WORLD STANDARDS DAY CELEBRATIONS
Chandigarh, 14th October, 2016: The World Standards Day was celebrated by
Bureau of Indian Standards, Northern Regional Office, Chandigarh today.
Celebrated worldwide as the Foundation Day of the International Organization
for Standardization (ISO), a seminar was organized on the occasion, which was
inaugurated by His Excellency, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor of
Haryana.
In his inaugural address His Excellency, Prof. Solanki said that the theme of this
year's celebrations "Standards Build Trust" indeed is very apt since it truly
coincides with the principles and concepts of Standardization. He said that
Bureau of Indian Standards has been established for harmonious development
of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods
and for related matters and thus building the trust. With trust, businesses and
consumers embark on a lifelong journey towards solutions that will meet their
mutual expectations – productivity, performance and quality of life.
Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to Administrator U.T. Chandigarh, in his keynote
address praised the work carried out by BIS and highlighted the importance of
International Standards and their pivotal role in promoting commercial,
scientific and technological exchanges among the countries of the world. As
more people connect through technologies, and global businesses continue to
adopt methods to increase efficiency and streamline operations, Standards
remain an integral part of the process.
Sh. M.V.S.D. Prasada Rao, Deputy Director General, Nortern Regional Office,
Bureau of Indian Stnadards (BIS), in his welcome address extended hearty
welcome to the chief guest and the delegates. Sh. Rao in his welcome address
said that every year on 14 October world standards this day is celebrated to pay
tribute to the efforts of thousands of experts world over who colloborate with
International Organization for Standardazation (ISO), International Electro
Technical Commission (IEC) and International Telecom Union (ITU).
The technical seminar organised by BIS was chaired by Prof. Kapil Setia, Chief
Architect, Chandigarh. Sh. Setia conducted the technical session in which
presentation were made by Sh. Sukhwinder Singh, Head Quality, Danone
Nutricia, SAS Nagar Punjab, Sh. Sandeep Srivastava, Kalinga Cables & Conduit
Co. Sonipat Haryana & Sh. D. P. Singh Plant Head, Ardison Associate, Mohali
Punjab.
The programme was attended by industry, BIS licences, Consumer
Organization etc.
