There is something about a woman, not just any woman, but a Fierce Fearless Free woman that illuminates a room. Women that are truly “bad” in the best sense of the word do not have to go out of their way to attract opportunities and relationships. They do not have to “try” to look like a boss, look attractive or look ambitious. Those in her presence inevitably sense all of these characteristics and more. Her personality is alluring and magnetic in any environment.

She knows how to make a statement without saying a word. It is amazing how those in her environment immediately respect her. Other amazing women are empowered by her presence, admire and want to connect with her.

What is it about her? It is simple. She has certain principles that govern her life – seven principles to be exact. Yes, the number of completion. These seven principles set her apart from ordinary women. These principles are non-negotiable. Pay close attention. Are you a Fierce Fearless Free woman?

Principle 1. She puts God first. She is strong and sound in her spirituality as this is the foundation on which her morals and values rely. She knows what and in whom she believes and worships. Principle 2. She sets an example. She is an exemplary role model for women and young girls! She accepts and understands her responsibility in raising our daughters and saving our sisters. Principle 3. She is Sophisticated SEXY. She gives a little, but not a lot. She does not put her body on display to receive the attention of others. She knows her worth. Principle 4. She is respectful. She respects her mind, body, soul and money. She feeds her mind with knowledge, cherishes her temple, cultivates her spirit and has her own money! Principle 5. She is supportive. She supports and uplifts other women. She would never tear them down!

Principle 6. She is patient. She does NOT settle. She waits on what God has for her whether it pertains to her career, business or love! Principle 7. Absolutely NO BAD B*!@#%$ AllOWED. She never acknowledges, uses or responds to such terminology. SHE is a woman. SHE is a queen. SHE is royalty.

It is truly a small world as there is a Fierce Fearless Free Woman who we all have in common. She has upheld these principles with xcellence. She is none other than Angella Palmer-Banks. She provides this incredible platform designed to uplift each one of us. If you are a Fierce Fearless Free Woman or aspire to be, I encourage you to join my free VIP mailing list at fiercefearlessfree.com.

I’M BLESSED AND HIGHLY FAVOURED

For the whole year, wake up in the morning and declare; “I’m blessed and highly favored” and you’ll see the productivity of your day unfold splendidly.

When you say words such as “Be in Faith,” be conscious of what you are saying because the declaration, which is being made, is powerful. There is nothing more pleasing to God than to hear his servants, speak-ing and believing faith, for we know without it, it’s impossible to please God.

Believe in the words you speak, for they will serve as a shield in your times of need. You may not see it now, but eventually before you know it, ALL THINGS will fall into place for your life. Trust and believe that God is pleased, and will show up on your behalf when you lean and depend upon him. You must also know that your words are not in vain, and will not, shall not, return void.

SPEAK THIS DECLARATION

I’m blessed and highly favored when I wake up, I’m blessed and highly favored when I leave for work, I’m blessed and highly favored when men and women look at me, I’m blessed and highly favored during the day, I’m blessed and highly favored in the evening.

I’m blessed and highly favored in my home, I’m blessed and highly favored in my car, I’m blessed and highly favored in all my comings and goings. I’m blessed and highly favored in my marriage and all my relationships are beneficial to me, I’m blessed and highly favored with an overflowing of blessings and abundance of grace that abounds me.

I’m blessed and highly favored everywhere, with everything, and everyone, that Heaven has purposed me for the year. I’m blessed and highly favored when I see the revelations and manifestations of God, because I am assured that he will never leave, forsake, nor abandon me.

………………………………………….Therefore, I’m always blessed and highly favored!!!

On January 28th, Mr. Tony Delk will turn 41 years old. A young man of favor and humble beginnings has reached such a high-level of success within a short time frame. Although, it may appear short to his worldwide fans, his journey to excel started at an early young age, through self-discipline, work ethics, a listening ear, and having people rally for him and his success, with only one motive, to have him become everything God had gifted him to be.

That gifting can be named, “Love & Basketball!” He knew as a little 5-year-old boy that basketball would be his first love. Google him and his career highlights are too numerous to list, however he’s reminded that his most memorable moment was scoring 53 points while playing for the Phoenix Suns against his former team mates, the Sacramento Kings.

