    11) Are there supplements I can take to rid mybody of toxins?

    1) What is the Importance of pH? pH (from potential of Hydrogen) the logarithmof the reciprocal of hydrogen-ion concentrationin gram atoms per liter; provides a measure ona scale from 0 to 14 of the acidity or alkalinityof a solution (where 7 is neutral and greater than 7 is more basic and less than 7 is moreacidic). The body is largely made up of water, a

medium which is biologically useful in allowingnutrients, oxygen and biochemical to betransported from place to place. This water-based medium can have either acid or alkalineproperties which are measured by a graduatedscale called pH (for potential hydrogen),wherein1.0 to 6.9 is considered acidic, 7.0 isneutral, and 7.1 to 14.0 is alkaline. The lower the pH number, the greater the acidity, and thehigher the pH number, the greater the alkalinity.Since most of the body is water-based (makingup 50-60% of our total body weight), the pHlevel has profound effects on all bodychemistry, health and disease. An imbalancedpH describes the pH level of the body when itbecomes too acidic or too alkaline for longperiods of time. Extended pH imbalances of any kind are not well tolerated by the body.Indeed, the management of pH is soimportant that the body has developed strictaccounting procedures to monitor acid-alkaline

balances in every cell. Fundamentally, allregulatory mechanisms (including breathing, circulation, digestion, hormonal production,

etc.) serve the purpose of balancing pH, byremoving caustic metabolized acid residuesfrom body tissues without damaging livingcells. If the pH deviates too far to the acid sideor too far to the alkaline side, cells becomepoisoned by their own toxic waste and die.Although it may generally go unnoticed andundetected for years, an imbalanced pH (either consistently too acid or alkaline) leads to theprogression of most, if not all, degenerativediseases including Cardiovascular Disease (the#1 killer in the U.S.), Cancer (the #2 Killer in theU.S.), and Diabetes, as well as the never endingfrustration of excessive systemic weight gain. The U.S. National Center for Health Statistics

estimates that if Cardiovascular Disease alonecould be eliminated, it would add an average of 9.78 years to our life span! Thats almost 10years of additional life per person! By: StanHeadley, M.D.2 What diseases are associated to low PH level? Research has proven that disease cannotsurvive in an alkaline state, however, viruses, bacteria, yeast, mold, fungus, Candida andCancer cells thrive in a low oxygen, / low pHenvironment. An acid pH can result from anacid forming diet, emotional stress, toxic

overload, and/or immune reactions or anyprocess that deprives the cells of oxygen andother nutrients. The body will try to

compensate for acid by using alkaline minerals, like sodium from the stomach and calcium fromthe bones. This is the cause of Osteoporosisand a number of other diseases. If there are notenough minerals in the diet to compensate, abuild up of acids in the cells will occur, resulting in symptoms like pain, Arthritis,Fibromyalgia, MS, Lupus, etc.3) What is the leading cause of death in theUnited States? A: 10 Leading Causes of Death in the U.S.Leading causes of death differ somewhat byage, sex, and race. Accidents were the leadingcause of death for those under 34 years, whilein older age groups, chronic diseases such ascancer and heart disease were the leadingcauses. The top two causes for males andfemalesheart disease and cancerareexactly the same. However, suicide ranked 8thfor males but was not ranked among the tenleading causes for females.

In 2000 well over a third of all deaths in theUnited States could be attributed to a limitednumber of largely preventable behaviors andexposures including smoking, poor diet andphysical inactivity and alcohol consumption.Changing these modifiable behaviors canincrease a persons life expectancy or longevityand prevent early deaths.1. Tobacco Use (Smoking)Tobacco use (smoking) resulted in 435,000deaths or 18.1% of the total deaths.

the food itself. For example, lemons are very acidic, however the end products they produce afterdigestion and assimilation are very alkaline so,

lemons are alkaline forming in the body. Likewise, meat will test alkaline before digestion, but it leavesvery acidic residue in the body so, like nearly allanimal products, meat is very acid forming.6) What do cancer victims have in common? A low PH and high acidity.7) Toxins and Your Health: An Introduction

We live in a toxic environment. There is nodenying the reality. You need only to turn onthe evening news or read the paper to realizehow many new health threats exist todaycompared to fifty, twenty, or even ten yearsago. We are now exposed to even moredamaging UV rays, even more industrialchemicals, even more preservatives in our

food, and even more pollutants in our air andwater.A direct result of the damage caused by theseexposures is an increased incidence of familiar chronic diseases, such as arthritis and autism, and newly-described diseases, such as chronicfatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. The list of

cancer causing chemicals is growing longer, asis the list of prescription pharmaceutical drugswe supposedly need in order to address all of the symptoms we are experiencing. This toxicdilemma is not limited to the United Statesitis a global problem. Consider the following:

    15/24

Approximately half a million (85,000 sinceWWII) new, and potentially toxic, industrialchemicals have become part of our global

environment, with the number increasingdaily. Studies indicate that up to half of all

municipal water supplies are contaminatedwith potentially harmful pollutants.

The World health Organization (WHO)recently released a warning about the

increasing dangers of worsening air pollution, particularly indoor toxinexposure, to public health.

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA and the Food and DrugAdministration (FDA) have both releasedwarnings recommending limited intake of fish by pregnant and nursing women, duethe toxic levels of mercury found in tuna, shark, swordfish, tilefish, and kingmackerel. These agencies state that thesemercury levels are known to cause fetalbrain damage.

