Men and women carry out different roles in society because this is what they are taught to do. Young girls help their mothers with housework, while boys spend time with their fathers. In this way, boys and girls learn to ‘conform’ to the stereotypes…

What’s Changed?1. 1882 - Married women property act

allowed for the first time to claim ownership of their possessions and salary.

2. 1928 – Equal votes act

Women over the age of 21 allowed to vote

3. 1970 - Equal Pay Act

Women should get the same pay for the same job.

4. 1975 - Sex Discrimination Act

makes it illegal not to hire someone due to gender.

5. 1996 - Employment Rights Act

made it unfair to dismiss a woman for being pregnant or taking maternity leave.

6. 2001 – Paternity act

Men can claim 2 weeks of paternity leave after their child is born.
