Leagues are structured to allow for both practice and game experiences in the same day. Participants will learn new skills for 30 minutes and put those skills in action for a short 25-30 minute game after the practice session. All players will receive a YMCA reversible style jersey and will be assigned a different color each week. (Home Team wears “Red”). All players will receive a participation medal.

YMCA ROOKIES IS DESIGNED FOR THE BEGINNER WHO WANTS TO EXPERIENCE YOUTH SPORTS ONCE A WEEK.

GAME ON! THE YMCA ROOKIE PLUS+ PROGRAM FOCUSES ON SKILL DEVELOPMENT, FUN, AND A SENSE OF TEAM IN A SEMI-COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT.

AGES 6 - 14

Rookie Plus+ players will receive a uniform package different for each sport. Season will consist of 7 to 8 practices, 6 games and a guaranteed 2 game season end tournament for each age group. Scores and standings will be kept. Our rules have been adjusted to ensure better parity and limit the ability of a team to “run up the score”. Players will be ensured to play ½ half of each game. Coaches have the ability sub any player in the last 5 minutes of each game. All players will receive a participation medal.

WHY THE CHANGE?For years, parents and players alike have been asking for the YMCA to provide the next level of play while still holding true to its foundational values of Honesty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility and Faith. We believe that adding some aspects of competition will help enhance your players love of the game and build lifelong skills in the process.

TOURNAMENT PLAYTournament play provides an opportunity to experience competition in a controlled atmosphere. Teams will be matched a close as possible to create parity with in the tournament. Example: If a league has 8 teams, we will split the League in half and run separate brackets for the each. Tournament winners will receive a YMCA “League Champions” t-shirt. Competition rules have been put in place so no team can be embarrassed by another team. Some games may be played on a Sunday if necessary.

SOME TRAVEL NECESSARYTravel may be necessary in these leagues depending on registration. Travel for games only will stay within the Williamson County area. (Round Rock, Cedar Park, Hutto). Availability of field and or gym space will determine number of home games each season.

TEAM FORMATIONMany factors are involved when forming YMCA youth sports teams. Player/coach requests, time, day and years of experience all play a part in team formation. The YMCA will make every effort to honor requests. Parents will be notified immediately if the request cannot be granted. Requests will only be accepted until the first “pay by” deadline.

Teams will be grouped by age: 6U (age 5&6), 8U (age 7&8), 10U (age 9&10), 12U (age 11&12), 14U (age 13&14)

Depending on location and sport, teams may be co-ed. Please see specific branch before registering. Some age groups may be combined or changed due to registration. Parents will be contacted via email after the first deadline if a change has been made.

Younger players may play up if parent is head coach or if coach request is made for the specific player.
