More than ever before, women are entering banking with full force, making their voices heard and creating an impact in the industry. 87% of Holy Cross alumni work in business roles proving that a liberal arts education is an excellent foundation for successful business careers. Diane Vazza ’79, a Classics and French double major with 30 years of experience in finance, demonstrates that the ratio can be changed in a traditionally male dominated industry.

Diane Vazza ’79Managing Director, Head of Global Fixed Income Research, S&P Global Ratings

As Chair of the firm’s Ratings Performance Research Governance Council, Diane leads analyses, forecasts and research on global credit market trends and her views are widely quoted in leading financial media outlets across the world. She has more than 30 years experience working in the capital markets, including rating agency, regulatory, trading, credit and banking- at Drexel Burnham Lambert, Citibank, and Chase Bank.

Credit Magazine named Diane one of the top 50 women across the globe in credit and fixed income. She has traveled to over 100 countries. She is past President of the Fixed Income

Analysts’ Society (FIASI), Chaired FIASI’s Inaugural 2015 Women in Fixed Income Conference (WiFI) and 2016 WiFI Boston Conference and sits on FIASI’s Board of Directors.

Diane is a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and volunteers for 911 Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ambulance rescue squad. She holds a BA degree in both Classics (Latin and Ancient Greek) and French from College of the Holy Cross. She graduated from Girls’ Latin School in Boston.

Melisa Alves ’06Assistant Director, Center for Career Development, College of the Holy Cross

Melisa was born in New York, NY and moved to Worcester, MA at a young age. As a first generation college graduate, she received a Bachelor of Arts from the College of the Holy Cross and a Masters of Education in Student Personnel Administration from Springfield College. Currently she is an Assistant Director in the Center for Career Development at the College of the Holy Cross. Her experience includes eight years in higher education in areas including Residence Life, Multicultural Education and Career Services where she

has facilitated numerous mentoring and shadowing programs. Melisa has a passion for leadership development, mentoring and working with students from underrepresented backgrounds. She currently resides with her husband and two dogs in Spencer, MA.

Katie Corrigan ’17Student, College of the Holy Cross

Katie is a senior accounting major. On campus she participates in Habitat for Humanity and works as a Kimball captain. This past summer she interned at PwC Boston in their assurance department and spent time working on retail and health industry clients. She will begin working full time next fall.

Evan Grogan ’17Student, College of the Holy Cross

Evan is a senior double majoring in English and Art History. She is the Co-Founder, Editor-in-Chief, and Vice-President of the Her Campus College of the Holy Cross chapter; a copy editor and reporter for The Crusader; a contributing writer for the Spoon University College of the Holy Cross chapter; and a tutor at Pernet Youth Group. This past summer she worked in Manhattan at the Winter Antiques Show and The American Art Fair as a communications and marketing intern, and she is interested in pursuing museum studies and journalism after graduation.

Jamie Tomc ’07Commercial Loan Officer, Assistant VP, Boston Private

Jamie started her banking career after finding an opportunity through Holy Cross’s Crusader Connections, where she was selected to participate in a Leadership Development Program at Enterprise Bank. She worked as a Branch Service Manager there for five years, where she developed a new branch, hired a new team, and grew the office’s market share. She eventually made the jump to commercial lending, working as a senior credit analyst and portfolio manager.  She now works at Boston Private as a commercial lender, with a focus on commercial real estate and community reinvestment lending.  

Jamie grew up in Middletown, CT. She graduated with a B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross and an MBA from Boston University.  Jamie recently moved from Boston to Manhattan where she lives with her fiancé Rob and French bulldog Sophie. She loves running, exploring new museums, and trying new restaurants with her Holy Cross friends.

From Cool Beans to CorporateDESCRIPTION: The four years of college life are vital to our emotional and intellectual development. However, the etiquette of undergraduate life is quite different from that of the professional world into which most students will enter after graduation. Join our discussion about the business careers of recent Holy Cross women who are applying their talents in the world of business. The speakers will provide important pointers on how to prepare for a successful transition from college to the professional world, including changing cities and managing personal finances.

