As I survey the world around me, I stand amazed despite the cataclysmic changes which have transpired in technology, our world, and our society. It seems odd to me, that despite of all these changes, the challenges we face today are very similar to those we faced when we first started. Here are a few current trends that have captured my attention: • Government fiscal policies have held interest rates at extraordinarily low levels for the last 7 years. • Financial regulations established by congress and delegated to bureaucrats for design and enforcement to curb the actions of a few large abusive financial providers. The “one size fits all” nature of these regulations has limited smaller financial institutions in their ability to tailor their services to the needs of the people and communities which they have long served. • Technology threats like the one most recently disclosed regarding Target have impacted 40 million people, cost financial institutions billions of dollars and yet left retailers untouched because of protections granted them by congress in the Dodd Frank Act. • The transformation of the Health Care Industry has impacted employers, people, communities, and health care workers in a negative way while producing few positive outcomes thus far. None of these observations strike me as positive but they do have some common threads. There is a common belief that a centralized authority will make better decisions about how to take care of people than localized service providers are able to do. There is a common belief that people need to be taken care of, along with an implied belief that people are not smart enough to take care of themselves. There is a disposition in the direction of picking winners and losers with regard to using federal resources that seems to be more geared to political/philosophical outcomes than positive impacts on people and communities. Finally, if a decision results in a poor outcome rather than undoing it, we are inclined to do even more of the same in the hopes of a different outcome. So you might ask, “Why are you optimistic?” I am optimistic because I believe people are good and want to do the right thing. I see these characteristics every day in the people I work with and in the people I help to change their financial futures. Some of us have forgotten that there are consequences to the decisions we make and the actions we take. There are many people who we help who never learned the questions to ask and the actions to take to manage their financial lives. I am optimistic because U$X FCU is making a difference. We are teaching people to improve their credit, lower their monthly payments, get rid of high interest credit cards and avoid financial predators. If you want to do better with your finances, come see us. We can often help. If your finances are in order, then introduce us to your friends whose finances may need work. We would love to help them. One last thought, in May 2014 (6th OH) (20th PA), you have the opportunity to make a decision which will have consequences. You can vote in the primary to send representatives to your governmental bodies who can give you the government you want (and deserve). Ask questions, will they give you liberty or will they give you mandates? Will they provide people with a hand up or a hand out? Choose wisely. I look forward to serving you over the next 75 years, building brighter financial futures, one person at a time. Best regards, David R. PRESIDENTS MESSAGEWhy I am optimistic about the next 75 yearsU$X Federal Credit Union is looking ahead to our next 75 years. As I survey the world around me, I stand amazed despite the cataclysmic changes which have transpired in technology, our world, and our society. It seems odd to me, that despite of all these changes, the challenges we face today are very similar to those we faced when we first started.

Here are a few current trends that have captured my attention:

• Government fiscal policies have held interest rates at extraordinarily low levels for the last 7 years.

Tips for CATCHING THE SAVINGS WAVE!Learning to save money takes practice. By saving, you can spend money on what’s important to you—whether that’s a new video game, a trip to the movies, a used car, or even a college education.

Let’s get started:

Elementary school: - Ask your parents to help you open your own savings account at the credit union. Keep track of how much money you put in and take out. That way you can see how close you are to meeting your savings goal.

- If you’re saving up for something special, like a new bike or toy, hang a picture of it on the wall. This will remind you of your savings goal every day until you reach it.

Middle school: - Ask your parents if you can plan a family event, like a trip to the zoo or an afternoon at a waterpark. List all the things that will cost money—like tickets, food, and souvenirs. Set a budget, and encourage everyone to stick to it when the big day arrives.

- Make a list of things you want to spend your money on. Put the list in order, starting with the things you want the most. This will help you figure out what you really want to save up for.

High school: - Consider taking on a part-time job. Earning your own money can help you save for big goals, like car or college expenses.

- Talk to your parents about opening a checking account at the credit union. Learn how to use a debit card responsibly and track transactions. Those skills will come in handy when you leave home.

Your

Dormant Accounts!U$X Federal Credit Union is required to report Unclaimed Property (escheat) to the Pennsylvania and Ohio Department of Revenue for accounts that have been “dormant” for the last five years. An account is considered dormant if there have been no withdrawals, deposits or transfers made during this period. The best way to be safe is to WAKE UP your account by making a deposit and watching your U$X FCU accounts grow. A Great season for the U$X FCU Youth Basketball Team!!

U$X FCU board member, Jim Settelmaier was the coach for one of the Franklin Regional Athletic Association’s 3rd and 4th grade basketball teams for the 2013-14 season that included his son Josh. The U$X FCU sponsored team had an outstanding regular season and was the #1 seed going into the playoffs. Although the team’s effort was unmatched the team was outscored in the semi-finals. However, they finished the season as the team with the highest average number of scorers per game. Congratulations to Jim and the U$X FCU team on a great season!

IMPORTANT NOTICE

For the past 5 years, we’ve made significant efforts to provide the members of the Homestead area with the exceptional service they deserve from their credit union. Unfortunately, due to many factors, we have not been able to provide service that meets our high standards. For these reasons, U$X FCU will be closing the Homestead Branch effective April 30, 2014. However, members have the ability to continue their banking relationship with U$X FCU at our nearby Jefferson Regional Medical Center location or any one of our other branch locations.
