Monday 11th October Listen to Amy explain today’s learning here: https://youtu.be/oMevrdh3OF8

Reading Focus: We are learning to notice ways that authors try and convince their audience to agree with their point of view.

Daily practice - 5 mins: Say these sounds: ai, ay. Check through your ‘just right’ books to list some words that

have these sounds. For example, ‘ai’ as in paid and rain. ‘ay’ as in day and stay. Write them in two columns.

READ

Listen to Amy read a persuasive text about whether or not it is important to finish first to be a

winner: https://youtu.be/8TAiI9whHSw

Did you agree with the writer? Why/why not?

Then: You should complete independent reading of a ‘just right’ text for a minimum of 15

minutes. You might like to use ActiveLearn or Epic! to do this. Don’t forget to work on your reading goal!

Note: if you think you have met your goal, submit some proof of this to your teacher via Seesaw.

Writing Focus: We are learning to respond to different persuasive texts. We are learning to consider our own opinion when reading persuasive texts.

Daily practice - 5 mins: An exclamation mark (!) is sometimes placed at the end of a sentence to show that it is

meant to be read with feeling. For example, ‘I can’t wait!’. Write two sentences that require an exclamation mark at

the end of them.

TASK: Today’s writing will be based on what we looked at in our Reading

session. Write your answers to the following questions:

Which author do you agree with? Why?

How should a ‘good sport’ act when he/she/they win(s)? What about when

he/she/they lose(s)?

Pretend that a friend of yours is upset because his/her/their soccer team lost a

big game. Write a note that might make your friend feel better.

Submit your writing from today to Seesaw for your teacher

to see.

Maths Focus: We are learning to use arrays to assist us with our multiplication.

Key vocabulary this week

groups of, lots of, multiplied by, arrays, groups, total

Page 4: Year 1 - Learning @ Home, Term 4 Week 2

You may like to join Lee at 12:30 to do this lesson with her today. Daily practice: Count by 2s to 50 beginning at 0. Then count by 2s to 51 beginning at 29. Warm-up: Number talk! Today we would like you to look at the following pictures and create a multiplication sentence. e.g. In the picture of the apples, there are 4 groups of 3 or 3 groups of 4.

INTRO: Your warm up will help you with today’s lesson, as it was a practise, but now it's your turn!

TASK: Collect objects from around your home and organise them into groups/arrays. Then write the multiplication sentence, number sentence and the total to match the picture.

You need to do this for 4 different sets of arrays.

e.g.

or 3 groups of 4

Page 5: Year 1 - Learning @ Home, Term 4 Week 2

BQT: Why

and how do we invent things?

Inventors!

What does inventor mean?

An inventor is someone who creates/develops something new. Usually inventors come up

with new things to help solve the problems we have in the world. e.g. a vacuum was created

because sweeping takes too long.

Task: Today your job is to answer the question, ‘What makes a good inventor?’

On a piece of paper draw what you think you would look like as an inventor on one half. On the other half of the paper, write the skills/learner assets you think an inventor needs to have. You also need to say why you think that skill/asset is important. e.g. Communicator - inventors need to be communicators as they need to share their ideas with others to make their inventions come to life. Watch this Mystery Doug after you have completed the activity: https://mysterydoug.com/mysteries/inventions#slide-id-9536 After watching the video, you may like to add some more skills/learner assets that ‘good inventors’ need to have before uploading it to Seesaw for your teacher to see.

Wednesday 13th October Listen to Mitch explain today’s learning here: https://youtu.be/q9I75wMf0Mg

Reading Focus: We are learning to notice ways that authors try and convince their audience to agree with their point of view.

Daily practice - 5 mins: Say these sounds, ‘ie’ and ‘igh’. Check through your ‘just right’ books to list some words

that have these. For example ‘ie’ as in tie and pie and ‘igh’ as in light and tight. Write these in two columns. (Note

that ‘ie’ can also make the long e sound, so don’t let some words trick you!)

READ

Listen to Amy read a persuasive text that is trying to convince you to watch the movie,

Tarzan: https://youtu.be/MaX8JcQ2i4I

Are you convinced that you should watch Tarzan? Why? Why not?

Then: You should complete independent reading of a ‘just right’ text for a minimum of 15 minutes. You might like

to use Active Learn or Epic! to do this. Don’t forget to work on your reading goal!

Writing Focus: We are learning to respond to different persuasive texts. We are learning to consider our own opinion when reading persuasive texts.

You might like to join Sarah today at 12:30pm to do the writing lesson with her

(via Amy’s link).

Daily practice - 5 mins: A question mark (?) is used at the end of a sentence

that is a question. For example, ‘Why did you do that?’. Write down two other

questions and remember to use a question mark at the end.

TASK: Today’s writing will be based on what we looked at in our Reading

session. Write your answers to the following questions:

Does this review make you want to see ‘Tarzan’? Why/why not?

What sentences did you think were convincing?

Write a review for a movie that you have seen recently. Try not to tell the

audience the whole story, as you don’t want to spoil it! Try to persuade your

readers to see the movie, just by sharing your opinion and giving them enough information to interest them.

Page 9: Year 1 - Learning @ Home, Term 4 Week 2

Maths Focus: We are learning about odd and even numbers. We are learning to explore ‘groups of’ when adding numbers together.

Daily practice: Count by 10s beginning at 23. What do you notice about the ending numerals? Warm-up: Odd and even numbers... Even numbers are numbers that can be shared into pairs. An example of an even number is 4, because it can be shared into pairs of 2. Odd numbers are numbers that cannot be shared into pairs. An example of an odd number is 5, because if it is shared into pairs, there would be one left out. Look at the table below with odd numbers in RED and the even numbers in BLUE.

