,
proclaimed that National Grandparents Day would be celebrated every year on the
first Sunday after Labor Day."
Patriot Day is an annual observance on September 11 to remember those who were
injured or died during the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11,
2001. Many Americans refer Patriot Day as 9/11 or September 11.
Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is a combined event that is annually
observed in the United States on September 17. This event commemorates the
formation and signing of the Constitution of the United States on September 17,
1787. It also recognizes all who, by coming of age or by naturalization, have become
US citizens.

STATE OF FLORIDA
Is it legal to feed birds and other wildlife?
In Florida, it is illegal to feed sandhill cranes, bears, raccoons, foxes and
alligators.
Intentionally placing food or garbage, allowing the placement of food or garbage, or
offering food or garbage in such a manner that it attracts black bears, foxes,
raccoons or sandhill cranes and thereby creates a public nuisance, is prohibited.
It’s never a good idea to feed any wildlife. Feeding animals may cause them to
concentrate on food provided by humans so they become a nuisance or a threat to
people. Feeding stations tend to be places where wildlife congregates and diseases
are readily passed among individuals. In addition, most food fed to wildlife is junk
food. Bread and other human food are generally poor substitutes for naturally
nutritious food that wildlife finds on its own. Often, the human need to offer food
is due to strong emotional attachments to animals and the desire to help wildlife.
Research has shown, however, that the consequences of feeding wildlife are far
more detrimental than helpful. About the only exception is bird feeders and
feeding stations that are maintained with the proper food items and cleaned
regularly (several times a week) with a 20-percent bleach and water solution.

VOLUNTEERS
A notice for volunteers was posted in the clubhouse and two comments were
printed on it. I would like to talk to those individuals regarding their concerns but
since they did not have the courtesy to sign their names, I cannot talk to them
individually. The comment was made that we do not let volunteers “Do it another
way” and out with the old, in with the new.
I can only speak for myself as a member of the activities committee and the LHV
Board. I have found that when someone new wants to do a new activity they are
completely in charge of running that any way they see fit. The only time the Board
gets involved is if it involves them paying out money. We long time members of the
activity committee would love to step aside but have seen no new residents step up
and say they would chair the monthly activities.
My suggestion to the people that don’t like the way things are done is to come to a
Activitiy Meeting or a LHV Board meeting and voice their concerns or volunteer.
We look forward to hearing from you in person.

A big thanks to one of our newest resident Jim Fitch for taking

Thanks to Mary Morin, Betty Pall & Arlene Plouffe for

Thanks to Carl & Mary Morin for organizing the November

These residents have stepped forward and helped with the activities in the park.
I hope the residents thank them for their hard work and volunteer to help out for
their events by working or attending the events.

A message from the HOA President:
At first I was very angry. A posting at the clubhouse by HOA secretary Tammy
Anthis, requesting more volunteer participation in activities had been defaced with
negative comments by one or more parties who were unhappy with the HOA. The
transgressors had not signed their writings.
Then I was furious. The treasurer’s report posted at the hall was defaced in red
ink. Who was this vile person who had written “No HOA meeting? Why?” across
the page?
As I thought about the comments on the treasurer’s report, I realized that is was
most likely the work of someone who was not an active HOA member. Most of the
membership knows that by tradition regular HOA membership meetings are
suspended for two or three months during summer.
Maybe this should be taken as an opportunity to invite the uninformed residents to
participate in the HOA. Boards of Director’s meetings have continued through the
summer. The board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 pm. The
meetings are open to all residents. It has been my policy to allow anyone attending
an opportunity to speak. If someone is unhappy with the board’s actions, we would
like to hear from them.
Regular membership meetings of the HOA will resume on September 13th.
We encourage all residents of Lake Hammock Village to attend. It is your chance
to be informed and to stand up and be heard. We encourage you to take this
opportunity and present your thoughts and ideas. This is your association. Take
part…be active. We want to hear your opinions, even if we disagree.
I hope no future postings are vandalized. I hope that everyone will come to the
meetings to present their thoughts. Surreptitious scribbling can accomplish
nothing.
Richard Gould
Note: I will be out of state for the September 13th meeting but I would be glad to
listen to your comments or complaints in person at your convenience.

So please help me with this new venture for the newsletter and let me know where

I have updated the restaurant book on the shelf in the clubhouse and would like to
