THE NEED

● Charity Mission Needs Are Growing:

- All Human Services charities report significant needs growth

- Record number of Americans on food stamps

- 1 in 6 adults and 1 in 4 children are food insecure

- Animal Shelters/Rescues – people who can’t afford food, can’t afford pets

● None Of This Is Likely To Change In The Foreseeable Future:

- High ongoing unemployment rate

- Slow economic growth

THE PROBLEMS

● Shrinking Support - Charities are funded from three sources

- All three sources are under duress

- Increased need for charity at a time when charity support is dropping

- None of this is likely to change in the foreseeable future

● Inefficiency - Guidestar – ratings agency for Non-Profits – most get poor marks

- NPO sector slow adoption of best practices - Reactive, crisis management

● Lack Of Transparency - Institutional trust has waned – too many scandals

- People want to know what is happening with their money - Donate less - Don’t donate at all