Then, you should spend some time playing ‘Number Ninja’. Click here to play the game: https://www.abcya.com/games/number_ninja_odd_even

TASK:

Catrina wants to know how many football cards she has collected.

She has filled up five pages of her scrapbook and on each page there are an even number of cards.

Can you show how you would find out how many cards are on each page?

Two examples are shown here:

Submit your working out of the question above to Seesaw. Remember, there is more than one answer to this question! Try and find at least three solutions.

Health

Being Cybersafe

When you are online it is very important not to tell

anyone personal information about yourself. You

may ask your parents to swap usernames with your

friends so that you can play online together. Your

parents may even help you to make an account on

an app so that you can use it.

You should never give your personal information to

anyone you don’t know, or without your parents

knowing. It is very easy to be unsafe online, so you

should always be careful. When you are unsure

about something online, the best thing to do is

speak to your parents or carers.

Task:

Have a look at the pictures and questions below.

Discuss with your parents or adults at home, what

you should do if these things happened to you.

What would you do if someone asked you where you lived on

Roblox?

Page 11: Year 1 - Learning @ Home, Term 4 Week 2

What would you do if you saw something upsetting on YouTube?

Thursday 14th October Listen to Lee explain today’s learning here: https://youtu.be/ltL-119iYFc

Reading Focus: We are learning to notice ways that authors try and convince their audience to agree with their point of view.

Daily practice - 5 mins: Say these sounds ‘ea’ and ‘ee.’ Check through your ‘just right’ book to list some words that have

these. For example ‘ea’ as in peas and ‘ee’ as in sleep. Write the examples that you find in two columns. (Note that ea can

also make other sounds, so don’t get tricked!)

Listen to Amy read a persuasive text called, Guarding the Garden:

https://youtu.be/AgVT9-U5j38

Do you agree with the author? Why/why not?

Then: You should complete independent reading of a ‘just right’ text for

a minimum of 15 minutes. You might like to use Active Learn or Epic! to do this. Don’t forget to work on your reading goal!

Writing ASSESSMENT PIECE at 9:20am LIVE

This lesson will be done ‘live’ on WebEx at our morning meeting, from 9:20am onwards. Students need to bring a

pencil and their workbook to this meeting.

Parents: This piece of writing is important for our data collection and reporting. We implore you to please not assist your child

with this writing assessment piece. Authentic assessment helps us to know what to teach your child next.

Your assistance with other learning tasks is greatly appreciated in this time of home learning.

As soon as the writing is completed, please upload the work to Seesaw - without any parent changes

please!

Maths Focus: We are learning to use ‘groups of’ (multiplication) when solving problems.

You might like to join Mitch today at 12:30pm to do this mathematics lesson with him. Daily practice: Begin at 25 and count by 5s to 165. What do you notice about the ending numerals? Are they odd numbers or even numbers? Warm-up: When you’re counting by 5s, what are the next 10 numbers after 45? Write them down.

TASK: You are going to throw 2 dice. One will tell you how many groups and the other will tell you how many in each group.

For example, if you throw a 3 this will be how many groups you have, and then if you throw a 5 you will have 3 groups that have 5 in each.

Illustrate what each problem will look like. You may draw an array or a picture showing this. Don’t forget to write down how many there are altogether by writing a number sentence. An example is included for you above.

Page 13: Year 1 - Learning @ Home, Term 4 Week 2

Friday 15th October Listen to Eliza explain today’s learning here: https://youtu.be/ngl9_qFQ9A8

Reading Focus: We are learning to notice ways that authors try and convince their audience to agree with their point of view.

Daily practice - 5 mins: Say these sounds ‘er, ir, ur.’ Check through your ‘just right’ book to list some words that

have these. For example ‘er’ as in the schwa sound in ‘mother’, ‘ir’ as in ‘swirl’, and ‘ur’ as in ‘burp.’ Write them in

three columns.

READ

Listen to Amy read a persuasive text about how much time children are

watching TV: https://youtu.be/CkAeSpF2oYE

Do you agree? Why/why not?

Then: You should complete independent reading of a ‘just right’ text for a

minimum of 15 minutes. You might like to use Active Learn or Epic! to do this. Don’t forget to work on your reading

goal!

Writing Focus: We are learning to respond to different persuasive texts. We are learning to consider our own opinion when reading persuasive texts.

You might like to join Eliza today at 12:00pm to do the writing lesson with her.

Daily practice - 5 mins: Using the dotted thirds in your workbook, practise

your handwriting. Practise these letters - g, j, p, y, z. Remember that these are

the ‘tail’ letters and need to come down below the full line.

Write some words that have these letters in them.

TASK: Today’s writing will be based on what we looked at in our Reading

session. Write your answers to the following questions:

Which of Roberto’s reasons is most convincing to you? Why?

What does Roberto tell you in the first two sentences?

Do you think kids should watch the news? Why do you think that? Do you think

many kids watch the news?

Maths Focus: We are learning to notice repeating patterns that include shapes, pictures and/or numbers.

Daily practice: Count by 2s beginning at 65. Warm-up: When you’re counting by 10s beginning at 36, what are the next 10 numbers? Write them down.

INTRO: Patterns are things that keep repeating. For example, I might draw 3 green flowers and then 2 yellow ones.

Page 14: Year 1 - Learning @ Home, Term 4 Week 2

14

If I keep the pattern going I will then have another 3 green flowers and then 2 yellow ones.

TASK: You are to continue the following patterns in your workbook. Draw the patterns below first and then continue them.
