INTRODUCTION Welcome to the 50th edition of my Australasian price list. Layout and composition of the 49th edition has been maintained, however there has been an extensive revision of prices especially for pre-1950 issues. While the global recession has reduced the value of many traditional investments, it may be having the opposite effect on the stamp market. Stamp collecting gives enjoyment and satisfaction to the collector. It also

provides an exciting challenge in acquiring scarce and desirable philatelic items. But unlike many hobbies it can also provide an excellent financial investment. This is an unbeatable combination. One of the best descriptions of our hobby I have read was by Stanley Phillips, Editor of Stanley Gibbons catalogues in his excellent book “Stamp Collecting” c1938 which ran to many editions. “There is one hobby which stands out above all others. It overrides the barriers of race, class and age, linking black with white and king with schoolboy. It appeals to nearly every type of mind, and is within the reach of every purse. It has… one of the largest number of followers…and the law of supply and demand had created out of nothing a stable value of hundreds of millions. While other hobbies have waxed and waned this one has gone from strength to strength. This hobby is postage stamp collecting”. SELLING? I am a serious cash buyer of worthwhile collections, accumulations and single lots. My auctions are also at your service. I have a large international mailing list 2500+, competitive vendor commissions starting at 10% and a sale rate of 90% (one of the highest in Australia). This 50th edition continues a service to collectors which began with my first edition of this list in Adelaide in 1968. Long may it continue! Robin Linke

1988 $2.50 Flat Rate Envelope 350mm x 250mm - Bicentennial Logo 10 - “Recommended maximum rate” 1kg” 10 The flat rate envelope was a very efficient concept. It allowed the user to send 1kg by air anywhere in Australia for $2.50. Today there is no airmail parcel service and there are no less than 240 different charges for 1kg surface mail (4800 different rates for 1–20kg!) not including cubing!

POSTAL STATIONERY CUT OUTS

The convenient way to collect stationery. Almost every item of postal stationery had a stamp printed in the top right corner indicating payment for postal use. The following is a list of most of these stamps as cut outs. They are scarce. Of the thousands of collections I have purchased, perhaps a dozen contained stationery cut outs. The prestigious Scott catalogue includes U.S. cut outs in their listings. This is one of the last areas of Australian Commonwealth stamp collecting not to have a defined market value. Items unpriced indicate insufficient stock although one or two copies may be available. Some items are omitted because they are seldom available. Orders over $50 deduct 10%, orders over $100 deduct 20%.
