North Carolina A&T ended their 2018 regular season on a tear. The Aggies fi nished strong 4-0 streak to cap o a 9-2 season. They fi nished 1st in the MEAC. Running back Marquell Cartwright ran for 110 yards and two touchdowns in NCAT’s 45-0 win over North Carolina Central in the fi nal game of the season. Alcorn State makes its way to the Celebration Bowl after a 9-3 fi nish in the FCS Southwestern Athletic Conference. They’ve won their last two and four of their last fi ve games.
North Texas’ Mason Fine had a fi ne year at quarterback for the Mean Green. Fine concluded the season as the nation’s 8th leading passer. The 5’11” junior threw for 3,734 yards and 27 touchdowns to just 5 interceptions. UNT fi nished on a two-win streak for a 9-3 regular season. Utah State will look quarterback Jordan Love to keep this high-scoring o ense going in the New Mexico Bowl. Love threw for 3,208 yards and 28 touchdowns this season. These teams will light up the scoreboard on December 15th.
Louisiana-Lafayette got o to a rocky start in 2018. After winning their fi rst game, they lost the next three. The end of their season was the exact opposite. Louisiana-Lafayette won three straight before coming up short in the Sun Belt Conference Championship in a 30-19 loss to Appalachian State. Running backs Trey Ragas and Elijah Mitchell combined for 1,906 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on the season. Tulane fi nished with a 6-6 SU and 5-7 ATS record. Their last bowl appearance was a 24-21 loss to ULL.

Fresno State needed overtime, but they overcame #19 Boise State in the Mountain West Conference title game. Fresno State won 19-16 o of a 1-yard run from running back Ronnie Rivers. Rivers is Fresno State’s leading rusher with just 468 yards and rushing touchdowns. The Bulldogs enter the Las Vegas Bowl on a three-game winning streak. Arizona State was last seen rallying from a 19-point defi cit against Arizona. They head to the Las Vegas Bowl with momentum on their side as they’ve won four of their last four games.
After losing two straight games to Louisiana-Monroe and Troy, Georgia Southern closed out the season with road wins over Coastal Carolina and Georgia State. The Eagles fi nished third in the Sun Belt with a 6-2 conference record. They were 9-3 overall. Georgia Southern fi nished 1-1 against ranked teams this season after losing to #2 Clemson and beating #25 Appalachian State. Eastern Michigan rattled o three straight wins to end their season. All three of those games hit the Under. The Eagles lost their last bowl game 24-20 to Old Dominion.
Appalachian State knocked o four straight opponents before taking down Louisiana-Lafayette to win the Sun Belt Conference Championship. In their fi ve-game streak, the Mountaineers have limited teams to an average of just 12 points per game. Appalachian State is 3-0 in bowl games since making their fi rst bowl appearance in 2015. MTSU has won four of their last fi ve games against the spread. They look to bounce back after losing a 27-25 heartbreaker to UAB in the C-USA title game. They’ll look to QB Brent Stockstill to get it done.

Just four years after cutting the football program from their budget, UAB defeated Middle Tennessee State to win the Conference USA championship. UAB looks to do something else they’ve never done: win a bowl game. The Blazers are 0-2 SU and ATS in bowl games. They lost to 41-6 to Ohio in 2017. Northern Illinois is coming o a 30-29 win over Bu alo in the Mid-American Conference title game. They look to break a 5-bowl game losing streak in the Boca Raton Bowl.
Ohio went 8-4 this season after putting forth a strong 5-1 fi nish in their last six games. The Bobcats are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games. They’re headed to the Boca Raton Bowl with momentum on their side. San Diego State has been headed in the wrong direction. After a 7-2 start, the Aztecs lost their fi nal three games of the season. They botched a 2-point conversion against HawaII in the fi nal game of the season where they lost 31-30.
Marshall allowed just 142 points versus C-USA opponents all season. Marshall has won fi ve of their last seven games heading into the Gasparilla Bowl. They lost their fi nal game of the season 41-20 to Virginia Tech. Thundering Herd is a fi tting name for Marshall as they’ve ran through almost every postseason opponent. They’ve 16-3 straight up and 14-5 against the spread in bowl games since ‘97. They’re riding a six-game winning streak. USF will have their hands full as they try to snap a 5-game losing streak.

