  • 4Wilton Manors: The Gold Coasts Island CityWilton Manors is located in Broward County, Florida, part of the MiamiFort LauderdaleWest Palm Beach Metropolitan Area, which is home to 5,564,635 people (2010 U.S. Census). The citys boundaries follow the North and South forks of the Middle River, which gives Wilton Manors its nickname, the Island City.

    Located just minutes from downtown Fort Lauderdale and South Floridas white sandy beaches, Wilton Manors is a progressive place to live, work, relax, and play.

    A large percentage of the citys permanent and visitor populations identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT), and Wilton Manors is home to the Pride Center of South Florida, the World AIDS Museum and Educational Center, and a satellite branch of the Stonewall Library and Archives.

    Wilton Manors business district is largely centered on the citys internationally-recognized main thoroughfare, Wilton Drive, which boasts a vibrant, thriving, and broad-based variety of restaurants, retail stores, boutique shops, bars, nightclubs, and professional offices. Because its a global destination for tourists as well as the locals, many choose to live within walking distance of the Drive.

    Each year, the City of Wilton Manors hosts a number of special events and street festivals that celebrate the diversity of the Island City. These events promote community awareness and highlight the multiplicity of cultural elements that make Wilton Manors a melting pot of diversity.     The annual buying power of the LGBT community is estimated at over $800 billion. The numbers tell the story about LGBT consumers and their spending power, compared with the average American household:

    23% higher median household income1

    LGBT households make 10% more shopping trips per year than the average U.S. household4

    Nielsen found that LGBT households buy more at checkout.4

    In aggregate, LGBT households spent an average of $4,135 at retail stores in 2014 7% more than non-LGBT households.4

    LGBT households have 23% higher median household income1

    LGBT households have 24% more equity in their homes.1

    With regards to individual LGBT consumers:

    26% of gay men say they will pay more for top quality brands2

    30% have taken a major vacation in the past year2

    40% bought a new smart phone in the past year2

    The numbers tell the story: From Apple to Wells Fargo, from Budweiser to Whole Foods, from Macys to McDonalds, the LGBT market is an immense, lucrative, and no-longer-untapped market.

  • 7LGBT Consumers: Green is a Rainbow ColorLGBT consumers are a valuable resource for word-of-mouth brand marketing. 64% of gay men, and 65% of gay women attest that when they find a brand they like, they are likely to make a point of telling their friends about it. Thats well above the average of all U.S. consumers.2 26% of gay men agree with the following statement: It is worth paying extra for top-of-the-line or cutting edge products. That number is considerably higher than the average Americans answer. Put simply: LGBT consumers are more likely to pay for quality brands and to influence others to use those brands, too.

    LGBT Shopping Habits Pay Off, In a Big Way

    When it comes to shopping for consumer packaged goods, same-sex households spend at rates similar to other U.S. households. However, same-sex households make 16% more shopping trips per year than the average household: 173 trips, compared to 149.3 This equates to about 25% more total spending for same-sex households. Male same-sex households shop nearly 30% more often than the average household. On average, thats $2,045 more per year spent on packaged goods in male same-sex households.3

    More shopping trips means more opportunities for contact with LGBT consumers to influence brand preferences and purchasing behaviors. This loyal group of motivated and moneyed consumers is ready to reward brands that speak to their needs.

    Gay Consumers and Finances

    Most sources indicate that LGBT consumers have more disposable income than other consumers. According to a 2012 survey by Prudential, LGBT consumers reported annual household incomes around $61,500, significantly higher than the national median of slightly over $50,000.1

    The survey reported that gays are more likely to have higher educations, to carry less debt, and to have more savings, and are less likely to be jobless, with an unemployment rate of nearly a point below the national percentage. Additionally, the survey noted that LGBT homeowners have significantly more equity in their homes, and are better set, financially, for retirement.1 On the other side of the equation, more and more general market consumers are expressing their support for LGBT issues, and holding brands accountable, as well.

From the Stonewall Parade and Street Festival, to the citys yearly Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony and Festival of Music, and the annual Wilton Manors Taste of the Island, partnering with WMEG is a strategic opportunity to showcase your brand to the LGBT community, with an international mix of locals and visitors that are concentrated during events in the citys two-square-miles.

    Part of the Miami/Fort Lauderdale/West Palm Beach Metro Area (home to 5,564,635 people, as of the 2010 U.S. Census), Wilton Manors is the year-round home to a sizable LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community. According to the 2010 Census, it is second only to Provincetown, Massachusetts for proportion of gay couples relative to total population (15%).

    WMEGs flagship event, the Stonewall Parade and Street Festival, has been held every year since 1998. This community-wide celebration draws 30,000 individuals and families each year. The parade, vendors, and live performances offer something for everyone, and the city is proud to host this celebration for 17 years.

    Wilton Manors Stonewall Parade and Street Festival commemorates the Stonewall Riots, which occurred on June 28, 1969, when members of New York Citys gay community staged a series of demonstrations to protest their treatment. Each year, LGBT communities across the nation hold celebrations and memorial events to commemorate the occasion.The length of the citys main thoroughfare, Wilton Drive, is transformed for the one-day event and becomes Stonewall Parade and Street Festival. A tapestry of color and sound, brimming with performers, participants, artists, activists, vendors, local service agencies and organizations, food and beverage trucks, stages, and attractions.

    Past headlining performers at Wilton Manors Stonewall Parade and Street Festival have included En Vogue, Maxine Nightingale, Crystal Waters, and singer Andy Bell from Erasure.

    Hospitality PartnershipsREST AREA PARTNERSHIPS $3,000

    Partnership to brand one of four (4) dedicated areas, sheltered from the sun and elements, and close to food and refreshments, where visitors to Wilton Manors Stonewall can take a break, rest, and enjoy a few minutes in a more private setting, with close proximity to each of the North, Mid-North, South, and Mid-South stages. Up to 25% of the Rest Area may be utilized for exhibitor items, marketing, and branding purposes. WMEG will provide least a 20x20 canopy, chairs, and tables.

    FOOD VENDOR PARTNERSHIP $2,000Wilton Manors Stonewalls Exclusive Food Vendor Partnership is a unique opportunity for a single brand to be highlighted at the event, with premium exhibit space, exclusive branding, and media promotion. There is a $400 cost per food location, with a five (5) location minimum. Partner is responsible for providing necessary permitting and comply with any/all municipal safe-food handling requirements.

    ALCOHOL BRAND PARTNERSHIP $5,000

    The Mayors Island City Gala is hosted by the Honorable Gary Resnick, Mayor of Wilton Manors, Thursday, on the eve of the two-day Wilton Manors Stonewall Parade and Street Festival. This is a unique opportunity to partner a memorable evening that attracts 300 attendees, and is an important element of an enduring community legacy.