He wears many titles, amongst them and most notable is his career as a retired NBA player with teams such as Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, and the Detroit Pistons. His college career was just as notable at University of Kentucky (UK), where he once held titles such as SEC Player of the Year, NCAA Most Outstanding Player, and many more. Long after his UK Wildcats days are over, his momentum at his alumni continues, as he prepares for another career highlight to

have his “00” jersey hung from the rafters at Rupp Arena. Tony will become the 43rd person from the UK Men’s Basketball program to have his jersey retired. He holds the school’s record for the most

3-pointers and ranks fifth for the school’s all-time scoring list (www.courierjournal.com).

to his heart, none of them compares to his title of a dad to three beautiful girls, Taylor (16), Bella (11), and Trinity (9). When asked which of the girls is most like him, he chuckled and said, “Trinity, because of her indecisiveness, truthfulness, and funny personality. Our birthdays are also just days apart, mine the 28th and hers the 31st, so we’re both Aquarius.” He hopes that his girls will always remember (1) to treat people how they want to be treated, (2) always be respectful, (3) set goals, (4) and to always give 100% to anything and everything they attempt to do.

Delk states, “These are the values my parents taught me.”

Born to Mr. Florence and Mrs. Leslie Delk, and the baby boy of eight siblings, his parents equipped him with invaluable life lessons that has attributed to his continued success. He said, “My dad was born in 1918 during the great depression, and endured much of slavery, and the civil rights movement; however, I never heard neither of my parents speak ill of anyone, always having positive and encouraging attitudes towards us and anyone else that would cross their path. They always told me to dream big and go as far as I could go!” His parents both gave him his individuality; however, he prides his spiritual foundation as a gift from his mom to believe and trust in

God as his guide, and be his biggest mentor in life. As we walked the halls of Haywood High School, located in Brownsville, TN, we laughed and reminisced about our days as classmates, and returning to his first major playground on the courts, before the success. Many things had changed but many things had remained the same. He still holds near and dear to him, his childhood friends Reginald Peet, Willie Lewis, and Coach Kendall Dancy, who is now giving the Haywood High Tomcats Varsity Boys Basketball

Team, the same opportunities, and platform that he was afforded. His words for the youth today are, “Do not be afraid to step out of the box, allow your passion to drive your work ethics and lead you to success. There are other individuals that are working just as hard as you are, so never stop perfecting your craft.”

When asked, what’s next for Tony Delk, he said, “To give back of myself through my non-profit organization, Taylor Delk Sickle Cell Foundation, other community outreach efforts, and to become the Best Analyst/Commentator. My days as a coach may not be over just yet, right now my focus is to become just as successful of a business man as I am an athlete.

I love my life as an ESPN SEC Network Commentator and being close to my girls with a regular day to day routine of being a normal dad, doing normal things with my girls.” I could not help but ask the question, “What is it that people don’t know about Tony Delk?” He chuckled with a smile and said, “I love to read! I’m addicted to knowledge on both a domestic and global level.” “ I am also a member of Omega Psi Phi.” I am most proud to write this story of a childhood friend that has exemplified excellence in both his personal and professional life. Xcellence, Inc. congratulates you on your continued success and “Thank You” for your commitment to stronger leadership worldwide.

Kiddie Corner

with Aniya Hey you guys, February is Black history month, and is right around the corner. This holiday has been celebrated since 1976, to honor, learn, and give respect, to all the achievements that have been accomplished by black men and women. These achievements consist of things you use day to day made by these extra-ordinary human beings.

George Washington Carver , made 150 food recipes and products using peanuts. He also received the Spingarn medal of the NAACP. The toy that lets you soak yourself while having fun, known as the Super Soaker Water Gun, was created by Lonnie George Johnson, and was the top selling toy in the United States and remained for 2 years (1991-1992). Mrs. Mae Carol Jemison was the first black woman to go into space in 1992, and Mr. Bluford was the first black male to go into space in 1983. These aren’t just inventions there are also amazing achievements. As a little girl, I wasn’t born during the Civil Rights Movement, but have been blessed to see our 1st Black President of the United States, Mr. Barack Obama. He was raised in Hawaii and is currently serving his 2nd term as our President. The people of the United States elected him on November 4, 2008 and re-elected him on November 6, 2012.

Those days for President Obama, and many others that came before and will come after him was made possible by people like, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Ms. Rosa Parks, Ms. Harriet Tubman, and many more, that fought for our freedom and peace, as a race.

I want to leave this quote by President Barack Obama, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change we seek.”

I hope you enjoyed my article and learned something new about our great African-American Leaders. I challenge you to become one too!

