Continuing to support
Tuturumuri School
Week 6, Term 4, 2016 From the Principal’s Chair Kia ora tena koutou katoa Welcome to our second to last newsletter for the school year. I don’t know where the term is go-ing and it is certainly a busy one with lots happening. What a mixed bag of weather we have had including flooding, earthquakes and tsuanami warnings. Mother Nature is not always kind to us. Our thoughts go to Kaikoura and surrounding areas worst affected by the earthquake (s) and it is great to see that help and support has been sent their way. The school remained open on the day of the flooding and on Monday, the day after the big earth-quake. I am still stunned that some people in the district slept through it and the following after-shocks. It is a reminder to check and earthquake proof our homes. The students have enthusiastically been researching more countries and their traditions as part of Christmas Around the World. They will be beginning work on the end of year concert from next week including learning Christmas Carols to entertain you all. End of Year Reports are currently being written and will be sent home at the end of Week 9 along with updated Learning Profiles. Reading Together workshop number 3 took place at school on Wednesday, 9th November and the final workshop and celebration will be held on 30th November for all parents and children in-volved beginning at the Martinborough Library from 3.30pm. Thank you to the Cutfield family for coming in to mow the lawns, and weed eating around the school. We appreciate you giving up your time to do this. The cluster athletics held in Featherston a fortnight ago was very successful, despite the freez-ing, Featherston wind. All the students performed to the best of their ability and I was very proud as they represented the school well in all of their events. The scheduled outside Working Bee at the school for last Saturday was postponed due to weath-er. We are hoping that this will take place this Saturday, 19th from 10—3pm. At his stage the weather is looking fine so we are hoping for a great turnout. Fingers crossed the weather contin-ues to improve and we start to see the sun more again in less shaky times. Enjoy the next few weeks.

STUDENT VOICE
On Monday, Flyn, George and I went to Athletics in
Masterton. Flyn jumped 3metres and 22 centime-
tres. George came second in the 1000 metres. I
came 6th in the high jump. I also came fourth in
the vortex. George gets to go to the Regional
Champs in Wellington at the end of the month.

The Hunt Last night, Cole and I went for a hunt. We left at half past six. When we got up to the Rocky Knob, we got the gun, binoculars, jackets and a torch. We walked to where we cannot get the bike. We sat there for two hours but nothing came out. While we were walking back to the bike, Cole saw two pigs far away down the back of our place. So we drove to where the pigs could not hear us and Cole got the gun and walked to them. But I had to wait by the bike until he whistled so I did not get shot, mistaken for a pig or deer. He whistled and I rode the bike to where he was. He got two pigs. One was a boar and the other was a sow. We gutted them at our Pig dump. I gutted the sow. Then we put them in the chiller and had dinner. We went to bed, ex-hausted, at 10:30 By Flyn, Yr 6
