A Message from the President:
Greetings Fellow NMSPE Members,
My name is Jasent Quintana and I’m honored to be serving as the 2015/2016 NMSPE Albuquerque chapter president. As a mechanical engineer for the past 8 years and a native New Mexican living in the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area for the last 15 years, I’ve come to deeply appreciate the history and the roles engineers have played in making this a wonderful state to live in. I’m currently employed at Intel Corporation and have held various roles in facilities engineering and management over the last 8 years. I hold a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from New Mexico Tech and a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico.
I’m excited to be part of such a great organization and working alongside with many bright and talent professionals! We’re all working diligently to bring exciting and engaging luncheon / E-Week speakers and topics that provide insight into the technical challenges and success at the local, state, and national levels. Please be sure to come out and show your support at these and other NMSPE-sponsored events!
NMSPE’s primary mission is to advance the public welfare and promote professional, social, and economic interests of the engineering profession. One of the greatest challenges our chapter has faced is attracting and retaining members; most notably from the academic and younger engineering communities. As chapter president, my primary goal is to continue to uphold these principles, increase current member engagement, and develop greater connections in these areas. I am humbly seeking everyone’s support in helping increase membership and spread our influence so our organization remains a viable support system for future engineers.
Thank you for your continued participation and helping make our organization one of the greatest in the state; I look forward to meeting many of you at future events!
Warmest Regards,
Jasent Quintana, EIT

An Update from the State Chapter of NMSPE:
The New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers (NMSPE State) has been very active. The Issues Conference held in November was a huge success. We had 137 attendees who listened to various topics affecting engineers around the state. From the drone panel discussion to the Gila Wilderness Dam controversy, engineers benefitted from knowing the regional engineering dilemmas within New Mexico. It was great to see interchanges between engineers as well as the many questions asked of speakers. Remember to be on the watch for the state convention in June and plan to attend. The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) will be discussing NSPE Position Paper (PP) 168. This position paper deals with NSPE’s support that engineers should be required to obtain a master’s level engineering degree prior to obtaining (by exam) a professional engineer’s license. The position paper is still undergoing discussion and will be voted on at the next NSPE Annual Conference in July. I urge members and non-members to review the proposed policy and provide your chapter or state board with your opinions. As your House of Delegate Member, I will be voting on this issue and would like your comments. My email address is [email protected]. Ask others to join NMSPE and get involved!
