Strong Leadership, Governance

• A proven education leader as state superintendent of public instruction

• An aligned state education governance structure, from pre-school through grad school

Stable and Adequate Funding

• Stable and adequate funding, sufficient for schools to:– Provide high-quality education for students to

meet high standards

– Offer additional instruction for students who need it

– Ensure a full school year

• In turn, schools must achieve return on investment

Parents, Communities as Partners

• Educating the next generation is everyone’s responsibility:– Parents– Teachers– Students– Superintendents

and Principals– School classified employees– Governor and Legislature– Community members

Where We Go From Here

• Higher standards adopted by State Board

• P-20 ‘Oregon Education Investment Team’ established by Governor

• Governor, legislature considering change in state superintendent selection process

• Legislature considering bills to support effective teaching: performance evaluation, mentoring

• Governor, legislature debating declining education budget
