Critic: Karla Rothstein,GSAPP, Columbia University

Site Location: The Old Croton Aqueduct,New York, US.

Project Program: Cemetery, Chapel, Bridge,Park, Egress Space.

Program Used: Rhinoceros, 3D Studio Max, Autocad, Adobe Photoshop and Illustator.

The old Croton aqueduct has been decommis-sioned for over a century. Existing NYC cemeteries will reach capacity in the next 20 years. Forgotten underground tunnels provide space for an urban archive of human remains. Light counteracts the underground darkness in an archive that shifts and fills across centuries.

Water bears significant meaning in ritual and reli-gious beliefs—its varied qualities offer comfort and emotional resonance.

As a byproduct of resomation. Returning sacred wa-ter to the aqueduct symbolizes infinite connection with past generations.

The flow of time heals loss; the flow of water aids in letting go.

Responding to contextual circumstance, the archive is zoned for different stages of mourning. Immer-sion in the tunnel is an intimate experience with family. Emergence is a moment of release.

Site Location: Wastewater Treatment 145St, New York, US.

Project Program: Factory, Artificial Islands , Park

Program Used: Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, 3D Studio Max, Autocad, CNC, Adobe Photoshop and Illustator.

The priority of this design is to transformthe conceptions of urban waterfront toinclude an emphasis on soft infrastructure, robust marine habitat, and new forms ofprogramming and enegy.

The design strategy of this project is toreuse the by-product from Wastewater treatmentplant and the dredge soil from thebottom of the river. We can produce newtypes of landscape units by combining thesetwo types of soil.

There are four types of island that made bysludge and dredge, the first one is softshoreline which locted along the waterfront, the second one is floating island whichdesign for water filtration, the third oneis mollusk farming which provides differentkinds of mollusk habitation that increasesthe diversity of animals and plants in theriver, and the fourth one is fixed islandwhich is a new landform that can be transformthrough time.

Critic: Kuo-Chang Liu,National Cheng Kung Univesity, Taiwan

Site Location: Flooded Area, Tainan, Taiwan

Project Program: Farmer’s Market, Flooded Infrastructure, Park

Program Used: Rhinoceros, 3D Studio Max, Autocad, Adobe Photoshop and Illustator.

A multifunctional building contains market spaces and emergency equipment that can be operated while it floods. The program of the building can be changed to suit different situations.

This project is located in Tainan, Taiwan. This area has been flooded many times. There are five old houses remain in the site.

The design strategy of this project derives from a proverb. To decode the proverb and make use to the site.

After considering the identification of the problems of the site that there are tombs in the south mountain and the water level is about +10M in the east. The site will become a concave area and the backwater will not be drainage through the new river. We need to provide a storing reservoir by constructing the old river and the site that could become a new status with new water level. The new building could be seen as a hybrid concept of a market and an new kind of urban infrastructure.

Group: Straightsquare Design,Project Designer

Site Location: Taichung City, Taiwan

Project Program: Cloud Computing Tower, Observatory , Plaza, Park

Program Used: Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, 3D Studio Max, Autocad, Adobe Photo-shop and Illustator.

The priority of this assignment attempts to create Taiwan Tower in two directions:1.To discover new function of Taiwan Tower.2.To unveil the essence of Taiwan.

The specific site is surrounded by multilateral edges of the central park, cultural districts, aca-demic corridors, and commercial areas. For years, Taichung city has expanded as more and more outer rings were formed. And the Taiwan Tower is currently situated at the 4rd ring.

The design strategy of this project approaches

the design of Taiwan Tower with selecting a

few iconic Taiwanese to discover the ultimate

spirit of Taiwan. This approach not only helps

define the material, shape, and structure of

Taiwan Tower, but also how the Tower is elevat-

ed. Of which the Taiwan Tower is characterized:

suppleness and stiff, diverse and dynamics,

persistence and unswerving determination.

Project Program: Public Toilet

Program Used: Rhinoceros, 3D Studio Max, Autocad, Adobe Photoshop, Illustator andConstruction supervisor.

The execution of this project is based on two major considerations: 1. The primary of the project is intended to create connections between nature and artifact. We try to build a public open space between the nature sceneries and the bike ways. 2. The design task is to build a toilet facility with a recreation area for the tourists and local inhab-itants. Because the project has many characteristics, with crossed

overlapped, and various functional spaces. We use the bearing wall system to maximize interior space and use wood beams to lighten the weight of the roof. It is based on the specific concern that contributes to the nature environ-ment. We use the solar energy system to create power and maintain the river water to flush the toilet. It is not simply a toilet facility, but rather brings a bigger idea about establishing a public space that enhances the interaction of this area.

Site Location: Located in 21 floor, Sanxia District, Taiwan

Project Program: Housing Interior Design

Program Used: Rhinoceros, 3D Studio Max, Autocad, Adobe Photoshop, Illustator andConstruction supervisor.

This interior design is focus on material and spacial continuity in space. The major material are concrete, wood and black iron. Living room and kitchen are separated by bar space, in order to emphasize the continuity, there is no solid wall in between it.

The owner wants turn his home into a social space, so friends can get together in his place. The bar area becomes the center. We try to cre-ate vintage atmosphere by keeping the original concrete wall and add the wood floor to convey

the material texture.

Compare to the openness of the living room,Master bed room and guest room are designed in a more simple way that represent daily life and privacy.Bed and bath room is being separated by a glass wall, maximize transparency in the same space.

Study room also functioned as audio room, how much does the owner love life are obvious conveyed by this design. C’est la vie.
