Dear Chicago-Area Contractor,

The Construction Education Institute® plays a vital role in offering our members an outstanding educational experience. We are pleased to once again present the Construction Education Institute® Winter/Spring 2017 Seminar Catalog.

The Essentials of Project Management Certificate Program (EPM), what has become our signature program, quickly sold out. We had such high demand for the program that the education leadership approved a second offering of the EPM to accommodate our members.

We are also planning a Construction Technology Showcase on April 7th, 2017 at the Pipe Fitters Training Center in Mokena, IL. As automation and technology continue to dominate our industry, we will continue to help contractors cope with these changes. There will be tech firms, consultants and even a display of the latest UA technology all set in a world class facility. Mark your calendars and watch for updates!

I would like to acknowledge and thank our construction industry partners for their continued support of our programming. They are:

•PlumbingContractorsAssociation(PCA)•PlumbingCouncilofChicago•SMACNAGreaterChicago•IllinoisEnvironmentalContractorsAssociation(IECA)•PipingEducationCouncil(PEC)•BuildersAssociation•WestSuburbanAssociation(WSA)

Don’t forget that this year’s MCAA Convention will be held at the Marriott Marquis in San Diego, from March 5-9, 2017. The programming is always outstanding and the event includes a variety of social activities as well.

As always, your comments are welcome and encouraged.

We continually strive to provide quality programs that meet or exceed your needs and those of your staff. Thank you for your continued and enthusiastic support of the Construction Education Institute®.

Don’t forget that there is a wealth of knowledge and information, including all of our webcasts, on our website at www.mca.org.

Sincerely,George EnglebrechtHayes Mechanical, Inc.MCA Education Committee Chair

OSHA Record Keeping and Electronic Filing Workshop (SFT 130) Friday, January 13, 20178 am – 11 amMCA Construction Education Institute® BurrRidge GaryGlader

This ain’t your grandpa’s OSHA Record Keeping workshop… OSHA Record Keeping is a subject that surfaces most often during the month of January when the logs are tallied and the OSHA 300A form is completed and posted by February 1. Employers were not required, unless speciically instructed, to provide this information to OSHA by mail or electronically. In May 2016, OSHA published a inal rule that will require most employers with more than 20 employees to ile their OSHA log information electronically. In the electronic age, this sounds logical and eficient, but the implications are huge. The agency will have real-time access to an employers’ injury data, which could be used to trigger an inspection. Worse, this data will be available to the general public and insurance companies. Accurately completing a log is now more important than ever. The information entered on the 2016 OSHA log will be required to be reported to OSHA by July 2017. Gary Glader from The Horton Group will explain the speciic requirements of the new law and, more importantly, how to complete your log accurately so mistakes don’t trigger an inspection, loss of business or diminished public relations.

Only 1 percent of the Earth’s water is available for human consumption – and the green building movement is working to conserve that vital, limited supply. MCA Chicago has prepared an

online course, “Water Eficiency and How It Relates to Green Building,” to inform member contractors about the importance of water conservation, as well as ways to improve water eficiency in a building project. The online course covers how different industries use water and provides an overview of national conservation initiatives. Upcoming technologies and emerging trends to conserve water are also discussed.