Florida International improved on last year’s 8-4 record to fi nished 9-3 with a 6-2 fi nish in the CUSA. The Golden Panthers rewarded backers handsomely this season as they also went 9-3 against the spread. Their last bowl game was a 28-3 loss to Temple in the 2017 Gasparilla Bowl. Toledo had a disappointing 7-5 season, though they capped o their season with big back-to-back wins over Kent State and CMU. They lost handily to Appalachian State in last year’s Dollar General Bowl. Look for FIU quarterback James Morgan to be the di erence maker here. He fi nished 2018 with 2,727 yards and 26 touchdowns.
2018 was a step in the right direction for BYU. They improved on last year’s 4-9 record to fi nish 6-6. The o ense score 305 points compared to 222 in 2017. While they didn’t have a winning season, they certainly improved as a team. They hope to win their second straight bowl game on December 21st against Western Michigan. WMU fi nished with a winning record, but was outscored 398-400 this season. That led to a 3-8 ATS record in the regular season.

Wake forest became bowl-eligible after putting a hurting on Duke in a 59-7 win in their last game of the regular season. The Demon Deacons evened out to a 6-6 fi nish, however the win over Duke, who was 7-4 going into the game is a bright spot for Wake Forest. Greg Dortch led the team with 89 catches and 1,078 receiving yards for eight touchdowns. Memphis scored points in abundance this season. They led AAC teams with 567 points scored. They’re hoping to end a 3-game postseason skid.
The Houston Cougars have come up short in their last two bowl appearances. Winning the Armed Forces Bowl just got a bit tougher after defensive tacker Ed Oliver decided to skip the postseason in favor of preparing for the NFL Draft. Following their 52-31 loss to Memphis in the AAC title game, Memphis fi red defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio. The Cougars defense allowed 36+ points in fi ve of their last six games. Army is on a 3-game losing streak versus Houston. They’ve won their last three bowl games.

LOUISIANA TECH - RESULTS
Troy closed out the season the same way they started it: with a loss. The Trojans’ 21-10 loss at the hands of Appalachian State cost them the Sun Belt Conference title. They fi nished 9-3, losing to the only ranked team they faced all season, a 56-20 loss to Boise State in opening week. Their 7-3-2 record against the spread should have made backers a pretty penny. Bu alo looks to bounce back from a heartbreaking 30-29 loss to Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship game. They fi nished the season 10-3.
Louisiana Tech saw solid play from receiver Adrian Hardy in the 2018 regular season. He ranked second in the CUSA with 1,052 receiving yards. Quarterback J’Mar Smith fi nished third in the conference with 2,875 passing yards. His 14 touchdowns and 9 interceptions left a lot to be desired. Smith was sacked 29 times in the regular season. BOSTON COLLEGE - RESULTS
GEORGIA TECH - RESULTS
Boise State has made college football bettors good money in the postseason. In the last 10 years, the Broncos are 8-2 straight up and 7-3 against the spread in bowl appearances. They’ll look to continue building on that success. Their last fi ve games, including their 19-16 loss to Fresno State in the Mountain West Championship game, all hit the Under. Boston College rushes to the First Responder Bowl on a three-game losing streak where they averaged just 16.3 points per game. They’ve failed to cover in their last three games.
At a fi rst glance, Georgia Tech’s stat line for the season looks wrong. Records show that GT threw the ball jus 114 times this season. That’s got to be wrong, right? Wrong. The Yellow Jackets ran the ball a mind-blowing 701 times for 4,019 rushing yards. They scored 45 rushing touchdowns and averaged 334.9 yards per game on the ground. Eighteen di erent players recorded a carry for the Yellow Jackets. Minnesota allowed 170.7 rushing yards per game (76th) this season. They fi nished the season just 3-6 SU.

