The U.S. Commerce Department last month blocked American firms from selling parts or providing services to ZTE. Ross explained to attendees at a National Press Club luncheon, that ZTE violated U.S. sanctions against Iran and North Korea and the Chinese telecom manufacturer agreed to pay a $1.2 billion fine. But the former bankruptcy specialist said the U.S. found out ZTE didn’t live up to the agreement. “It turned out a number of statements ZTE made to us were not accurate. Our initial thought was to impose the ‘bad list’ so the company can’t receive high tech material. That’s what led to the shutdown,” Ross said. IllinoisVillage Approves One Tower Then Drops a Moratorium On the Next OneThe Homer Glen Village Board put a 180-day moratorium on allowing permits for new cell towers last Wednesday,allowing officials to review their zoning policies, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Last month, the board approved construction of a new 150-foot Verizon tower at 17239 Parker Road, that the carriersaid will ensure reliable service in the area. Area police and fire departments voiced their desire for the site amidresident objections, as it will improve emergency coverage and decrease response time, the Tribune reported. TheVillage Board told protesting residents their hands were tied legally, to consent to the second tower.

WisconsinLaw Firm Wins One For Client and ChurchA Wisconsin state court ruled in favor of PI Tower and St. Stephen the Martyr Lutheran Church in its dispute with TheVillage of Greendale, Wisconsin. The court reversed the village’s determination to deny PI Tower’s application tobuild a monopole and construct associated antennas and ground equipment on the church.

The Greendale Board of Trustees originally denied PI Tower’s application on February 7, 2017. Representing PITower and St. Stephen as petitioners, Husch Blackwell filed an action pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 66.0404(2)(f), assertingthe board proceeded on an incorrect theory of law and acted in an arbitrary, oppressive, or unreasonable manner,among other things. Continue Reading

“Texty” 911 Emergency System Starts to Roll Out in OhioA tower-based emergency system will begin initial services in mid-June in Toledo and Lucas counties in Ohio,according to WTOL-TV. Local emergency coordinators have linked area towers to the service that will allow those inperil to text rather than phone a dispatcher.

Lucas County will be the first to offer this service funded from a 911 levy tax. County Commissioner Tina Wozniakexplained to WTOL-TV how adding a texting function can help in a life-threatening situation. "We want to create anopportunity for everyone to find ways to reach the services of 911. Some people won’t be able to verbalize what theiremergency is if it's a domestic violence situation or a terrible medical condition where they can’t talk, so they cansoon text," she said.

SQUAN Names Don Henry as General Manager of EngineeringSQUAN, announced yesterday they have appointed Don Henry as their new general managerof engineering. Don is an industry veteran with over two decades of network infrastructureexperience. He will report to SQUAN CEO Duane Albro.

In this role, Henry will be responsible for the management of SQUAN’s multi-office engineeringdivision, including P&L, business development and all operations functions. He will oversee astaff comprised of project managers, outside plant engineers, CAD drafters and supportpersonnel as defined by customer needs.

Henry has held several key leadership positions including director of dispatch operations and general manager at

FloridaGreenacres Is the Place To Be….Building TowersThe city of Greenacres authorized RG Towers, LLC of Jupiter to build a 150 foot-tall tower at 2995 S. Jog Road on a400-square-foot at the Sheriff’s Office Complex according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Terms require that RG Towers pays the city $206,115 in rent over five years of the first term, ($41,223 per year), withthe option to renew at least four times afterward. The rent will increase with subsequent five-year renewal terms to$232,208 and then to $282,517.

The resolution passed with a vote of 4-0, having decided the tower was sufficiently distant from local schools andparks, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