Laura Beglane ’10Compliance Operations Manager, GE Corporate

Laura graduated Holy Cross in 2010 with a major in economics-accounting and an Asian studies concentration. While at Holy Cross, Laura was involved in campus ministry, SPUD, and was the president of the Jesuit Honors Society, Alpha Sigma Nu. She also spent her junior year abroad rowing and playing soccer for her college at Oxford University. Following graduation, she joined the GE Capital Financial Management program where she spent time working at GE Real Estate, GE Treasury, and Restructuring Operations. After completing the Financial Management Program she spent three years

on the GE Corporate Audit Staff where she graduated as an Audit Manager. During this period she worked on financial audits, operational projects, and two business integrations across multiple GE locations around the world. Laura is currently a Compliance Operations Leader for GE Corporate leading the digital strategy for the global compliance organization.

Angela Chaisson ’15Tax Analyst, Oil & Gas, GE

Angela graduated with an economics major and a peace & conflicts concentration. During her time at HC, Angela was a tutor in the Econ workshop, participated in SPUD volunteering at Quinsigamond Elementary School and spent a semester in Washington, DC for the Washington Semester Program. After her freshman year, Angela participated in GE’s Freshman Finance Discovery Program, which was a week-long immersion into Corporate Finance in Norwalk, CT. She was then an FMP intern for two summers. During her first summer, she interned at GE Capital Aviation Services and spent

her second summer at Capital HQ. Angela accepted a full-time position in the Energy FMP program and began in Schenectady, NY after graduation. Angela’s first two rotations were spent in the Renewable Onshore Wind Business as an FP&A and then Supply Chain Analyst. Angela is currently in her 3rd rotation, working in Billerica, MA as a tax analyst for Oil & Gas Digital Solutions.

Sarah Medina ’14Analyst - Renewable Underwriting, GE

Sarah graduated from Holy Cross in 2014 and double majored in math and spanish. During her time at HC, Sarah participated in Cures for Kids, SPUD (Plumley Village) and was a big sister for the Big Brother Big Sister chapter of Worcester. Sarah also studied abroad for 6 months during the fall semester of 2012 in La Coruña, Spain. After her sophomore and junior years, Sarah was a FMP intern at GE Capital.

During her first summer, she interned with the Capital Markets COE, and her second summer split between the

Bank Loan Group and Sponsor businesses. After these two internships, Sarah accepted the offer to join the GE Capital FMP program post-graduation. Sarah’s four rotations were as a Productivity Analyst at Equipment Finance HQ, Equity Portfolio FP&A Analyst at Energy Financial Services (EFS), Debt Portfolio FP&A Analyst at EFS, and Internal Reporting Analyst at Capital HQ. The Equipment Finance rotation was in Irving, TX, and the last three were in Stamford and Norwalk, CT. Sarah graduated FMP in July 2016 and is currently working full time at EFS as a Renewables Underwriting Analyst within the risk function.

Work Experience vs. Grad School: What’s the Next Step?DESCRIPTION: When is the right time and what should you look for in an advanced degree program? How do you pay for it? And perhaps most importantly, how does the advanced degree change your professional trajectory? Hear from Holy Cross alumnae about how and why they made the decision to pursue work experience or enter graduate school after graduation. The panelists will share their personal experiences and insights, and offer advice on how to be a successful candidate for a competitive graduate program.

Nicole Fealey ’02Director of HR, Grace Farms Foundation

Nicole will begin a new role as the Director of HR for Grace Farms Foundation and was formerly the Director, People Operations & Performance of Birchbox, the discovery commerce company changing the way women and men shop for beauty, grooming and lifestyle products. Through its multi-channel platform, the Birchbox experience features personalized sampling, informative editorial content and a hand-picked online store. In her role, Nicole leads complimentary teams under the People & Culture umbrella. These teams service both the physical infrastructure of Birchbox operations (facilities

maintenance & amp; budgeting, cultural & internal events, and administrative services) as well as human resources administration: payroll, benefits, compliance reporting, performance management, learning, development, and internal communications. Her team’s goal is to ensure that all Birchbox team members have a holistic environment in which to thrive and focus on how best to serve our consumers.