Just days after their season concluded, Miami su ered another loss. Four-star recruit Max Johnson announced that he’ll be signing with LSU over Miami. The Hurricanes were looking forward to welcoming Mark Richt’s nephew to help boost a quarterback crew that lacked fi repower. Miami’s 24-3 win over 24th ranked Pittsburgh was their most important win of the season. The Canes are 1-7 straight up in their last 8 bowl appearances. Wisconsin expected an easy win when they hosted Minnesota in their annual rivalry game. Instead, they were blown out 37-15 and lost to the Golden Gophers for the fi rst time in 15 games.
Baylor won back-to-back bowl games in ‘15 and ‘16 before missing the cut in 2017. They’re heading to the Texas Bowl on a 2-4 stretch in their last six games. Their last four game have all gone Under. The Bears became bowl-eligible following a 35-24 win over Texas Tech in their fi nal game of the season. Quarterback Charlie Brewer passed for 2,635 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2018. After failing to cover in four straight games, Vanderbilt rewarded faithfuls handsomely as they closed out the season on a 5-game winning streak against the spread. Four of those fi ve games, including the last three, all hit the Under.

Washington State was an incredible team to back this year. They fi nished 10-2 straight up and against the spread. The Cougars’ lost both game by a combined 16 points. They posted a +183 point di erential for the season. Washington State fi nished 2-1 versus ranked teams, picking up wins over #12 Oregon and #24 Stanford, but losing to #16 Washington. Iowa State has been a disappointed bet in the last quarter of the season. After starting the season 6-2 against the spread, they failed to cover in their last four games. The Cyclones have been an unreliable team in the postseason. Consistency is found in their Over/Unders. The Under has his in seven of their last nine bowl games, including the last four.
Florida ended their season with a three-game win streak. UF scored quality wins over ranked Mississippi State and LSU on their way to a 9-3 season. Florida is 10-4 straight up and ATS in the postseason since 2006. Michigan’s regular season came to a devastating halt after once again losing to bitter rival Ohio State. Michigan had never before surrendered over 50 points to Ohio State before. The Wolverines fi nished 10-2 on the season. They lost their season opener 24-17 to #12 Notre Dame and the closer 62-39 to Ohio State. It will be interesting to see how they bounce back in their fi rst game since the big loss.

Virginia played tough football all season. They fi nished with an overall record of 7-5. While they won 6-1 at home, they won just one of four games on the road. Even when they lost, Virginia fought hard. The Cavaliers lost their fi ve games by an average of 8.5 points. They lost by four or fewer points three times this season. The UVA defense allowed just 21.5 points per game this season. South Carolina fi nished their season just 3-2 straight up, but they covered the spread in four of those fi ve games. They also hit the Over in those same four games.
After going 6-2 in the Sun Belt conference in 2017, their conference play must have been a disappointment for Arkansas State this season. The Red Wolves fi nished just 5-3 in the conference. What backers should be excited about is the team’s performance to close out the season. AR State won their last four games while covering the spread each time. They held opponents to just 13.5 points per game in that stretch. Nevada went 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the Mountain West Conference. Seven games went Under this season for the Wolf Pack. Seven of their last 10 bowl games have also gone Under.