In a recent study conducted by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), 10 percent of

women were found to have levels of mercury so high as to cause fetal braindamage.

Results of another recent studydemonstrated findings of over 200

industrial chemicals, some of which areknown to be carcinogenic in the cord bloodof newborns.

Some experts believe that approximately75 percent of all cancers may be linked toenvironmental toxins and are notgenetically based.

Evidence is building about the effects of our toxic environment on our long-term health andtoxins role in chronic diseases. Although

scientists have known for quite some time thatpollution and pesticides can adversely affecthuman health, mounting evidence reveals far more deadly connections between toxicexposure and a variety of diseases. The mostdisturbing discovery is that chronic exposureto even low levels of common toxins can havenegative health effects as toxins accumulateover time, damaging the neurological, immune, and endocrine systems. To complicate matters, many governments andhealth organizations do not seem to beaddressing this serious problem. Withoutaccountability and clean-up programs, the toxicexposure overload continues to spiral out of

control.Fortunately, there are ways to counteract thelong-term buildup of toxins in the body andreduce their negative effects on our health.Natural compounds do exist that can safely

bind and remove harmful toxins from the body. One group of such compoundscomprised of what we typically refer to as zeolitesincludes

some of the safest, most effective and naturaldetoxifying minerals known, and theseminerals are now available in a purified liquidform. It can target and safely remove toxicheavy metals, can balance the bodys pHlevels, and can bind viral sub-particles, and canimprove digestive function and allowing better absorption and assimilation of nutrients. The following are frequently asked questionsabout toxins, their effects, and what can bedone to minimize their damaging effects, including using detoxifying supplements suchas liquid zeolite.

What are toxins? Toxins are generally defined as anything in our environment with the potential to negativelyaffect the health and function of the body. These dangerous foreign substances can beconsumed through polluted food or water, breathed in through the air, or absorbedthrough the skin. They may be organicbiotoxins or inorganic toxins such aspoisonous chemicals and other toxic man-made substances. Ultimately, all toxins take aserous toll on our health and can even causecancer. The damage can result quickly fromexposure to a large or very concentrated

dangerous toxin, but more often, it results froma gradual accumulation of smaller amounts of less-potent toxins from a variety of sources,

often referred to as chronic toxic overload.

    9) What are the most common sources of toxins? Toxins are found in the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the food we eat. We come incontact with them in the form of pesticides, herbicides, food additives and preservatives, smog, car exhaust, household chemicals, andeven certain compounds in hygiene and beautyproducts. Vaccines and prescription drugsmay also have toxic side effects. Perhaps moretroubling than the sources of these toxins isthe prevalence of toxins. We now come incontact with more toxins than ever before. It is

estimated that we are exposed to more than100,000 toxins in our environment, a quarter of which are known to cause cancer. In one year alone, the IPA estimated that 1.9 billion poundsof chemicals ended up in our water supplies, and 2.4 billion were released into theatmosphere.Meanwhile, the national Research Council(NRC) recently estimated that a shocking70,000 commercially-used chemicals have noteven been tested for toxic effects. Thisconstant bombardment puts out body in a stateof chronic toxic overload, which puts us at risk

Several breast cancer advocacy groups arealso making connections between breastcancer and environmental toxins, even drawing

parallels between the increased risks for developing breast cancer (one in seven) andthe incredible surge in toxic exposure, especially from estrogen-mimetic pesticides, inour environment.Research suggests that thousands of syntheticchemicals may have the ability to impair hormone function and interfere with the healthof the body on a genetic level. Householdcleaning supplies, health and beauty products, pesticides, and even drugs and x-rays have allbeen implicated in this increased danger. Onestudy found that chronic condition in womencalled endometriosis may be linked to a toxincalled dioxin.

    11) What can I do to combat toxic overload? Perhaps most important is the role of nutritional supplements in relieving the stressof toxic overload. Supplements are importantbecause, although we can reduce our exposureto dangerous toxins, we cannot eliminateexposure completely but we can help maintainhealthy lifestyle and environment. There are many things we can do to reduce our exposure to environmental toxins and tominimize their presence in and effect on thebody. Drinking purified filtered water instead of tap water is an excellent start in decreasing

your exposure to excessive fluoride, chlorineand toxic heavy metals such as mercury, arsenic and lead. Dietary changes, such as

limiting consumption of prepared andpackaged foods while emphasizing wholenatural foods, are helpful. Not smoking and limited alcohol consumption(one glass of organic red wine or beer daily) arealso important. Smoking cigarettes anddrinking alcoholic beverages increase thebodys toxic exposure. Another helpful practicein reducing your exposure to environmentalpollution is using natural health and beautyproducts and non-toxic household cleaners. Inaddition, it is a good idea to take prescriptionor over-the-counter medications only whenabsolutely necessary. There fore, we need to be able to do something toremove existing toxic buildup from our bodies.Integrative medicine, complementary, alternativeand natural health practitioners know theimportance of regular detoxification to promoteoptimal health.Detoxification protocols are often the hallmarkof these healthcare professionals because they

recognize that addressing toxicity and theassociated damage is critical for symptomalleviation and disease prevention. Naturallydetoxifying supplements can help to safelyeliminate toxins that have accumulated in thebody and help prevent toxic overload.