Prior to Birchbox, Nicole served in a similar capacity at the Electric Sheep Company, a startup focused on virtual reality platforms and at The Sales Athlete, a boutique retained search firm focused on executive level media sales. Nicole completed her BA in English from the College of the Holy Cross, her Master’s in Communication from NYIT, and holds her SHRM-CP. She lives in Stamford, CT with her husband and 2 children.

Katie Fink ’03Vice President of Site Management, Planning & Creative, TJMaxx.com

Katie Fink started at the TJX Companies in 2004, holding a variety of Planning and Buying positions at MarMaxx and TK Maxx. As Vice President of Site Management, Planning and Creative for TJMaxx.com, she engages an entrepreneurial spirit and big-picture thinking.

Prior to joining eCommerce, Katie expatriated to Düsseldorf, Germany as a Merchandise Director. Katie found it incredibly rewarding as her team learned to embrace the off-price business model. During this two-year assignment, the team opened 80 stores between

Germany and Poland!

Katie is motivated to develop high-potential employees and attract other talented individuals for her team. She advocates for her team, pushes people to take risks and is known for giving feedback that is direct, honest and effective, which helps her employees succeed.

Katie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from College of the Holy Cross and a Master’s in Business Administration from Babson College. She completed internships with Staples, The White House and the Massachusetts Governor’s Office. Katie earned a First Runner-up in the Douglass Foundation Graduate Business Plan competition while at Babson.

Christine Kettmer ’03Sr. Director, Consumer Insights Advisory Services, Marriott International

Christine supports the development of consumer needs and synthesizing research insights into usable and actionable steps for The Americas, the largest continent within Marriott International’s portfolio of over 4,400 hotels.

Prior to Marriott International, Christine worked in brand management at Johnson & Johnson in their Consumer division on the JOHNSON’S® Baby and AVEENO® Body Care teams, responsible for marketing and forecasting brands valued at $285MM. She also held

public relations and marketing positions at Hager Sharp, Inc. in Washington, DC, and served as the Communications Coordinator for Franciscans International in Geneva, Switzerland.

Christine holds an MBA from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University with concentrations in marketing and social entrepreneurship and a certificate in Health Sector Management. She received a BA from The College of the Holy Cross, where she majored in English and Spanish.

Launching Your CareerDESCRIPTION: Finding your first job is the toughest job search you will ever have. Third- and fourth-year students are invited to join a review of all the basics of career coaching and to learn the best and right way to get things done. Establishing a direction, resume preparation, job interview do’s and don’ts, networking, and goal setting will be covered. Perhaps most importantly, you will learn how to get in front of the hiring managers...and it’s NOT via the internet.

Mary Donahue Quinlan ’76CEO, Career Prep Consultants

Mary launched Career Prep in November, 2007, having advised people about their careers for over 25 years.  Career Prep coaches recent college graduates and the rest of the job seeking population on how to get a job. Resume preparation, interviewing skills, networking techniques and establishing career direction are all part of Career Prep’s services. “Career Prep is the shortest distance between you and your next job.”

For the past ten years Mary served the Eastern Advertising Director of Cosmopolitan Magazine.

In this role she worked with clients in every major consumer category to develop Multi -Platform/Integrated Media packages that would increase her customer’s business. She has held sales management positions for over 20 years with several publications including The Wall Street Journal, Family Circle and Conde Nast Publications. Mary’s mantra is: “Clients will always find money for a killer idea.” She began her career in media at a major advertising agency. She recently retired from the industry to work full time pursuing her true passion at Career Prep Consultants.