Michigan State was one of the worst o ensive teams in all of college football in 2018. They scored just 237 points all season. Their 155 points scored was a Big Ten-worst. The Spartans 216 points against, however led all Big Ten defenses. Michigan State was a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks. They picked recorded 14 interceptions and 25 sacks. That shouldn’t be a problem for Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert, who threw only 8 interceptions this season. Herbert passed for 2,985 yards and 28 touchdowns, however he’ll need to complete more than 60% of his passes to be e ective against Michigan State.
Virginia Tech heads to the Military Bowl after a disappointing 6-6 season where they were outscored 357-368. VT was a solid 5-1 at home, but struggled mightily on the road, where they fi nished 2-3. The Hokies are a conundrum for bowl season bettors. In 25 bowl appearances, they’re an even 12-12-1 against the spread and 13-12 straight up. The only positive note for VT is that they won their last two games. Cincinnati’s only issue is that they play in the same conference as UCF. The Bearcats fi nished 10-2 this season. They aim to win their fi rst bowl games since 2012. They’ve lost three straight.

Missouri was on the brink of a potentially disastrous season before railing o consecutive wins over #11 Florida, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Arkansas to fi nish 8-4. They covered the spread in three of those four games. The Tigers are 3-1 straight up and against the spread in their last four bowl appearances. Oklahoma State was e ective on one side of the ball this season. They scored 461 points. The Cowboys’ defense, however allowed 389 points per game, second-worst in the Big 12. Oklahoma State averaged 43.5 points per game and fi nished 2-2 against ranked opponents in 2018. They’re looking to win their third straight bowl game.
Utah’s leading receiver, Britain Covey, su ered a severe knee injury on the opening kicko of the Utes’ 10-3 Pac-12 Championship Game loss to Washington. The Utes are 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS in their last fi ve bowl appearances. Ohio State proved too much for Northwestern in the Big Ten Conference Championship game. The Wildcats fell 45-24 to the #6 ranked Buckeyes after winning the Big Ten West. Northwestern fi nished the season 8-5 straight up and 6-6-1 against the spread. They have their eyes set on their third straight bowl victory. They’re 3-1 straight up in their last four bowl appearances.

The Aggies are also 4-8 straight up and against the spread in their last 12 bowl appearances. North Carolina State is riding a three-game winning streak after beating the brakes o Eastern Carolina to the tune of 58-3. Quarterback Ryan Finley ranked 7th in the nation with 3,789 passing yards. The 6’4” senior threw for 24 touchdowns and completed 68% of his passes. NC State’s last six bowl games all hit the Over.
Pittsburgh was a respectable 7-4 before being outscored 64-13 in their fi nal two games of the season. The Panthers lost 24-3 versus Miami (FL) before being mauled 42-10 by the Clemson TIgers. Outside of running backs Qadree Ollison and Darrin Hall, Pittsburgh didn’t get much o ensive production out of any other player this year. The two backs combined for 2,211 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns. Stanford is riding a three-game winning streak into the Hyundai Sun Bowl. The Cardinal defeated Oregon State, UCLA, and Cal to fi nish 8-4. They’re 3-1 against the spread in their last four games.

Mississippi State was last seen throwing hands to bitter rival Mississippi in this year’s Egg Bowl. The Bulldogs would go on to win that game 35-3 to cap o a defensive beauty of the season. The Mississippi State defense allowed an NCAA-best 12 points per game. They restricted seven teams to 10 points or less this season. Iowa played great defense themselves. The Hawkeyes limited teams to just 17 points per game, the fewest of all Big Ten teams. Iowa will be without tight end Noah Fant, who declared for the NFL Draft. Fant led the Hawkeyes with seven receiving touchdowns. This should be a great defensive showdown.
Kentucky quarterback Terry Wilson tallied 340 yards and four touchdowns in their 56-10 win over rival Louisville in their fi nal game of the season. The Wildcats fi nished 9-3 overall. Their 146 points scored were second-worst in the SEC. UK has lost their last four bowl games. Penn State kicked o their season with a loss against the spread before railing o four straight covers. Since then, they’re just 3-4 against the spread. Running back Miles Sanders was a star on this Penn State o ense. He ran for 1,223 yards and 9 touchdowns while averaging 5.9 yards per carry for the Nittany Lions.

