Winterton on Sea Parish Councillors and Clerk
wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
A snowy scene in Winterton Churchyard December 2011
CHAIRMAN’S CHRISTMAS COMMENTS
As we look back over the past year there have been many changes on the Parish
Council. Last May, at election time, six Parish Councillors left, some after many years
service. During the year we have welcomed three new people onto the Council, but we
still need others to join to make up our full quota of Parish Councillors. If anyone is
interested please speak to either our Clerk or myself. It would be good to have a full
Council in 2013. Now that December is here we not only have the Christmas tree on
the village green, but lights and other decorations are appearing on many homes, both
here and in surrounding villages. Christmas is a time when we not only gather together
as families but we also celebrate the birth of Jesus over 2000 years ago. As we sing
the familiar words of Christmas Carols let us remember the greatest gift of all in God
sending his son to be our Saviour. On behalf of myself, all the Councillors and our
Clerk I would like to thank you for your support over the past year and wish you a
Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year. Just a reminder that the Parish Council
will not be meeting in December so our next full Parish Council meeting will be on 17th
January 2013 in the Village Hall. Michael

CHRISTMAS SHOEBOXES The WI ladies, Busy Fingers and Church ladies and other friends in Winterton have collected gifts of toiletries, colouring crayons, books and knitted items to fill 67 boxes again this year for the Smile Organisation. They will be taken to an orphanage in Eastern Europe giving a child a gift who otherwise would get nothing. Judith Bewes would like to thank all those who contributed so wonderfully.
Bev + Jim Kay would like to say a huge thank you to all the Volunteers associated with the Winterton on Sea Lifeboat Restoration Group for all your hard work this year. The whole project could never have happened without you. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and are making a donation to the Fund in lieu of sending out Christmas cards this year. We now look forward to 2013 when we hope to see the Edward Birkbeck begin to “come back to life” and will be working towards providing her with a brand new home back in the Dunes where she belongs.
Richard and Anne Child wish all their neighbours, friends and acquaintances God's blessing as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Keith and Ayeshia would like to thank all the volunteers who have helped with the work so far to refurbish Duffles Pond. An additional Grant has been received from NCC to pay for the auger architectural survey which will be carried out as soon as conditions allow. There will be another Work Party on the weekend of 19th/20th January 2013 – why not come along and work off some of the festive season calories!
Do we have any expertise in the Village to help with the design, supply and construction of the proposed childrens’ Pond Dipping platform? If you think you could help please contact Keith (393975) or Ayeshia (394174).
A life is not just for Christmas
Community first responders want the people of Norfolk to bear broad shoulders this Winter and help them save
lives. Community First Responder (CFR) groups in Norfolk are urgently looking for new volunteers to help be a life
saver during what can be a difficult winter period for the most vulnerable. CFRs are volunteers, trained by the
ambulance service to attend emergency calls where they live or work and if they are nearby are sent to a potential
life-threatening emergency in the first vital minutes before the ambulance arrives. So people living outside an area in
which a group operates can still volunteer if they work in the vicinity. Responders help to stabilise and keep the
patient alive until the arrival of the more highly skilled ambulance crew, who are trained to undertake further life
saving techniques. Anyone between 18 and 80-years-old can volunteer, and the training just takes one day. Norfolk's
Community Partnership Manager Andrew Barlow said: “When someone collapses in cardiac arrest, their heart has
stopped beating regularly. If you care enough to get another heart started again – and help save a life – this is the
ultimate gift you can give this Christmas. The groups have a real feel of community togetherness about them. This is
particularly important at Christmas when many of your neighbours could be spending it by themselves."
