Xylem Learning Center is located in Montecchio Maggiore (Vicenza - Italy), within 45 minutes of Verona and Venice airports.Built at the beginning of 2000, theXylem Learning Center in our Lowarafacility has educated thousands of waterindustry professionals in the latestadvancements in commercial buildingservices, industrial, residential andagricultural applications. Within the pump demonstration classroom, we are able to offer mobile demonstration units, network and Wi-Fi equipment, and configurable work stations to further assist attendees in their training.The Xylem Learning Center offers various classes including Food and Beverage, HVAC, Water Systems, Drives, Wastewater, and Residential/Commercial/Industrial. Each course covers the breadth of the Xylem product line and related systems, and is available for employees, consultants, engineers, installers, distributors, dealers and OEMs. These educational sessions are designed to provide attendees with extensive, hands-on experience in a state-of-the-art demonstration classroom with training on actual installations to help gain valuable troubleshooting skills.

At Xylem Learning Center, together with advice from full-time instructors and product managers, attendees learn product applications, markets, troubleshooting and system components. Participants spend their time enhancing their learning experience, in the classroom and with optional dedicated site visits.

Giovanni MugnoloTechnical Training ManagerGiovanni Mugnolo is the Technical Training Manager based in Montecchio Maggiore, Italy and is responsible for leading the technical training team throughout various business units in the region, including developing structured programs, supporting product management and sales, and designing tools, systems and process for analysis, design, development and implementation of technical training and competency standards. Giovanni has a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Padua, Italy.

Tommaso BoldrinTechnical Training SpecialistTommaso Boldrin is the Technical Training Specialist based in Montecchio Maggiore, Italy. Tommaso is responsible for technical training, and is involved in the creation and delivery of educational content, while developing and maintaining materials, including reference guides and presentations. Tommaso also contributes through coaching, advising and supporting with technical solutions and compelling business cases throughout various business units in the region. Tommaso has a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Padua, Italy.

Xylem Montecchio has been on the same site since 1968 located just outside Vicenza, and an hour from Venice, Italy. This Xylem facility manufactures a full range of electric pumps dedicated to different areas of application. The factory is also engaged in the research, development and produc-tion of electric pumps and systems for the treatment and control of water. It is the largest facility in Europe for Xylem, and specializes in stamped stainless steel products.

The town of Montecchio Maggiore is just 70 km from Venice and 43 km from Verona, both with international airports. It has a population of 23,000 people and is home to two castles, said to have inspired the Romeo and Juliet story. It is well-connected by the A4 Milan-Venice motorway, and is 10 minutes from Altavilla-Tavernelle railway station. There are good local facilities including bars and restaurants in the town itself.

The ISO 9001 quality certified facility in Strzelin is the Group’s newest facility, and features 6,000 sq mtrs of manufacturing space alongside an additional 2,800 sq mtrs of office and warehouse space. The training facility includes 3 meeting rooms capable of accommodating up to 30 people. The facility primarily produces Lowara branded pumps for the residential and commercial building services as well as for the agricultural and irrigation sectors including 4-inch submersible pumps, 6 to 12-inch pumps and both surface and submersible motors.

Strzelin is located in the south west of Poland, on the Olawa river less than 40 km from the regional capital of Wroclaw – the 4th largest city in the country – which has a good choice of restaurants and hotels. Strzelin is a small town of just 12,000 people, known mainly for its granite quarries. Strzelin is served by air from Frederic Chopin Airport in Warsaw, which is 320 km away. However a direct train is available from Wroclaw taking 37 minutes, which connects to the prime Polish cities of Warsaw, Krakow and Lodz as well as Prague.

The Xylem Austria facility in Stockerau near Vienna was originally established as a pump factory in 1909 by Ernst Vogel. Xylem Austria is active in the planning, development, production and marketing of water technology pumps and conveying systems. The company develops complete solutions as well as turnkey production, including the Xylem brands of Lowara, Flygt and Wedeco. The factory has an extensive sales and service network, with a team of highly experienced and trained technicians experienced in all areas of residential and commercial pump applications. The training room can accommodate up to 20 people.

Stockerau itself is located just 25 km from Vienna, connected by the S3 of the Vienna S-Bahn metro railway operating half-hourly services, and the E49 road which leads to Germany and terminates in Vienna. It is also separated from the nearby Danube river by forest with a 23 km trail network for walking, running and cycling. It is home to 16,000 people with an array of restaurants, bars and cultural facilities.

