    Youth Activists Leadership Council

    YUWA Youth has been hosting an advocacy movement called the Youth Activists

    Leadership Council, which is designed to develop youth leaders in the areas of sexual

    reproductive health and rights, international family planning and global HIV and AIDS. TheCouncil consists of 10 members, a diverse group of young people from different regional

    and academic background.

    Council members serve as youth educators, advocates, and spokespersons on the issues of

    adolescent sexual and reproductive health.

    Goals:

    The goals of the Youth Activists Leadership Council are to:

    1. Advise policy makers on the importance of young people's sexual and reproductive

    health and rights and for increasing funding for it along with HIV and AIDS in relation to

    young people.

    2. Increase public awareness on the impact of global HIV and AIDS and sexual

    reproductive health and rights (with focus on young people) nationally.

    3. Increase public awareness on the impact of national and international family planning

    on the economic development and sexual reproductive health of young people

    nationally and internationally.

    4. Sensitize the media on national & global issues of HIV and AIDS and national &

    international family planning.

    5. Strengthen advocacy for sexual and reproductive health and rights issues through

    formal and informal youth groups and initiatives to solicit universal access to

    reproductive health.

    Council members will work under YUWA. To fulfil these goals, Council members will

    organize events, utilize media outlets, and lobby policy makers at the national and

    international level on the importance of responding to the issues of national & global HIV

    and AIDS and also to the issues of supporting national and international family planning.

    Council members will meet monthly at YUWA s office ( 60 Nirajan Bikram Marga, Kharibot,

    Minbhawan, Kathmandu). It is mandatory for the council members to participate in the

    training sessions organised by YUWA after the selection process on advocacy, media

    relations, and other events and conferences. However majority of the Youth Activists

    Leadership Councils working hours are flexible.

    Position Description

    Position Title: YALC Member

    Duration: January- October 2014

    Based at: Kathmandu

    Stipend: Minimum communication support

    The Selection Process

    The selection will be based on the motivation letter, online application and interview.

    Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for the second phase of the selection process.

    If you are shortlisted, you will be contacted within a week of application closing. To those

    who are not shortlisted, we ll extend our gratitude for applying.

    Eligibility

    The eligibility criteria for selection in Youth Activists Leadership Council are:

    o Young people between ages 16 to 24 years.

    o Completed school (at least SLC or more) and should have an interest in social

    involvement regarding adolescent sexual reproductive health and rights &

    HIV and AIDS.

    o Supportive to the goals of YALC.

    o Experience on advocacy.

    o Be willing to commit at least 20 hours a month to Council activities.

    o Be available to attend the Capacity Building Training after the selection

    process.

    o Should have access to internet at least once in every two days for the

    updates.

    Established in 2009, YUWA is a registered, not for profit organization led by youth between

    the age group 16-29 years. YUWA works to promote youth participation in decision making

    levels through empowerment and advocacy. YUWA aims to enhance socially responsible,

    economically active, politically aware and technologically sound life.

    Principles- YUWA is governed by youth with the age group of 16-29 years, recognizing

    intergenerational relationship.

    - YUWA is a platform for youth to experiment their ideas.

    - YUWA works with and for youth regardless of their origin, area, gender, ethnicity,

    race, religion and political belief.

    - YUWA is committed towards transferring leadership.
