7/31/2019 Witnessing is Very Important
1/3
For a Beginner point of view Art of
Witnessing is very important. But Sadly thisis one of the most ignored topic in many
meditation camps and ashrams. If one
knows how to Witness thoughts, feelings
and moods then many of life problems don'teven arise and that person has a clarity
which is very much evident from his actions
and behavior.
Witnessing Thoughts is not difficult
provided one is sincere and regular in thepractice. Before discussing sutra's to
Witness thoughts, let's discuss some true
facts about our thoughts.
1.
No thought is ours. All thoughtcomes from outside. It is another
matter that we cling to thosethoughts or ideas and end up wasting
our life in pursuing them.
2. 99% of our thinking is repeated.Very rarely we think some thing
new.
3. Thinking can't be stopped. ButMeditation is one way to go beyond
thinking state.
4. Our thoughts are fed on our energyand that drain us. Less one thinks
more peaceful, calm and moreenergy one has.
How to Witness thoughts
1. Witnessing Thoughts means we don'tneed to identify with any thoughts.
By Identification I mean, when everany thought comes - Don't involve
yourself with it. Don't condemn it,Don't Judge it. Don't Analyze it and
Don't give your analysis on it. Just
let them come and Go.
2. Let the thoughts come. If you just letthem come then you will see theywill leave on their own. Your
attitude should be like that of a
person who is standing on a traffic
signal and seeing a vehicle comingand going. But if that person tries to
stop any vehicle then accident can
happen. Similarly if we try to stopthinking or we get involve with any
thought, then we have gone offtrack.
Just Stay Aloof from the thoughts. These thoughts and ideas are not
yours.
3. It's easier to witness/see the thoughtswhich are Good. But when ever any
negative or moralistic thought comeswe suddenly becomes involve "how
can such a thought come to me". It's
OK. Stay Calm, relaxation is very
important in Meditation. Learn theart to stay relax in day to day living.
4. Don't Choose Thoughts or Dividethem. e.g. This is a Good thought
and that is Bad thought. Understand
that All are thoughts and they have
come on their own and they willleave on their own. Your
involvement with the thoughts arenot required and not essential.
5. If you identify with a thought andyou realize it then Immediately starts
witnessing them again. Don't repent
or blame yourself. Blaming needs
your involvement via anotherthought process.
6. Be Regular in your practice. It maysound like a Buddhist teachings. But
more one watches the Thoughts, better he becomes in the art of
Witnessing. Osho has said "To
become more aware, One has to
become more Aware". Awareness

leads to Awareness. So be sincere
and practice it when ever you havetime.
7. If you stop interfering or involvingwith a particular type of thought then
slowly it will stop coming to you.
All depends upon your attitude. If one is
Sincere then it is not so difficult but it needscommitment from your end.

Let's say a thought comes to your
mind. You watch it, while watching
or immediately after this where tokeep mind? I generaly do it on breathor start watching the body e.g.
watching the mussels pain.

The fact that you ask youself,
"Where to keep the mind?" meansyou are still having thoughts,
otherwise you would not have
decided to transfer your attention to
the breath. In between thoughts, watch the space between them. And
when you get to watch the watcher
know that you have arrived.

I've been practicing this art of
witnessing for a while with mucheffort and it doesn't seem to be
working. I have 2 related problems:
1. when a thought arises I seem to be
completely in it and then i rememberto witness but then i'm actually
remembering not witnessing. 2. i
think the reason for my first problemthat i don't where to position myself
"mentally". Some people suggest
being an invisible witness outside ofmy body, or is the witness in my
head just like the thoughts are?
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you peace be with you.

Hi
No matter what happens never give
up and keep on witnessing.Sometimes it is not easy to witness
thoughts as the mind is too much
active.
But you have to notice the fact that
"the one knows that you have
become identified with thoughts isthe watcher.. stick with this watcher"
The more one practice witnessing, the more one becomes good in it.
It pays to be persistent in meditation.
I have wrote a article on witnessingat this link

I am an awakened person, i don'tpractice any meditation, but yes I am
a great follower of Osho's teachings,
once the emptiness arrives, thoughtsjust come and goes, they are like
clouds, i feel my whole being is just
floating, no sound affects me, very
calm and there is stillness, i feel asthough my head is empty, once the
ego goes out of mind, theneverything becomes easy, don't evenhave to meditate, no ego - no mind,
and no mind - no thoughts, its just
simple, but to arrive to emptiness;seek the truth