Xylem Hoddesdon was established in 1967 and remains at its original location, some 65 km from London, UK. The site is ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 certified as well as product approvals, and has 6 training rooms to accommodate up to 25 people. The engineering department is the center of excellence for Xylem lobe, FIP, sliding vane and leisure marine (waste), and centrifugal magnetic drive pumping technologies. Shop floor activities support pump precision component machining and assembly. It was established in 1994, and originally operated by Laing, now a Xylem subsidiary, which is a specialist in the manufacture of residential circulators. Cegléd is a town of 38,000 inhabitants in the Pest county of Hungary, situated between the Duna and Tisza rivers. It is well known for its thermal waters. The facts about our factory tour.

Safety.We take your personnel safety seriously while you are on site. A range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and is mandatory during your visit. For example, safety glasses and a high visibility jacket will be provided, and a range of sanitized safety shoes in different sizes will be available.

Accompanied tour.Where possible the tour will be undertaken in small groups. You will be guided by one of our trained staff, and accompanied at all times while on site. Any dialogue will be in English unless another language is requested, subject to staff availability.

We can also provide automatic commentary in various languages using headsets. Please ask about this when you are on site.

The chance to explore our manufacturing facility in Montecchio Maggiore, Italy will provide some valuable insight into our latest and initiative pump production processes. Here is a flavour of what to expect.

The facts about our factory tour.

Working exhibits.Montecchio is a working factory, and you will see live production in operation. For example you will see complex designs created automatically (via part number) on our computer-controlled laser welding and cutting machines. These are capable of 6 meters per minute working speed, cutting components up to 8.3 mm thick.You will also see one of our two automatic press lines. The 8 in-line presses weigh 220 tons each and are controlled by linear robots, creating one item every 30 seconds under normal production.

Classrooms.Any lectures and presentations will be held in our classrooms in the Xylem Learning Center. You can read more about them on pages 12 and 13. There will be regular breaks and access to refreshments.

Pump Basic Training Course.The Pump Basic Training Course covers all Xylem products manufactured in Europe including end suction, multistage, HVAC, borehole, drainage, sewage pumps, booster sets and variable speed drives. During the five-day class, attendees will receive instruction regarding the selection, sizing and installation of these pumps and features/benefits of each product, as well as interactive training in the demonstration classroom. The Pump Basic Course also includes a plant tour of the manufacturing facility. Each attendee will learn how to select and size the proper pump for the application. In addition, attendees will receive valuable experience in selecting, sizing and installing all the pumps available in the Xylem Portfolio.

DAY 1Pump Basic The Pump Basic course covers the fundamental aspects of pump theory, starting from the design principles, ns (specific speed), different impeller types, flow, head, power, NPSH and selection considerations. Examples, exercises and practical tips will be delivered. Duration: 5 hours.

DAY 2Xylem product portfolio A complete overview of the Xylem portfolio for the region, including pumps, controls, Variable Speed Drives (VSD) and booster sets. Duration: 1,5 hours.Factory tour Xylem’s facilities adopt the Lean Manufacturing approach, reducing the delivery time and waste with very high flexibility. During the tour the visitor has the possibility to see all the different steps in the manufacturing process, starting with the raw material up to shipment of the final product. Duration: 1,5 hours.End suction pumps A complete presentation of Xylem end suction pumps starting from the small blockpump in pressed stainless steel up to the larger casted tailor-made pumps, together with their main applications. Duration: 2 hours.

DAY 3Multistage pumps A complete presentation of Xylem multistage pumps, one of the most extensive ranges available in the market. Starting from the small horizontal e-HM up to the larger MP pumps, together with their main applications. Duration: 2 hours.

Variable Speed Drives (VSD)A complete presentation of Xylem drives and monitoring systems; a comprehensive portfolio of Variable Speed Drives for all applications (residential, commercial, industrial) and a technical presentation of the range. A practical session on different demo units is provided. Duration: 3 hours.

DAY 4Booster sets During this session attendees learn how to select, size and program the different booster set units combined with various electronic equipment. After a general overview on the different configurations, attendees will have the chance to set up a real boosting system in different simulated conditions. Duration: 3 hours.Wastewater pumps A complete presentation of Xylem wastewater pumps for residential and commercial building services, covering the drainage and sewage range as well the different impeller technologies available. The attendees will also see the pumps working in different conditions on a demonstration unit. Duration: 2 hours.

