Q: What are the requirements to participate?

A: Eligibility requirements include: Letter of Recommendation, copy of passport, copy of transcript, resume/CV, proof of university affiliation or company support (if applicable), and a Letter of Financial Support. Proof of English proficiency is also required (TOEFL score is preferred but other approved English proficiency assessments will be accepted). Certain eligibility requirements may apply if you have previously been in the United States on a J-1 visa. Please visit the GET website for more information.

Q: What is the total cost for a GET opportunity and what does this cost include?

A: Total costs vary for each GET opportunity. An average four- to six-week opportunity may range from $4,500 – $6,000. Each cost includes housing, meals, tuition or program fee for participation, J-1 visa sponsorship and monitoring, and J-1 visa compliant insurance. The I-901 SEVIS fee, or other J-1 visa related costs, and personal expenses are not included and will be

Q: In what fields of study are opportunities offered and for how long should I plan to be in the U.S.?

A: GET primarily focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields and may also include social sciences, communications, political science, and business. Opportunities can range from four to 16 weeks.

Q: Will I be provided with visa sponsorship?

A: If you are selected for an opportunity, IIE will act as your J-1 visa sponsor. IIE will also ensure that all GET participants are provided with J-1 visa compliant health insurance.

Q: Where will I live while I am in the United States?

A: Housing arrangements can be made through the opportunity host and are circumstantial. Details will be available after registration.
