Harada THEME: RECYCLING

For the last couple of weeks we were exploring animals from different

habitats, the children were enjoying researching and doing all activities

related to different animals. This week we will explore the topic of

RECYCLING. The children will learn how to prevent and eliminate waste, and

protect our environment. The environment is very important for all, so we need to take care of it, and find

the best way to work together with parents, brothers, sisters, friends, neighbors and the whole community

to keep our environment safe and clean. We need to encourage everybody to reduce, reuse, and recycle

materials that we know are recyclable. We will be teaching the children why it is so important to put trash

in the trash can not just to leave it anywhere, also to separate cans, bottles, cardboard, plastic, different

kind of metals in to a different containers instead of putting everything in the trash. We will make a paper

plate dream catcher, a bottle cap mural, a recycled magazine mural and a crinkled paper art, all from

recycled items. For Literacy we will read Why Should I Recycle? The children will make their own recycle

project and share their project and what they have learned about recycling.

City Park Happy Fall from City Park. Last week, we welcomed Mr. David from Christian Arts

and Theater back to our school. We really missed Mr. David in the Summer and

are very glad he is back. Last week Ms. Boushas’s class talked about their favorite

things. They drew picture of the things they like. They also had the opportunity to

work with magnets. They investigated what things stuck to magnets and what

didn’t. Ms. Marisa’s class talked about “when do we do things at school” The

children did a variety of art projects and they had lots of fun. This week Ms. Marisa’s class will be

talking about who works at our school. On Tuesday night, September 29, 2015 we will be having a

parent meeting. At this meeting, The Loma Linda Dental Program will be coming to talk the parents

about their program. On Wednesday, October 1, 2015, a dentist from Loma Linda will come in and do

an evaluation on your child’s teeth. If they need work done, they will contact you. The work will either

be free or reduced cost. Also at the meeting, the parents who have not attended orientation will need

to stay for that portion of the meeting as well.

First Five - Our sessions will be concluding in the month of September with

the topic of friendship; how to be part of a group. It will be a wonderful

week full of positive vibes, posters, charts and games to encourage our

children to be good friends to one other. Our children will continue to create

unique crafts related to the letters of the week E, H, and I. The children will

The students will be able to discuss and identify the four types of seasons.

Which season has just started and which one just ended? Which season do

they prefer? Which season can they ice skate, play sports, such basketball,

football, baseball and hockey, go camping and so on. Students will make a

tree using paper bags. They will also make leaves using their hands or feet to trace. Draw the season

we are in now and write about it. Home work, Spanish and English, writing and counting numbers,

write first/last names, site words, CAT dance and music instructors will visit our site on Tuesday and

Thursday. From 4:30pm-5:15pm

be using different mediums to create their unique craft projects such as finger paint, sequences,

feathers, markers, paint and much more. The session groups are working eagerly on their art projects

for the Calvert Dinner coming up in October. Stay tuned for pictures and much more. Coming up next

week we have Letters C, U, and F. The topics for the week will be, what sounds do we hear at school?

Where do they come from?

SCHOOL AGE - The month of October is going to be a “scream”. Each week during October we will

become our own “Myth Busters”. We will be discussing Mythical Creatures from all over the world,

creatures of different cultures and their attributes. Our children encounter these kinds of creatures daily

in television but now they will learn where these creatures come from and then we will discuss them.

They can make up their own decisions whether it is fact or opinion. This will kick-start their critical

thinking and is a great start into the Fall/Autumn festivities.

STATE PRESCHOOL - We finished last week learning about caterpillars and cats. They enjoyed

listening to the story “If you take a mouse to school”. Friday, September 25, 2015 we will close the

week with pajama day. The children will learn words that begin with letters Dd, Nn, and Ss. Children

will get to share with their friends once they choose an object from the mystery box and they will say

what letter it starts with and the sound it makes. The sensory tub will also be out this week with

different types of noodles and they will experience noodle painting.

anyone who is just starting off or to those who’ve been doing this for a while.

The Home Gardens Public Library is proud to serve the community with the following free and educational

programs! Our toddler story time, commonly known as “Wiggles and Giggles” is a fun bi-weekly event

(Wednesday & Fridays) for infants and school aged children. Bilingual story time, “Aventura’s de Lecture”

takes place ever Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm and children are introduced to the world of literacy and

culture, with arts and crafts that follow. All community teens (ages 10 and up) are invited to form part of

Anime Club, every Tuesday at 4:00pm!

Home Gardens Library is gearing up for its annual summer reading program, Junto’s Leemos. Our theme

this year is Read to the Rhythm, and we're looking forward to collaborating with our local YMCA on some

lively activities. All ages, including pre-readers, kids, teens and adults, are invited to sign up for the

program where you earn prizes for reading books and attending events. Our kick-off event will be at

really fun and a really nice experience. Next week the teens will be having

fun doing crafts with us like Coastal letters, plastic spoon mirrors, string art

and many more fun activities to end our fun week we will be playing fun

board games an karaoke and just dance.

We also offer Zumba Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10-11

am and 6-7 pm. The classes are $3.00 dollars. From week to week the

Zumba classes range from classic Latin salsa to today’s modern pop music.

P A G E 4 Citrus Circle Hello from Citrus Circle YMCA! At our site we continue to encourage children to bring

their homework so they can be assisted by our staff if they need it. After children are

done with their homework they are allowed to pick an activity to do while the other

children finish homework. This week the children were very interested in dominoes,

hot wheels and water painting. Last Friday we began painting boxes and the children

have been decorating them throughout the week in groups. Parents please make

sure that you are checking your child’s homework when they get home. On Fridays there is no

homework so we do arts and crafts and fun activities. This Friday the children will be making ninja turtles

and minions with toilet paper rolls!

Jurupa Toddlers – This week our classroom will be engaging in a theme about

colors. We will be introducing a world of rainbows through dot art painting,

mutli-color spray bottle art, food coloring dyeing activity, and a colorful

collage.

Preschool 1 - This week in our Preschool #1 class, we will continue to learn about trees and plants with

a focus on what food comes from trees. We will read Chicka-Chicka-Boom-Boom, Trees Count, and

revisit 2 of our stories from last week. For fine motor practice, we will cut out flower pictures and

categorize lower-case letters with capital letters. For large motor skills, we will play hide-and-seek outside

and have a dance contest inside.

Preschool 2 – This week in our classroom, we will be reviewing our classroom rules. We will also be

asking the children which learning center is their favorite and why. We will be making colored moon sand,

and we will be bubble painting. On Friday children will wear their favorite color.

Preschool 3 – This week we will continue our study on trees and we will talk about the different type of

insects that live on trees and work our way up to matching four different types of trees.

School Age – The children in school age will continue to learn about Hispanic Heritage month and will

learn about Cesar Chavez and the United farm Workers. School Age is going to start the plans to create

a garden in their play area.

Merrill Last week we explored different kinds of exercise. The children did

calisthenics (touching their toes, jumping jacks, sit ups, etc.) and discussed

different sports activities. On Friday we had Wear your Favorite Sports

Jersey which was a lot of fun.

This week we will investigate how our bodies work when we exercise. The children will

be discussing what parts of their body works harder when they exercise. We have PUMPKINS in our

garden. The children are so excited!! We discovered them this week. Some of the pumpkins are the

size of a ping pong ball.
