NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to meet in-person for our Annual
Year End Banquet. This Program Booklet captures the virtual events that were held to
recognize the achievements of our students.
KEYNOTE PRESENTER TARIQ AL-NASIR IS THE CEO AND FOUNDER OF STEMNASIUM LEARN-
ING LABS.
Al-Nasir is a recognized thought leader and innovator in science, technology, en-
gineering, and math (STEM) education. Tariq is the winner of The Mind Trust’s
2016 Charter School Innovation Summit. Tariq, aka Coach T and Professor T-
Molecule, a former intelligence officer and U.S operative in the U.S. Armed Forces,
has earned advanced degrees and certificates from MIT, NYU, Duke, Carnegie
Mellon Robotics Institute and Stanford. He is also fluent in Arabic, Spanish, Ital-
ian, Portuguese and Cantonese. Under Al-Nasir’s leadership, STEMNASIUM has
experienced great results and in just 1 year, his program has expanded from 30
scholars to serving more than 1500. In 2011, STEMNASIUM’s 3rd-grade robotics
team won an award at Drexel University for their underwater robotic design and
in 2012, the 4th and 5th-grade robotics teams placed third in a regional under-
water robotics event at Villanova University. In 2014, STEMNASIUM student and
scholar Zora Ball became the youngest person to code a mobile game app.

Mr. William “Bill” Johnson was educated in the Catholic and public schools of Indi-
ana, graduating from Cathedral High School in 1967. After working for Chrysler
Automotive, he changed his career direction and enlisted into the United States Ar-
my in 1969. After attending Barber College in Indianapolis, he continued his educa-
tion, receiving an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering at Ivy Technical Col-
lege. For 35 years, Bill was employed by the Xerox Corporation and as a respect-
ed employee, became President of the Indianapolis Black Employees Association.
Bill Johnson loved his community and was devoted to encouraging and promoting
education. He was known and loved by many youth of the city as a tutor at the
Ralph Dowe Boys Club, Indianapolis Public School #99 and Harshman Middle
School. Bill also served as a Sixth Grade facilitator and member of the MEPI Board
of Directors where he encouraged numerous students to pursue careers in engineer-
ing.
The leadership of MEPI would like to thank the Johnson family for their continued support of
MEPI through the William Johnson Legacy Scholarship Award.
