SETTLED PASTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE

from Carl Van Slyke At the October Board meeting we decided to wait until after the holiday season to move forward with the search process. This was done for several reasons. First the Stewardship Campaign has started and continues through mid-November. We need to know what our financial situation will be for 2013 be-fore moving forward. This is important so that we can offer a realistic salary package to the new pastor. Second we have some exciting activities planned during November and December that we hope will build enthusiasm and our numbers. We do not want to detract from these efforts. When we do get started with the search proc-ess we will have a poster display to keep you in-formed of our progress. You as individuals and as a congregation will be involved in that process. The committee will be meeting frequently from that time forward. I have several nominations of folks to serve

on the committee. If you are interested is serving

please let me know.

NEW “LUNCH BUNCH” GROUP (Formerly King’s Daughters)

The newly formed “Lunch Bunch” will gather for their monthly meeting on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 1:00 pm at Sizzler. Everyone is welcome for a no host lunch and great conversation. They will meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month, so mark your calendars. Contact Pat Robb.

2013 BUDGET REQUESTS DUE

NOVEMBER 11, 2012 All committees that have a line item in the Wright Church budget need to have your 2013 requests sub-mitted to Treasurer, Janice Aagaard on or before Sunday, November 11. Our budget committee will be hard at work to prepare the proposed 2013 budget for presentation at our Novem-ber 25 Annual meeting.

WRIGHT ONES –SINGLES GROUP We are the busy “ones” and having a great time. On Saturday, Oct 27 we had a ghoulish time at our An-nual Halloween Party at Carol Rivers home. You haven’t lived until you’ve eaten barbequed worms! Nov. 21 we will attend the Festival of Trees at 4:00 pm. Cost is $2.00 (senior day). Then have dinner. Nov. 30 meet at El Giro Gallo in Kuna at 5:30pm for dinner then to the Meridian Symphony Christmas Celebration. In December we will visit the T.C. Bird Planetarium. Date to be announced. The Basque din-ner at the Triangle Inn in Sweet, Idaho has been post-poned until after the holidays. In January 2013 we will have fun at the home of Ethel Farnsworth.

COMMUNITY SUPPER I want to thank all my faithful helpers that have been with me the last 10 years with the community supper. We have

had a wonderful time, some sad but mostly a lot of happy fun. We’ve gone from having 35 people the first dinner (most of them helpers) to the most (110), to 90 people, just last Thursday with 4 of my most faithful (octogenarian) helpers getting the food served to all these families and individuals. I do believe we have received more than we have given. We, as members of this congregation pledged to give it, among other things, our support, our prayers, our time, and our talents. Jesus teaches us to serve God, and our fel-low man. We will not be doing the dinner for November and December, but, we do need to decide as a congrega-tion if we are going to continue on in the following year. We not only need money support that is not in-cluded in the church general fund, but physical sup-port, (under the age of 75) helpers in the kitchen, serving, cleanup and a minister or other adult, at the door to great people and possibly help them with any concerns or questions they might have. It would nice to have at least two more people to cook. Laura Shockley has graciously offered to help from time to time but it would be nice to have two more people we could depend on to share this great experience!

This event is truly a blessing from our side of the coin and also for the people who come to the dinners. I do not see this continuing on if we do not get the support, physical and monetary.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me this opportunity to do something for my God and com-munity. With Love, Linda Baxter

MESSAGE FROM CYNTHIA

We start Sunday worship in November with the story of Moses and the Israelites in the wilderness just days after escaping from Pharaoh's army (Exodus 16 and 17). Eve-ryone is doing what they do best, complaining. First they grumble about the water supply, then they grouse about food, then they mutter something about the good old days in Egypt. The people complain to Moses and Moses com-plains to God.

Spoiler alert: while Moses and the people complain, God listens patiently and responds by doing what God does best. God provides. If there are two things that our God is really good at it is giving and forgiving.

All the evidence of the Bible and our lives is that God de-lights in giving. For Moses and the people, Yahweh (Jehovah) brings water out of the rocks and sets the de-sert landscape with a lavish feast of manna and quail. For us at Wright Church, God creates fellowship, a sense of purpose, and a community of caring.

I have to wonder if God ever is seized by the thought that can control us, what if I don't have enough? Enough pa-tience, enough power, enough love, enough courage, enough of whatever it is I need to sustain me and keep me safe? If God made that calculation in the moments before Creation the decision seems to have been that it would be okay.

I hope that you can make the same decision as you look towards deciding upon a pledge to Wright church. We are faced by some simple economic realities as a church that we need to address. However, more importantly, each of us is faced with making a decision about how we choose to give. Shall it be with a glad heart and a lavish hand? With the encouragement of God’s extravagant love for us, we can respond with a gift in which we can delight.

With every hope for your joy, Cynthia

Notes from the Board

We welcome the change of our seasons. Just as the heat of summer begins to grow tiresome, the chill of autumn brings relief. Fall brings the promise of the harvest, and Thanksgiving. Yet the fall portends the coming winter. In the dark of winter the seed awaits the warmth of spring. Change is constant and continual, so it is with our Church, and so it is with our lives. Yet within the change, our faith in God and his plans for our future is steadfast. Knowing God has a plan for us, we conducted the business of our Church.

We are now well into our stewardship drive. Perhaps nothing demonstrates our faith more than pledging to the Church of our future income. Income we have yet to re-ceive but have faith we will. Please prayerfully consider your pledge. We base our Churches’ budget on our an-ticipated income and our combined pledges are the major component of our income. “God loves it when the giver delights in giving”.

Your Church has been very active. We have been learn-ing lessons of the Old Testament. We have been provid-ing community outreach. We have been supporting each other. We have been serving our Lord.

If these few words reach you, but you have not recently been able to attend worship service, please know you are welcome and loved at Wright. Yes, Wright Church has changed and is continuing to change. We want you to be part of the new excitement at Wright.

Respectfully Submitted,

Will Patterson, Board Chair

NEXT MEETING

IDAHO ASSOCIATION NEWS Our annual Idaho Association meeting was held in Pendleton, Oregon, on Sept. 28, 2012. There were delegates at-tending from eight of the nine churches within the Idaho Conference. The meeting was held in the Pendleton Conven-tion Center. The revised version of the new Bylaws was passed as presented.

We also added the position of Treasurer to the Idaho Association Board. Kay Stauff, from our Payette Church was elected to the new Treasurer’s position. Our Articles of Incorporation were amended to add the position of Treasurer. Chi Morgan, from the Nampa Church, took over as the Moderator for the Idaho Association. His term is for two years. Norm Wright from our Pocatello church was elected as the Moderator-elect.

We were able to add four new members to the High Horizons board. They are Ken Feaster-Eytchison from Nampa, Jim Smart from Boise First, Harvey Haskell from Nampa, and Jeff Howe from New Plymouth. We also added three new members to the Pilgrim Cove Board. They are Paul Barna from Boise First, Chi Morgan from Nampa, and Steve Feaster-Eytchison from Nampa. These new additions bring the Pilgrim Cove Board up to 15 members, which is the first time in a long time that we will have a full board.

Corliss March, the Moderator of the Central Pacific Conference and Walter John Boris, our Conference Minister, also attended the meeting. Jack Wenske-Past Moderator - for more info see page on Pilgrim Cove
