Most of our classes are held at our studio in Eureka, a small coastal community centered amongst the towering redwoods of Northern California. We also have two classes in Boise, ID in June 2015 For Eureka classes, we provide transportation to and from the airport. Several motels and a variety of restaurants are located nearby. You will be responsible for making your own motel reservations. Upon acceptance, you will be sent a seminar packet that will include a list of motels, rates, phone numbers, list of students, etc. If you wish to take more than one class, a $100.00 deposit is required for each first choice class requested. Seminars close quickly, so please list a second or third choice if possible. All class openings will be filled on a first come, first served basis. If your chosen selections are full, we will place you on the waiting list and send your entire deposit back to you. Once accepted, deposit(s) are non-refundable. The balance of your seminar fee will be due two months prior to your class date. We realize how important certain classes and dates can be to you. Send the application in as fast as you can - and remember, if you are on the waiting list, there are always cancellations. The nearest airport is the Eureka/Arcata airport. The airport is located approximately 13 miles north of our studio in Eureka. NEW for 2015 - United Airlines has announced jet service to Eureka for all flights. United offers flights through San Francisco. If you would like to be picked up at the airport, we will arrange for “Door to Door” airport shuttle service to pick you up and take you to your hotel. We will also arrange for them to take you back to the airport for your departing flights. When your flight arrives, just tell them your name and that you are with Jo Sonja’s and you are on your way! Lastly, from all of us here, we appreciate the interest you have shown in our seminar program. Thank you for your suggestions and your support- we hope to see you in 2015! If you decide to try this type of class you will be receive a list of things to bring - but no explanation of what the objects are for until class begins. it is a part of the creative mystery as we work together to bring your own creativity into the process. This piece was done for my husband, Jerry, as a special gift. It was begun in a class that I took with Bobbie T and I am thrilled that many of you expressed an interest and asked if I would share my whimsical tribute.

The original for this piece was an antique find and isn’t available. However, we did find a reproduction milk can with the same specs that we are adapting the design to. The piece is about 15” tall and 8 1/2” in diameter. If you have a piece from your own “stash” please feel free to bring it as well.

Class Dates - 2015April 6 - 10 (Monday - Friday)July 20 - 24 (Monday - Friday)

Instructor: Jo Sonja Jansen MDA, VGMClass Fee: $525.00Class Fee Includes: Patterns, instructions, painting surface, all paints and mediums used during instruction.

The first study piece is a reproduction small chest decorated with Chip-pendale floral bouquets and birds. It is an intensive color study as well as technique study and ideas. The inside is a monochromatic contrast of small Chinoiserie scenes. The second piece is a relaxed floral painting on a faux finished back-ground that we think you’ll enjoy. Many of you have seen these florals on an armoire that Jo Sonja is painting in the studio. She’s adapting this technique to a tall cabinet. The contrast between the two pieces is great fun and hopefully will help you discover some new creative ideas.

SPARROWSIN THE SNOW

Class Date - 2015April 27 - May 1 (Monday - Friday)July 13 - 17 (Monday - Friday)

Instructor: Jo Sonja Jansen MDA, VGMlass Fee: $525.00Class Fee Includes: All project pieces, patterns and instructions, all paints and mediums used in class. A contemporary study inspired by the work of Courier and Ives. A number of small scenes decorate this lovely sleigh. The decoration includes small fruit arrangements as well as a stroke “stitchery” decoration on the inside surfaces. As always, different scenes are on each side and no surface will remain undecorated!

We had these beautiful sleighs done by Unique Woods before they closed, so these will be the only two classes that we will be able to hold. For those of you that re-member, the sleigh is fairly large and a striking decorative piece.

A collection of ideas reflecting the influence of past American decorative folk artists. The large tin coffee pot is decorated with the Prince of the backyard, a large rooster. The other side is stylized fruit and flowers. Lots of techniques and fun color ideas will be explored as we paint this piece.

The smaller Strawberry seed box shares a slightly different technique for our ever challenging and unique antiquing process. We are focusing on technique with this piece.

Peaceable Kingdom scenes by Edward Hicks inspired the small bentwood box giving us the opportunity to explore techniques for scene backgrounds on decorative objects.

Larry Picket has given us another beautiful variation of a traditional Norwegian piece, this coffee set with his unique vision of a creamer and sugar bowl. We’ve added a tray to make a complete decorative set. Painted with fun Os floral bouquets on a beautiful red background. We’ve added a tray to make a full collection of very distinctive pieces. There are varied background color options and that can be changed if you wish.
