QF ramps up agent siteQANTAS has relaunched its
industry sales operations under a new “Qantas Agency Connect” brand, with a new dedicated website to provide travel agents with the “knowledge, information and service support” to help generate more QF sales.
The portal is now live at qantasagencyconnect.com, with QF head of agency partnerships, Rob Harrison, saying it’s the first initiative of the Qantas Partner Program which will “transform and improve the way we work with our agency partners”.
Travel agency managers are required to register their locations during May to ensure access to the full functionality
of the new platform, while an agency password will be required from the start of Jun.
Agencies already registered for the Qantas Industry Sales site don’t need to re-register.
The new site allows agents to manage bookings, get fare quotes, waitlist clients, lodge ticket and name change requests and check flight status.
As with the previous site, agents can make domestic and trans-Tasman bookings directly with Qantas, rather than via GDS.
Carnival incentiveCARNIVAL Cruise Line is
encouraging agents to book their clients on US cruises by offering the opportunity to attend the Carnival Horizon naming ceremony in New York.
Flights to the USA and a four night cruise to Bermuda are included in the prize - for more details, see the cover wrap.

HLO inbound riding highHELLOWORLD’S inbound
operations are going “extremely well,” according to the company’s executive director Cinzia Burnes.
Speaking to TD at Australian Tourism Exchange in Adelaide yesterday, Burnes said the group’s AOT Inbound, ETA and ATS Pacific brands were “effective, efficient and very profitable” with traditional markets including the UK, US and Europe still the mainstay of the business.
Burnes noted that it was her 35th Australian Tourism Exchange with the Helloworld business benefiting from AOT’s many years of industry engagement.
Helloworld branded collateral on the AOT stand invited suppliers to “capture your share of 1.5 million room nights in Australia annually,” with contracted product to be sold via HLO’s full range of channels including inbound, wholesale, online & government brands.
“Our overall business is showing significant growth,” the brochure noted, inviting suppliers to become part of AOT Inbound’s Preferred Supplier Partner and Helloworld’s Diamond Preferred Supplier programs.
MEANWHILE, Helloworld also today confirmed the finalisation of its acquisition of Flight Systems Pty Ltd, the parent firm of online agency Skiddoo (TD 20 Mar).
CEO Andrew Burnes said the consideration was “not material,” adding that “Flight Systems is an important strategic step in strengthening Helloworld Travel’s systems development capability”.

Marriott loyalty unificationMARRIOTT International has
“unlocked the full potential” of its loyalty programs, according to svp of Global Loyalty David Flueck, with the hotelier revealing it will introduce one set of unified benefits across Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guests (SPG).
The unified benefits will take effect in Aug, providing members with the ability to earn more points faster - on average, 20% more points for every dollar spent, Marriott said.
For the first time, members will have access to book stays and earn or redeem points among the 29 participating brands, consisting of 6,500 hotels in 127 countries and territories globally.
“Our members can enjoy one set of benefits across our extraordinary portfolio of hotels from iconic full and select service, to extended stay, to unique boutiques and luxury brands,”
Flueck commented.Members of Marriott Rewards,
The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG will be able to combine their accounts into a single account, spanning the entire portfolio.
The loyalty program names will continue to be used until a new program name rolls out in 2019.
Starting Aug, travellers will also have the ability to book stays across the entire collection for the first time on Marriott.com and SPG.com, as well as the Marriott and SPG apps, or via a customer call centre.
Under the unified benefits, a single points currency will be introduced and blackout dates for points redemption will be axed.
Marriott also said its Moments experiential platform, currently offering 110,00 experiences such as attraction tickets and tours in 1,000 locations, will be expanded to include Moments Live event series - CLICK HERE for more.
A GERMAN technological entrepreneur has become so tired of her boorish male colleagues that she has opened her own private island retreat - and no men are allowed.
SuperShe Island is a four-hectare “no man’s land” off the coast of Finland, with four cabins for up to 10 people.
Offerings include saunas, spa services and a series of wellness activities like yoga, meditation and fitness classes.
Its creator, Kristina Roth, told CNBC the island was inspired by her experiences in the male-dominated world of technology.
“I’m a computer scientist, and I worked only with men. Ergo, how many times did I have to listen to ‘Hey blondie, what are you doing here?’,” Roth said.

MoneyInfrastructure call
INADEQUATE infrastructure and barriers to private sector investment are creating impediments to tourism growth in Australia, according to a report prepared by the Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF).
The research report, Tourism: Supercharging Australia’s Future, found tourism spending is expected to grow by around $74 billion, or 57%, to hit $204 billion by 2026, and that tourism is set to overtake manufacturing as Australia’s biggest employer.
But the report - developed with tourism economists Stafford Strategy - also examines barriers to growth including questions around infrastructure.
Australia’s tourism infrastructure needs are being discussed today at TTF’s Outlook 2018 conference at Hilton Sydney.
Panelists include TFE Hotels ceo Rachel Argaman and Carnival Cruise Lines Australia president Sture Myrmell.

SQ next-gen cabin on show
THE next generation of cabin products for Singapore Airlines was on static display at the Ennex Mall in Perth last week, where 25 agents had the opportunity to try out the new products that will be offered on its Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner flights between Singapore and Perth, effective 07 May (TD 23 Feb).
The new cabins feature fully-flat beds and direct aisle access for Business class, ergonomically-designed contour backrests with adjustable headrests in Economy, as well as personalised in-flight entertainment for all customers through myKrisWorld.
SIA ceo Goh Choon Phong said the new offerings would redefine travel on medium-haul flights up to eight hours.
“The introduction of the new cabin products on our Boeing 787-10 fleet reinforces our unwavering commitment to
product leadership, one of the key pillars of our brand promise.”
SIA is investing US$350m in 20 of the 787-10s, with a firm order of 49 in total scheduled, along with a further 20 Boeing 777-9s from the 2021-22 financial year.

SO THE XXI Commonwealth Games have come to a close with an amazing best ever effort by the Australian team with a medal haul of gigantic proportions - 80 golds, 59 silver and 59 bronze, for a total of 198 medals.
The next best effort was to England with 45 gold, 45 silver and 46 bronze. A really stunning achievement by the Australian team with heaps of records being
broken and what will be known for some time as Australia’s best Commonwealth Games.
But it wasn’t perhaps the best for the organising committee which has come under significant criticism for the way it approached both the opening ceremony and, perhaps even worse, the closing ceremony. Commonwealth Games, like the Olympic Games, are meant to be all about the athletes and sport. It seems that those in charge of the closing ceremony and the broadcasting of it either forgot about that or got so stuck in their own creative bubble that they managed to “stuff up” so badly. I used the term “stuff up” as that was the term used in response to the criticism by the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman and former Queensland Premier Peter Beattie. That’s all well and good that the chairman takes the hit and apologises, but you can’t do a go-over of a closing ceremony of a Commonwealth Games, you only get one shot at it and unfortunately the Gold Coast version will go down in history as a royal stuff up.
In the end, it is now what it is, and it is over for another four years when the athletes will gather once again in Birmingham, England, in 2022 for the XXII Commonwealth Games. No doubt over the course of the next four years plenty of debate and concentration will be placed on what an opening and closing ceremony should look like. We can only hope that lessons will be learnt and improvements made so that the next time the Commonwealth countries get together, they get it right.
On a final note and importantly, I don’t think any of the controversy impacted on the quality of the games themselves and of course for the athletes it is about their individual performances and medals. Well done to all involved.