DAY 5Borehole pumps Xylem’s borehole products are suitable for different markets with different configurations available. During this session attendees will learn how to select, size, install and couple pumps, motors, Variable Speed Drives and filters, in order to achieve the right system for the right application. Pre-approval is required.The Pump Advanced Training Course covers theory and design for non-standard pumps: viscosity, impurities and erosion, motor selection, variable speed and its interaction with pumps and systems. The Pump Advanced Course also includes a plant tour of the manufacturing facility in Montecchio, Italy or Strzelin, Poland.Each attendee will learn how to select and size the proper pump for the application. DAY 1Pump AdvancedThe Pump Advanced session covers all special working conditions and installation of clean water pumps. Attendees receive information on how to select and size the right system in different situations, like heating systems (how the NPSHR changes, which material is more suitable, etc), multi-pump operations, the different behaviors of viscous liquid, and how to install a pump or system properly in particular conditions. Examples, exercises and practical tips will be delivered. Duration: 5 hours.

DAY 2Xylem product portfolio A complete overview of the Xylem portfolio for the region, including pumps, controls, Variable Speed Drives (VSD) and booster sets. Duration: 1,5 hours.Factory tour Xylem’s facilities adopt the Lean Manufacturing approach, reducing the delivery time and waste with very high flexibility. During the tour the visitor has the possibility to see all the different steps in the manufacturing process, starting with the raw material up to shipment of the final product. Duration: 1,5 hours.Water supply system design A session dedicated to water supply system design for building. DAY 3HVAC – heating system design A lesson totally dedicated to heating systems and pumps. During the morning session the different approaches to system design and how to calculate and size the proper heating system will be covered – starting from basic up to the latest system design. In the afternoon attendees will learn how to select and size the right pump for the heating system together with suitable electronic systems and equipment in the Xylem portfolio. Finally attendees will have the opportunity to experiment with a working unit in order to understand the different possible situations they may find in the market. Duration: 5 hours.

DAY 4HVAC – cooling system design A full day of training dedicated to cooling systems. During this session attendees learn how to select, size and configure the right pump for the right system. In the morning the main systems will be presented and analyzed, in order to better understand the standard components and design approaches adopted in the market. Duration: 5 hours.

DAY 5Optional site visit The last day of the training may be dedicated to a site visit, where the attendees will have the chance to see a real working system, depending on site availability and time of year. Duration: 3 hours.

THE WATER TOWEREach tower is designed for quick construction, one-day installation and easy manual maintenance. It can operate without power, using a UF filter to produce 10,000 liters a day of clean water—enough for 1,000 people. The tower includes soap dishes where children can wash their hands after using the latrine, playing, and before eating.

1. Who can apply for a course?At Xylem Learning Center the courses are open to all Xylem employees and direct and indirect customers.

2. How do I apply for Xylem Learning Center’s courses?Xylem employees should fill in the application form, completing all necessary sections. The application form is available at the following link: lowara.com/trainingXylem customers should arrange and submit any course request through their local ASM (Area Sales Manager), who will take care of the enrollment.

3. How much is the cost of a course?All the courses are free of charge.

4. Is competence in English required?Yes, intermediate knowledge of English is required because each course is delivered in English. However since a technical person may be present from your local country office they may be able to provide language assistance.

5. What if I have questions about the data I need to submit?If you need further information, please contact [email protected].

6. What are the selection criteria for courses requiring minimum experience?The assessment is based on your CV, reference letters and other relevant documents submitted in order to prove your level of knowledge and required experience.

7. How will I be informed about the final outcome of the application?You will be sent a personal e-mail to the address you provide, containing information about the final outcome of the application.

8. I am not an EU citizen. Do I need a visa and permit to stay?Yes. It is your responsibility to take care of all these issues. The Xylem Learning Center team will support students by providing an invitation letter and additional information when required.

9. Is hotel accommodation arranged by the Xylem Learning Center team?While we are happy to assist with your logistics and bookings, these will be at your own expense. You can find more about local hotel accommodation by pages 6.

10. Can you be flexible with course programmes?Yes, our customers can choose any mix of course content that is available at a specific location to tailor a course to their exact requirements.

11. Can you do off-site customer training?We can design, develop and deliver tailored training courses at any location.

12. What is the dress code at the Xylem Learning Center?Dress code is business casual.

13. During my visit do you cover travel insurance?No, you need to arrange your own cover during the visit.
