Paper cannot be mistaken. They can be seized easily while building a bridge to the packaged product: consumers tend to perceive they buy something natural locally while also supporting the protection of our environment. Paper is made of renewable resources which do not compete with food products. With our intelligent composite solutions for lidding films and or bottom web as well as for flowpack films, the Wipak Group meets the rising demand for sustainable, efficient and functional packaging solutions.

3 Lidding films: composite solutions, peelable or with a reclosing system

3 Tray/bottom web: thermoforming composites

3 Flowpack: with or without window

3 All-in solutions: Paper in the lidding film and the bottom web

3 Customized windows integrated in the print image

Paper + plastics = Sustainable, innovative, unmistakable

How rigid should or may the paper be? How opaque is the paper? Is the print image correctly accentuated? How does the paper film composite behave when being processed on the plants? We help you to identify the ideal solution that meets all requirements in terms of haptic, optic and functionality.

Paper in the lidding film – a sustainable combi-nation. The paper/film compound can be equipped with peeling or reclosing functions. For a cheese package, Wipak has developed an easy opening and reclosing composite which has been precisely adjusted to the cheese and printed in high quality. Compared to the previously used package (APET-composite, 650 my), the amount of plastics has been reduced by 60 percent and the weight by about 45 percent. Renewable raw materials amount for about 35 percent.

Paper in the bottom web/forming web – depending on the version and the composite structure, the proportion of paper can be more than 50 percent. A draw depth of up to 2.5 centimeters can be achieved, depending on the package geometry.

FIFTy/FIFTy – BAG IN BOx

Paper in flowpack solutions – it consists of one half of paper and one half of plastics. This combi-nation represents an inlay package which reliably protects dry products such as muesli against the migration of mineral oil residues or mineral oil based printing inks in folded boxes. The package

consists of a thin high-barrier film and FSC-certified paper. Both layers are laminated without using any additives. Wipak exclusively uses with 100% fresh fiber. The UV-tight, printable pouch is suitable for sachet and bag-in-box type packages.

Paper in flowpack solutions – the paper can be applied all over, with individual windows or in stripes. The package offers ideal protection of the product, adapted to the food product.

The underlying function layer can be equipped with a barrier. The compound can be processed using all common packaging machines with identical productivity.

Easy opening

Individual windows offer new ways for the design of paper/ plastic composites. This is made possible by means of laser- based technology. Compared to conventional, mechanical punching technology, the desired shapes can be cut from the paper web with an extremely high precision. The benefits: flexible design and no additional hardware costs, e.g. for the production of punching tools. And the paper composites are usually produced without using any adhesives.

INDIVIDUAL WINDOW DESIGN

Which types of window are suitable for the production process, and which are not? This is a key question at the early stage of package development. Wipak provides customer support including printing technology consul-ting, development of sample packages and production of print samples.

Four our paper/plastic composites, the Wipak Group

use FSC-certified paper that has been sourced from

sustainable forestry.

International Food Standard, HACCP, or ISO – whenever it comes to quality and hygiene, we are geared to the most demanding international standards. A cornerstone of our work is the current food law – our experienced film analysts and quality assurance experts make sure that this is permanently observed.

We print on different paper grades, laminate them with or functional films and test them under production conditions using our own packaging systems. Our technical support staff will be glad to support you for your planned change-over to the new paper/plastic composites, helping you through the tests on your tools and machines.

The paper grades we use for food packaging do not include any recycled paper so that they are absolutely free of mineral oil. The paper has been sourced from sustainable forestry and it is certified according to FSC or PEFC.