Mary was in the first class of women at Holy Cross, and is quite proud of this accomplishment. She has been involved with Holy Cross since the day she graduated becoming the first woman to serve as President of the Holy Cross Club of New York, and the first female Chair of the Holy Cross Leadership Council of New York, which Mary co-founded. She lives in Montclair, NJ and derives her deepest joy from her husband Michael Quinlan, and their two children, Maggie Rose and Matthew.

Join and learn how you can leverage social media to create your personal brand, stay business appropriate on the internet, generate more impressions, and ultimately grow you and your company with the help of technology.

Micaela English ’08Digital & Social Media Expert

Micaela is a digital and social media expert in the lifestyle, travel, fashion, and beauty space. Most recently Micaela served as the Director of Social Media and Blog for retail company Anthropologie based in Philadelphia, PA. Before that she lived in NYC and worked in the digital media space, launching Town & Country Magazine’s website and social media. She has been published on Elle.com, HarpersBazaar.com, MarieClaire.com, and Esquire.com. Micaela is a self-declared social media nerd and loves that it is an industry that

is constantly evolving and changing. In her free time she loves to be active (spinning, yoga, barre classes), read (especially business books, her current favorite is Power Your Happy by Lisa Sugar), and spend time discovering new music (she claims Spotify has changed her life). Her personal life motto: “It is impossible for you to go on as you were before, so you must go on as you never have.” -Cheryl Strayed

Courtney Hakanson ’08Director of Content Strategy, Social Media, Marriot International

Courtney Hakanson is an independent Social Media Luxury/Lifestyle consultant and Director of Content Strategy for Marriott International. Former clients include Carolina Herrera, CFDA, David Yurman, Michelin Guides, Pepperidge Farms, and Seventh Generation. She holds a certificate in pâtisserie from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and lives in Philadelphia (but will be relocating to Boston, July 2017!) with her husband.

Jessica Morrison ’99Social Media Strategist, Trainer & Consultant, Seaside Social Media

Jessica is a social media strategist and digital influencer who specializes in helping businesses leverage social media in today’s marketing environment. She has worked with companies large and small, from Huggies to Prana to Stonyfield. Her passion is helping small businesses navigate the social media landscape—maximizing smaller budgets for maximum social media exposure.

In addition to working as a social media strategist, Jessica is a digital influencer in the health and wellness sector, through her national blog 30 Something Mother Runner.

Jessica holds a BA from The College of the Holy Cross, where she majored in Spanish, with a concentration in Latin American studies.

All A-Board! Joining a Corporate or Non-Profit BoardDESCRIPTION: Joining a board is a big commitment and often carries a lot of responsibility with it. Panelists will discuss what the job entails and what they have learned from their experience by organizing and being on a board.

Mary Moran ’77Financial Services Consultant and Contractor

Mary majored in economics at the College and received a Master of Science degree in accounting from Northeastern University. She worked as a certified public accountant for Peat Marwick & Co., before becoming senior vice president of Boston Sand & Gravel Co. A member of the 1843 Society, Moran is also an admissions advisor, a career counselor, an alumni job network advisor and a member of the President’s Council. In 2002, she established the F. Grant Waite and Mary Coffey Moran ’77 Merit Scholarship at the College with

a gift of $500,000. A member of the board of directors of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, Moran is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Financial Executive’s Institute and The Treasurer’s Club. She resides in Andover, Mass.

Janet Rivard ’84President, Peerless Financial Solutions Inc.

Janet Rivard has been helping non-profits improve their financial situations for over 20 years by providing them with sound financial management. Before starting Peerless Financial Solutions in 2004, Janet was the Finance Director for the YWCA of Central Massachusetts for 11 years. She has also worked in the for- profit sector as an accounting manager and financial analyst as well as a commercial banker. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester and her Master’s of Business

Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of New Hampshire.

The philosophy of Peerless Financial Solutions Inc. is to provide management and Board of Directors of its clients with timely and accurate financial information with which to make decisions about the direction of its business. In addition to information vital to decision making, Peerless adds value to its client relationships by acting as the company’s Chief Financial Officer.

