Did you know OECU supports over 200 agencies and orga-nizations in Oklahoma? From Guymon to Idabel and every-where in between we strive to fulfill the financial needs of state employees. A good portion of this task falls to a very busy em-ployee, Jessica McConnell.

Jessica travels to agencies across Oklahoma. Not only does she talk about the benefits of OECU, she presents various financial seminars and is avail-able to answer any questions people have. “This job isn’t a 9-5 job. I get to make visits at

6 a.m. before the crews leave for the job site and other days I stop by at 6 p.m. to catch people at shift change”, ex-plains Jessica. “That’s my favor-ite part, being there for people. Plus, each day is something different.”

Jessica spends a lot of time in the car taking in the scenery, but she believes the biggest perk of her job is the food! “That’s right, Oklahoma has some of the best restaurants you never knew about and I try to discover them all” says Jes-sica.

Beware of those teaser rates! Teaser rates have always been offered to drive more business to the dealerships but, all too often, these offers are not beneficial to the buyer. Knowing what to look for, and what questions to ask the dealer, will help you decide if zero percent is the best deal for you. Here are a few of the facts and restrictions that may apply:• Almost perfect credit may be needed to qualify for these offers• You may be required to give up a manufacturer’s rebate• It could mean shorter terms and larger monthly payments• It is usually offered on a limited number of models• You may be limited to dealer stock and not be able to choose the exact vehicle you are interested in

By using OECU’s low percentage rate you are qualified to use any rebates offered by the manufac-turers— which means, this could be your best deal! With the re-bate, you are reducing the amount that you are financing.

Therefore, your overall costs may be lower than if you opted for the special factory financing. Review the chart for an example of the price savings using our low rate financing in comparison with the manufacturer’s 0% deals.

Undoubtedly you’ve heard about the “zero percent financing” offers that many auto manufacturers have promoted. Although they seem to be incredible deals and are certainly enticing, you should read the fine print and know the facts before you head to your local dealer.

William Diers is just ten years old, but he’s been through more in that short time than most of us will in a full lifetime. In May of 2007 at the age of 5, William was taken to the emergency room for what his parents thought was a case of the flu. His conditioned worsened before doctors deter-mined he had a life threatening case of bacte-rial pneumonia. At the hospital, he underwent three surgeries before his body shut down. He was on a machine for cardiac and respiratory support and in a drug-induced coma for more than a month. His family feared the worst. But one day during that hospital stay, William woke up, healthy. His frightful ordeal was over and he’s been called a “miracle” child ever since.

Now,William wants to take that miracle spirit and help others. He has set a life goal of raising one-million dollars for the Children’s Hospital Foundation, an affiliate of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Through many fund-raising efforts William says he wants to help pay hospi-tal costs for kids who can’t afford it.

He said that it only takes 1 million people to donate $1 each to reach his goal. Since there’s over 3 million people in Oklahoma, he figures that the odds are pretty good. Or, it would only take 1 person willing to donate $1 million. Either way, he figures it’s do-able. When you think about the odds he overcame to be here, any-thing William sets out to do seems reasonable. To learn more about William and his goal visit www.williamsmillion.com.

OECU is proud to be part of Credit Union for Kids who support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Last year Oklahoma credit unions raised over $153,000 for Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Located on 18 acres just east of the State Capitol Building, the Oklahoma History Center features a Smithsonian-affiliated museum dedicated to Okla-homa History and Culture and a National Archives-affiliated Research Center.

The museum contains five major exhibit galler-ies, each featuring exhibits on various aspects of Oklahoma’s exciting history. One of the special exhibits presently on display deal with the television show “Hee Haw” and the prominent role played by Oklahomans through the years in the produc-tion and performance of that popular program. Another exhibit deals with the history of automobile and truck transportation in Oklahoma.

The permanent galleries contain exhibits on a wide range of Oklahoma subjects, including American Indians, land runs and lotteries, agriculture, pio-neering innovations in broadcasting, wild-west shows, law and order, government and politics,

military matters, business and transportation, and many others.

The Research Center is nationally renowned for its extensive and varied collections of materials relat-ing to Oklahoma History. Among these holdings are 9,000,000 photographs, 33,000,000 pages of newspapers, 10,000 oral histories, and other mas-sive collections. The Research Center also has outstanding collections and access to databases that make it an outstanding facility for conducting research on family history.

Members of the Oklahoma Historical Society tour the History Center, and the society’s 30 other muse-ums and historic sites, free of charge and receive discounts at the Winnie Mae Café, the Museum Store, and the Research Center. Despite your plans to relax or spend time with family, holidays are a busy time that add even more to your schedule. That is why OECU gives you new & convenient service options to fit your schedule around holidays.

Unsolicited emails: Scammers love the holidays because they know people are on the web with their wallet open, looking for bargains. While it may be tempt-ing to click on an email link that says, “Great Deal on iPads… 50% off!” Be careful, clicking that link could take you to a compromised site that downloads malware onto your computer or phishes for your credit card credentials.

What to do: If the deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. But if you’re still tempted, place your cursor over the link (without click-ing on it) and check the URL. If you don’t recognize the URL, stay far away. Keep in mind malicious

links can also come from your closest friend whose computer has been unknowingly compro-mised.

Beware of unsecured Wi-Fi hot-spots: If you’re a holiday shopper who likes to augment online shop-ping with actual store browsing like toting your notebook along so you can do quick price com-parisons, don’t connect to an unknown or unsecure hotspot. This allows hackers to capture any and all data that’s flowing to and from the hotspot, enabling them to intercept logins and passwords.

What to do: If you feel the urge to jump online while you’re out, go

to a familiar location that offers a secure Wi-Fi connection. Remem-ber that phishing attacks can happen whether you’re on your laptop, tablet or smart phone.

TIPSFORSMARTHOLIDAYSHOPPINGWith the holiday shopping season just around the corner and more than 55% of web users planning to do their holiday shopping online, here are a few important online shopping safety tips that could prevent your computer from becoming infected and your financial information from being stolen.
