    Student swims across channel

    Kuala Lumpur Lennard Lee, a 20-year-old medical student at Cambridge

    University, swam non-stop across English Channel in 9 hours and 45 minutes on

    Tuesday. He is the first solo swimmer to swim across the Channel this year.

    Lennard became the second Malaysian to do so. Datuk Abdul Malik Mydin

    made it in 17 hours and 35 minutes last year.

    He started the swim at 8.34 a.m. (London time) from Dover and

    completed the swim at 6.19 p.m. in Calais, France. His parents, Dr. S.M. Lee and

    Monica Liew followed him in a boat.

    I was cold, tired and my arms were aching. I trained for 4 months and

    didnt think it would be that difficult. But I never thought of giving up, said

    Lennard.

    Lennard raised 3 000 (about RM 20 000) for charity. The money will be

    given to a cancer hospital in Manchester, a new sports complex at Cambridge

    University and a cancer fund in Melaka.