In this capacity, Peerless can prepare budgets for management and funders, prepare the records of the organization in advance of external audits, investigate and analyze the financial impact of strategic directions management and/or Board of Directors is considering for the organization, and negotiate banking, auditing and insurance contracts and relationships.

Kim Stone ’90Litigation Attorney, Counsel on Call

Kimberly Stone is an attorney living in Worcester, MA. Since 2010, Ms. Stone has practiced as an independent contractor through Counsel on Call, serving as a litigation attorney in the legal department of Fidelity Investments in its offices in Boston and Smithfield, RI. She is part of the Customer Litigation and Arbitration Group, focusing on disputes involving retail products in court, before FINRA and in response to regulatory inquiry. Prior to 2010, Ms. Stone practiced for eleven years as a Senior Associate at the law firm of Bowditch

& Dewey out of its Worcester and Boston offices, with a focus on defense of financial industry and complex commercial disputes.

Ms. Stone graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester with a BA in political science and from Northeastern University School of Law in Boston with a J.D. She is admitted to the Massachusetts Bar and the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. She is currently serving as the Immediate Past President of the national Holy Cross Alumni Association (HCAA), and she has long served on the HCAA Executive Committee, as well as Strategic Planning, Mission Statement, Nominations, Book Prize, Spirituality, Dinner and Budget committees. She is a former President and Executive Officer of the Holy Cross Club of Worcester. She is a member of and a Vice Chair of the Advisory Board of Devereux Massachusetts (President 2019) and is an active supporter of the Nativity School of Worcester.

Since 2010, she has served as the Treasurer of the Norrback Avenue School PTO and was honored with the Thomas Jefferson Award for her service for the Worcester Public Schools. She is a past recipient of the “40 Under Forty” Award presented by Worcester Business Journal. She and her husband, Patrick R. Jones, are the parents of four children.

Jules Biolsi ’12Business Development Associate, Balyasny Asset Management (BAM

Jules is an Associate on the Business Development team at Balyasny Asset Management (BAM) in New York. BAM is a global asset management firm with $12.1bn AUM (as of 8/1/2016).  Jules joined Balyasny in June of 2015 from Macquarie Capital, where she was a Senior Associate in U.S. Institutional Equity Sales for close to three years. Jules also served as a Summer Analyst on Macqaurie’s sales team.  Jules graduated from The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA in 2012 with a BA in psychology.

Lisa LeBlanc ’14Analyst, Global Manager Selection, J.P. Morgan Private Bank

Lisa is responsible for Business Development and Fixed Income Passive Investment Research for the J.P. Morgan Global Wealth Management Manager Selection Team. In this role, she is responsible for investment due diligence on passive fixed income strategies (ETFs & Index Funds), and assists with strategic business initiatives for the team. Prior to this role, Lisa supported coverage of manager research of Municipal Fixed Income, Emerging Market Debt, Money Market, Preferred Security and Convertible Security managers on the J.P. Morgan

Global Wealth Management Manager Selection Team. Lisa joined the firm in 2014. She holds Series 7 and 63 licenses, as well as a degree in mathematics and economics from the College of the Holy Cross.

Elizabeth Quaglieri ’11Corporate Communications Manager, TD Bank

Elizabeth Quaglieri joined TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank® in February 2016 as the Corporate Communications Manager for Human Resources. Prior to joining TD Bank, she was the Chief Operating Officer at Maine Media Collective in Portland, Maine, a multi-media, branding and visual arts management firm. Quaglieri majored in in art history and Spanish and graduated Holy Cross Summa cum Laude. She then earned a Master of Arts Management from Heinz College of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie

Mellon University and a Master of Science in Cultural Economics from the School of Economics at the University of Bologna. She is a 2011 alumna of the College of the Holy Cross. Quaglieri resides in Portland, Maine.
