Draw and cut out some paper �ower shapes. Gently fold each petal into the centreso they overlap, and then �oat the �ower in the bowl of water. Watch whathappens! Experiment to �nd out what happens with di�erent sizes of �ower andtypes of paper or card. Can you time how long di�erent �owers take to open?

Why do you think the paper �owers open when you put them into water? Whathappens when you use thicker or thinner paper, or with di�erent sized �owers?Does it still work if you use a di�erent liquid like milk or cooking oil?
