We would like to welcome Caitlyn Plug to William of Orange! She will be replacing Tania Grim as

Educational Assistant for the remainder of the school year. Caitlyn was born, raised, and educated in

Australia and has worked in our schools there with special needs students for three years. She is

currently living in Aldergrove, working at Credo High 2 days per week, and will be working here at

William of Orange on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We are thankful the Lord has provided this

opportunity!

Please continue to pray for Tania, that the Lord will surround her and her family with his love and care as

she undergoes treatment for leukaemia.

TAEKWONDO

Thanks to a parent’s suggestion, we have scheduled Taekwondo classes for the grades K-5 students.

Instructors from Chang’s Taekwondo will be coming to our school on Wednesday afternoons, February

1st, 8th, & 15th, and providing the K-5 students with a 45-minute instruction session in the school gym.

Students, please remember to wear or take along your Taekwondo shirt for the sessions!

ASSEMBLY CANCELLED Please note: The gr 6/7 assembly, scheduled for Feb 15th, has been cancelled for a variety of reasons.

Please remove it from your school calendar.

BASKETBALL The grade 6/7 students will be participating in the CESS Mixed Basketball Tournament on Friday,

February 17th at Cornerstone Christian School in Abbotsford (3970 Gladwin Road). Permission slips with

more information were sent home today.

The grade 6/7 students will continue the tradition of curling lessons. They will be doing so

on February 20th, 27th, & March 6th at the Cloverdale Curling Rink. Further details and a

permission slip were sent home today.

SPELLING BEE A Tri-school Spelling Bee is planned for Fri., Feb 24th (probably 10 a.m.) at John Calvin School in Yarrow.

More details in the coming weeks, but please mark it on your calendar as we’d love to have spectators.

SICKNESS Lately a significant number of students have succumbed to the flu, cold or the "winter

vomiting bug." For colds and flu, typically children are contagious on the day before

symptoms manifest, and about 5 to 7 days afterwards. Children don't need to stay home for

the full period they are contagious. However, if your child is sick, please consider not only

their needs, but also whether they are likely to pass on the bug to their school mates,

especially with frequent coughing.

FSA’s During the coming weeks, the Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) will again be conducted at schools

across the province. The FSA is an annual province-wide assessment of our province’s students'

academic skills in grades 4 and 7, and provides a snapshot of how well BC students are learning

foundation skills in Reading Comprehension, Writing, and Numeracy. While statistically it may be

questionable to read too much into results for students in a particular (small) school, over time results

do give indicators of trends and overall strengths and weaknesses of an educational program. Not only

can the testing experience be a learning opportunity for students, but the tests also offer parents an

independent assessment of your child’s skills. Consequently, we’re happy to participate.

EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING – SNOW DAYS Just a little reminder - “When extreme weather occurs and creates hazardous driving

conditions, school may be cancelled. Please listen to your radio station, CKNW 980 AM or

Praise 106.5 FM or check the websites www.wofo.org or www.credochs.com for school

cancellations. The decision to cancel school by our transportation committee will be made

by 6:30am. All schools affected will be announced separately by the radio stations.”

SNOW AGAIN!