Hey everyone! I am so excited to be able to write an article in this edition of Xcellence! Since black history month is drawing near I wanted to spotlight some of the top African American CEO’s of today, since that is what I aspire to be one day. Oprah Winfrey, America’s most beloved talk show ,actress ,producer ,magazine owner, and philanthropist is the CEO of Harpo Produc-tions. Next is Kenneth Fraiser, who is the CEO of Merck & Co. Incorporated. Fraiser is the first African-American to own a pharmaceutical company. Ursula Burns is the CEO of Xerox and is also ranked 14th person for most power-ful person. Russell Simmons is the founder and CEO of Def Jam Records and is also an activist. Kenneth Chenault is the CEO of American Express and also received the prestigious Third Lantern Award. I’m especially excited that Mr. Marvin Ellison, the new CEO of JCPenny is from my home town, Brownsville, TN. Last, but not least, one of my personal favorites, Ms. Angella Palmer-Banks, CEO and Founder of Xcellence Incorporated, also the publisher of this magazine, and my mentor. I strive every day to be more like the people I mentioned above. Everyone who is listed here has done phenomenal work. I know that one day, if I stay focused I will be among these great people.

Mr. Terry Beckom is a Duluth, GA resident, with heritage tracing back to a small West Tennessee Rural Town, called Ripley, TN. He’s a proud graduate of Ripley High School Tigers and the Class of 1992. He is also a proud father of three, Antaivan(21),Amiri(14), and Amani (3). His love for fitness landed him in the perfect career opportunity. He could use a combination of career and fitness to make the world a safer place. Mr. Beckom relocated from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department to the Greater Atlanta area in 2006, to work for the Fulton County Sheriff Department, which he is currently still employed.

Terry enjoys his career as a deputy sheriff, but his energy level escalated, when asked about his true passion. “My true passion is fitness; to me it is the Fountain of Youth. In a society where people want a microwave type of health lifestyle, fitness is the foundation of living a full prosperous life. Everybody wants results overnight, but do not want to put the work in to achieve long lasting results.” He feels that society has made obesity acceptable, yet the overall health of our nation is declining expeditiously. He then uses the two analogies to further reiterate his thoughts. “Everybody desires to go to heaven, but everyone will not live a conscious clean life to enter heaven. Everybody wants the magazine body, but no one wants to put the work in to look like a cover model.” He then recommends that a simple workout of 45 minutes to an hour a day, will make a huge impact in the overall health of an individual.

Mr. Beckom knows that statement personally, when he faced a near traumatic moment, and nearly faced death. He had always been health conscious since his earlier days in high school, and cared about his physical appearance just as much. It all started in 2009, when he visited his dermatologist to address minor facial scars left from pimples. He was prescribed the medication, Bactrim, and was shortly thereafter sent on his way. Little did he know that his life was about to change forever. Before he could finish his

Page 17: Xcellence community magazine winter 2015 issue

prescription, and within less than 2 weeks turn-a-round time, he was near death. Unknowingly, Terry had an allergic reaction to the meds and after consultation with several doctors and unable to confirm what he was dealing with, he was finally diagnosed with the Stephen Johnson Syndrome skin disease, and then immediately rushed to the ICU Burn Center, located in Augusta, GA.

Terry remembers those days as ones filled with immense burning sensation from internal, to his external, which can be seen in his pictures. He said, “I wanted to die. I never forget that it was Super Bowl Sunday, and my nurse asked me if I wanted to watch the game. I starred at a 52 inch plasma t.v. located inside my hospital room, and could visibly see another image, yet the t.v. was off and no one was beside me. It was at that moment, after I felt it might have been an hallucination, that I realized that there was an angel along bedside with me. The angel then covered me with its wings, and my vision went dark, and I heard the voice say that I got you and have you covered.” It was in that moment that Mr. Beckom said that he began to fight, and knew that God had greater plans in store for

him. When his doctor affirmed to him that if his physical fitness was not in excellent shape, he could have possibly died or had a much longer recovery timeframe.

Today, Mr. Beckom uses his near death experience to encourage and motivate others to reach their personal health dreams and goals. He plans to become an entrepreneur and open his own fitness center over the next 5 years. He knows all too personally that a change in eating and exercise habits, will produce lifelong healthy habits. He is a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer and works with private clients in the Greater Atlanta area.

Xcellence, Inc. is proud to offer Mr. Beckom’s fitness and training sessions now to our national community anytime/anywhere. Terry will be joining our team of specialized coaches with Xcellence, Inc., as a Fitness Coach,

through our new iXcel Online Institute (iXi). Through this virtual-technological platform, Mr. Beckom can work with clients across the country, motivating and encouraging them to develop work-out plans, monitor eating habits, and ensure that they will also hit their health targets. We are committed to meeting the unmet needs of the people in communities all over. Let Mr. Beckom become your fitness coach and assist you in living a healthier life! It was an amazing discovery that they were high school rivalries during a brief conversation at work, during the graveyard shift at FedEx that brought them together. She was a college student studying architecture, and he had just completed school studying graphic art and photography. They later became close friends and eventually husband and wife while taking bulk loads of pictures along the way; documenting moments with friends, family, and each other, simply as a hobby. Based on their beautiful work, attention to detail, and after receiving numerous requests to take pictures for others, that hobby, quickly turned into a profession. Together, they have built a strong reputation as a dependable husband and

wife team in photography for special occasions, such as weddings, family reunions, parties, and personal portraits. For over 20 years, they have captured images at hundreds of events and photographed thousands of people. As successful business owners of David O’Neal Smith Photography, their pictures will no doubt be shared and appreciated for generations to come. The Best Thing We Can Do For Our Children is

