STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT: “Anyone who give you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward.” Mark 9:41 Does your life reflect the life of Jesus? Remember, we were made in His image. We tend to forget this. When others see you, so they see the face of Jesus? When you look at others, do you see the face of Jesus in them?
INTERCESSION FOR VOCATIONS: For the graces of clarity and active response in the discern-ment of our Heavenly Father’s will for all those considering a vocation to the priesthood or consecrated life, We pray the Lord. Lord hear our prayer.

On September 6, 2018 Living Bread Radio 88.9 FM held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel a supper and hosted Fr. Larry Richards a nationally known speaker who spoke on the topic of “How to get to Heaven.” It was a sellout evening and excellent event. This special fundraiser event to benefit the work of Living Bread Catholic Radio generated over $51,000. God’s choicest blessings upon Living Bread Ra-dio. Msgr. Michael Cariglio. On September 16, 2018 during an appreciation supper for all the volunteers, sponsors and the media for the 20th annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Festival, I am in the name of the entire parish family extremely grate-ful for the fruit of your labor. Besides the big financial help, the festival is a real “tira mi su”, meaning “[Pick me up” for family, all things Italian, true leisure and enjoyment and especially our Faith in Christ, his Church and our Blessed Mother. Msgr. Michael Cariglio.

TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
From the Rector
Dear Friends in Christ, From time to time I have been asked how to gain a Ple-nary Indulgence. In answer I borrow from the Catechism of the Catho-lic Church: An indulgence is a remission before God of the tem-poral punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of Redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury and satisfactions of Christ and the saints. An indulgence is plenary as it removes all temporal punishment due to sin. Indulgences may be applied to the living and the dead. Pope Francis has granted to Our Lady of Mt Carmel minor Basilica special days for the opportunity of a plenary indulgence by the Faithful: 1. May 13th—the day Pope Francis by decree elevat-
ed Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church to a minor ba-silica.
2. June 29th the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles.
3. July 16th Feast day of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. 4. October 7th the Feast of the Most Holy Rosary 5. December 8th, the Feast of the Immaculate Con-
ception, the day of the dedication of the basilica. 6. Once a year on a day freely chosen by each of the
Faithful. The Faithful who devoutly visit the basilica and within it participate in any sacred rite or at least recite the Lord’s prayer and the profession of faith may obtain a plenary indulgence under the usual conditions of sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion and the prayer for the intention of the Supreme Pontiff Our Holy Father Pope Francis. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio, Jr., Rector
Craig’s Corner
A Note from our Director of Music
Often times, we think of the spirit as a celebration of
Pentecost. Of course, this is true, but we can call upon the spirit
to live out our Christian call any time, since it is one of the equal
persons of the Trinity! We sing of the Holy Ghost as we open
Mass this weekend because in the first reading from the Old
Testament, we hear of the spirit coming upon the elders from
Moses. This same spirit dwells in us, and strengthens us to build
up Christ’s Church on earth today and every day. Jesus tells His
disciples today to avoid things which cause us to sin and separate
us from God: “It is better for you to enter into life crippled than
with two feet to be thrown into Gehenna.”
We must look towards God, compelled by the spirit, to
build up the Church in our day, instead of toward earthly things
that Saint James warns us of in the second reading. The Church
is not perfect. We have seen this in recent revelations but also
through Church history. However, our offertory hymn, “The
Church’s One Foundation,” recalls that though there has been
schisms and toil and tribulation in times during history, the
Church still stands today because Christ is the head of the
Church. If we look to Christ, and not to the earthly things, we too
will not lose our reward as Jesus tells the disciples in the Gospel
today. In our communion hymn, “Draw Near,” we sing a verse
which states that Christ is the judge of the nations and it is to
Him we must bow. Our closing hymn praises Christ and His
kingship. If we focus on these things, we will not have to worry
about being thrown into Gehenna. Our lives, filled with the spir-
it, should continually build up our Christian values.
If we live the words of Christ’s message today, and in
the spirit of the hymns which connect with our readings, we
build up His Church. As our psalm states, following the precepts
of the Lord should bring joy to our heart. That is living our
Christian call as we go out into the world this week.
