CommunityConversation 2013
Own your community’s health.
the Wolf river Area Healthcare Foundation’s new leaders are looking forward to taking it to the next level as a supporter of the New London Family Medical Center campus and local health and wellness initiatives.
Last spring, Heather Grimes joined the foundation as its new executive director and hit the ground running, meeting with community members and healthcare leaders to understand local needs. originally from Greenville, Grimes previously served as the senior director of development at the Boys and Girls Club of Green Bay and executive director for the Boys and Girls Club in Janesville.
Grimes strongly supports the foundation’s mission to help New London Family Medical Center acquire state-of-the-art facilities and equipment so people can receive more healthcare locally.
in addition to Grimes, the foundation’s office has another new face: Cristy Borchardt. As the foundation’s new part-time development assistant, she helps support annual event planning and maintain donor relations. Borchardt lives in Kaukauna and previously worked in the development office for Bellin College in Green Bay.
the foundation’s board of directors also has a new president. After many years of dedicated service, Harry radix retired and Dr. Kerry Griebenow was elected to take his place. A New London native, Griebenow returned home to open an optometry clinic in 1979. He served on the New London Family Medical Center Board of directors for nine years, including three years as board chairman. Less than a year later, he was then recruited to join the Wolf river Area Healthcare Foundation Board of directors.
Griebenow is passionate about the foundation’s mission: improving local healthcare offerings to local residents.
“We are constantly striving to improve our local health care. the foundation is in place to do exactly that in the greater New London area,” he says, pointing to the Birth Center and Chemo treatment Suite. “Without the financial support of the foundation, it’s likely that neither project would have come to fruition. We have many ideas for new projects that will further improve the care for those seeking service at NLFMC, and our thinking never ends.”
the success of the Wolf river Area Healthcare Foundation depends on your vision and generosity. including the Foundation in your gift plans will ensure we are able to provide outstanding care to area residents for future generations.
Planned giving options – including bequests, life insurance policies, irA’s and other life income gifts – allow you to provide significant support to the Foundation while offering financial and tax benefits for you and your family.
in addition, by making a planned gift, you automatically become a member of our promise Circle, the honorary society that recognizes the generosity and foresight of those who have made provisions
in their estate plans to support our patients and their loved ones. Promise Circle members receive special recognition and invitationsto events throughout the year.
to learn more about our many planned giving options, and how you can become a member of the promise Circle, please contact Heather Grimes at (920) 531-2221 or via e-mail [email protected].

Third AnnualSturgeon Run a Big Success!
More than 500 walkers and runners joined together to raise more than $20,000 at the third annual Wolf river Sturgeon run.
Held last spring, the event raises funds for the Wolf river Area Healthcare Foundation, which supports the New London Family Medical Center campus and the communities it serves through outreach health and wellness programs.
runners and walkers chose from either a 5 mile or 2 mile run and walk along the Sturgeon trail where participants caught a glimpse of the famous sturgeon doing their own run.
Planning is already underway for the fourth annual run next spring. A special thank you goes out to all of the volunteers – and the participants – who made the event possible.
Healthcare is changing and New London Family Medical Center is changing right with it.
Last fall, a new outpatient unit opened at the hospital featuring five private rooms, including three with private bathrooms. the Wolf river Area Healthcare Foundation helped fund the unit’s construction in remodeled space on the hospital’s second floor with the proceeds from last year’s Annual dinner.
the new space was designed with input from New London Family Medical Center patients and provides a calm, warm, and inviting
atmosphere. it also brings all of the outpatients together in one location so staff members don’t have to move from room to room in different parts of the hospital since they are offered care in any available room.
in recent years, the number of outpatient visits to the hospital has increased from less than 1,000 in 2009 to more than 2,500 in 2012. Previously, patients receiving care for outpatient procedures including infusion therapy, wound care, injection/port blood draw and more in either the medical or surgical units.
NOW, a Click a Day...
it’s no secret healthcare is changing and thedaCare is changing right with it. Patients want more control over their healthcare and want to use technology to do just that.
mythedaCare, a popular online portal that allows patients to communicate with doctors and check their test results and health history, is going that next step and providing patients with more access and interaction with their doctors and medical providers. Proceeds from the 10th annual Wolf River area Healthcare foundation annual Dinner Gala on September 17th will be used to help fund the rollout of MythedaCare enhancements in the New London area.
“research tells us that personalized care with continued interactions will improve overall patient health and that’s why making these changes to MythedaCare are so important,” says Cheryl Seelig, practice administrator at thedaCare Physicians-New London. “A patient will have the ability to see multiple plans of cares from all the doctors they interact with and be able to help communicate with their healthcare team.”
disease management tools will be built right in to MythedaCare, Seelig says. For example, a patient
with diabetes could enter her dailyblood sugar levels right intoMythedaCare so the medical staffworking with her can monitor them.
“MythedaCare might send you areminder to enter your blood sugars onyour smart phone or your computer. theblood sugars are then sent to your healthcare team and they send you a message on how to adjust your medications,” she says. “Patients are engaged which leads to a healthier population and decreased overall healthcare costs.”
thedaCare is a national leader in incorporating technology and patient health and has been namedamong the nation’s Most Wired health systems byHospitals & Health Networks magazine, the journalof the American Hospital Association, for the past 12years. Seelig says the latest updates to MythedaCareshow the health system remains committed to using technology to improve patient care.
“the foundation’s support will allow us to bringthese technology improvements to the New London area and improve the community’s overall healthby engaging more patients in their healthcare,”she says.