READ-Out-Loud

If I could testify before Congress on any subject it would be that we should read out loud to our children and make sure they can read. Our juvenile courts and prisons are full of people who cannot read. Now that children are back to school, it is a good time to remind everyone that it is always important to read out loud to children. Reading out loud helps children build vocabulary and as you ask them questions about the story, it encourages them to think and use their imaginations. Reading out loud promotes bonding among parents and children and reaps benefits that last for life.

I can still remember my Grandpa reading to me as a small child. My grandpa lived to be 92 years old. That is one of the most endearing qualities I remember about him. I have asked older students if their parents read to them when they were young. The ones whose parents did so can tell me enthusiastically that they did and they remember the stories.

I used to tell my children that books were their friends and they could take you to many places. I took them to the library regularly. I have passed my love for the library on to them, especially my youngest daughter who now takes her children there. Reading out loud is not only beneficial for younger children, but older ones as well. Reading a book that intrigues both you and your older child promotes discussion, which may be hard to come by during the teen years.

My main goal as the National Literacy Ambassador this year is to promote reading out loud to the parents of children who live at Mercy Housing Projects across America. If you would like more information about reading out loud to children, please write to me at [email protected] or call 888-983-1672 x 700.

I would like to share a short story today about non-profits and the work they provide throughout any community. Back in 2011, when Xcellence approached me for a membership I had no idea the journey that was about to follow, but what you are about to read, will no doubt turn you heart to believing in non-profit organizations. I would like to introduce you to a young lady named Rebecca Browder. Rebecca came to me right after Xcellence approached me about joining their non-profit organization. Rebecca had a rare disorder called “Proteus Syndrome” (only 1/500 is born with

this syndrome worldwide) and by the time she reached out to me she was no longer able to freely move about and was confined to her bed. Rebecca had a story to tell and was searching for someone to help her. Rebecca grew up in a life in which children would stare at her, unable to ask, why do you look like you do? Rebecca had a dream, to publish her story so others would know that it is okay to be different and that it is okay to ask questions. I took on Rebecca’s project of bringing to life her story. This was quite a challenge, since she only had 10 pages written, but together

we turned those 10 pages into 100 and into her book. In 2012, her book was published and Rebecca began to message everyone she knew to come by her home and buy a copy with her autograph. Now let me advise you that those 50 books with her autograph are rare, for Rebecca is no longer with us. Now you might be asking the question, what does this have to do with Xcellence and non-profit organizations. Community and the desire to enhance the lives of individuals in their community; that is one of Xcellence’s missions and this is why you are reading this story. pg. 19

Page 21: Xcellence community magazine winter 2015 issue

Not only did Xcellence support Rebecca’s book, but also in 2012, during their Annual Gala. Xcellence also supported Rebecca throughout the remainder of her life. That year Xcellence inducted Rebecca as their Honorary Member and sent to her the Xcellence Covent which was delivered and read to Rebecca by her lifelong teacher Mrs. Linda Stockstill. This opened an exciting new world for Rebecca, because she was a part of a community organization and she was very proud, and was equally proud of her position with Xcellence. Rebecca supported Xcellence through her face book web site and Xcellence supported Rebecca through marketing her new book; “Reaching for Heaven; Rebecca’s Journey”. Rebecca’s book can be purchased on Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, and by sending me an email to [email protected]. A portion of the proceeds from Rebecca’s book goes to the Proteus Syndrome Foundation to support their ongoing research program. Now that they have found the cause, funds are still needed in order to find a cure. Donations are always welcome at www.proteus-syndromefoundation.org. Rebecca passed away in August 2013 and was honored at Xcellence 2013 Gala event in Nashville, TN. A moment of silences was dedicated to Rebecca and her lifelong dreams of helping others. Rebecca’s dream came true and I know deep within my heart that she passed this life peacefully and happy; to enter a life free of pain and suffering. Xcellence is not only dedicated to making a difference in communities, but also to support and assist other non-profit organizations as well. Together we have a chance to change and support communities nationwide. Angella Banks, CEO & Owner, has dedicated her life to Xcellence, Inc. in order to bring about change within her hometown community of Brownsville, Tennessee, and other local and international communities across the world.