It took seven overtimes and 146 points to determine the winner of LSU vs Texas A&M. The Tigers lost 74-72 to Texas A&M. They closed out their season with a loss and a 9-3 record, which was good enough for second in the SEC West. The UCF Knights fi nished their second straight undefeated season. Their last loss was on December 2016 against Arkansas State. Over the last two seasons, UCF has been a terrifi c team to back. They’re a perfect 25-0 and 16-7-1 against the spread in those games. UCF will be without star quarterback McKenzie Milton after losing injuring his right knee in versus USF last month.
Ohio State capped o a 12-1 season with a 45-24 win over Northwestern and a Big Ten Conference title. Their biggest game of the season was a 62-39 victory over Michigan. That propelled Ohio State into the College Football Playo conversation, but it was too little too late. Washington won four straight games to cap of a solid regular season. They defeated #17 Utah in a 10-3 game to capture the Pac-12 title. Despite having the best record in the Pac-12, they were one of the lowest scoring teams in the conference. They fi nished just 4-9 against the spread in 2018.

Oklahoma was a nightmare for opposing defenses in 2018. They scored 643 points in the season, making them the only team along with Alabama to eclipse the 600 point mark. Oklahoma’s lone loss was a 48-45 nail-biter to the #19 ranked Texas Longhorns. For a team that averaged almost 50 points per game, they had several close calls throughout the season. That’ll happen when you give up 32 points per game. The Sooners fi nished 12-1 SU and 5-7-1 against the spread. Alabama backup quarterback Jalen Hurts came up big when the team needed him most. Alabama found themselves down by a touchdown when Hurts came o the bench to replace the injured Tua Tagovailoa. Hurts led the Crimson Tide to a come-from-behind win over the Georgia Bulldogs with one passing and one receiving touchdown. Jalen Hurts led Alabama to the national title game as a freshman in 2017 before losing the starting gig to this year’s leading Heisman candidate, Tagovailoa. Before going down, Tagovailoa broke Alabama’s all-time touchdown record with 37 touchdowns. He’ll be good-to-go for Alabama’s fi fth straight College Football Playo appearance.

CLEMSON RESULTS
Notre Dame fi nished the regular season with an unbeaten record of 12-0. The defense Fighting Irish was one of the stingiest in all of college football. Notre Dame allowed just 17.3 points per game (11th in the NCAA). Teams struggled moving the ball against the NDU. They allowed just 332 yards per game (23rd). On o ense, quarterback Ian Book passed for 2,468 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. Clemson returns to the College Football Playo for the third time since 2015. They reached the CFP National Title Game in 2015 and 2015, winning the latter. This Tigers’ team may be unlike any Clemson team we’ve ever seen. The Tigers ran the table to fi nish 13-0 and score their fourth straight ACC championship. The 2018 Clemson Tigers scored 590 points in the process, the most in the school’s history. They dominated teams week in and week out, winning by almost 32 points per game. Running back Travis Etienne ran for 1,463 yards and 21 touchdowns, ranking him in the top fi ve in both categories.

The 2019 College Football Playo National Championship will be played in Santa Clara, California at Levi’s Stadium on Monday, January 7th. The championship teams will be determined by the winners of #3 Notre Dame versus #2 Clemson in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl and #4 Oklahoma versus #1 Alabama in the Capital One Orange Bowl on December 29th.
Clemson and Alabama are the only two undefeated teams in the College Football Playo . They’ve been on a collision course all year. Alabama is ranked second in points scored (behind Oklahoma). Clemson is ranked 3rd in the same category. Clemson is ranked 2nd in points allowed per game (behind Mississippi State). Alabama is ranked 4th in the same category.
The last time these teams faced each other, Alabama defeated Clemson 24-6 in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day 2018. Alabama is 3-1 straight up versus Clemson since 2008. Clemson’s last win over the Crimson Tide was in the 2017 College Football Playo National Title Game. Expect these two teams to meet again.
