Page 6 Wednesday, December 5, 2018 Moody County Enterprise Since 1878 Flandreau Flier Winter 2018-19 Sports Preview The Flandreau wrestling squad returns a pair of state tournament qualifiers and will depend on its experienced team members dur- ing the 2018-19 season. “We will be able to fill out most of the lower weight classes and the two upper weights,” said first-year head coach Derek Gen- zlinger. “We have some quality wrestlers in our upper grades and I expect them to make high con- tributions this year.” Junior Hunter Witte made it to state at 113 pounds a year ago, while freshman Caleb Dietrich was a qualifier at 106. “We are extremely young, with most of our team being junior high kids,” added Gen- zlinger. “Having only one junior and one sophomore (Braden Pe- ters at 285) on the team will make it hard to compete in duals and tournaments.” The Fliers went 7-10 in duals last season and finished with four state qualifiers. Flandreau graduated Michael Witte (third place at 145), Bren- dan Ten Eyck and Preston Keith. “This will be a rebuilding year team wise for us, so the develop- ment of our athletes will be huge throughout the year,” noted Gen- zlinger. “More than half of our team is junior high wrestlers or first-year wrestlers, so one of our main goals is to retain those kids to keep building the program.
