    Wild West

Legendary buffalo hunter, military scout andshowman William F. Buffalo BillCody lived atNorth Platte on his 4,000 acre ranch he calledScouts Rest Ranch. His grand Victorian mansionwas built there in 1886. Sixteen acres of theranch became Buffalo Bill State Historical Park.

GETTING STARTEDThis is a land rich with dreams.Even when danger lled theair from Ogallalas rough-and-tumble cattle drives to thenotorious Sidney-to-DeadwoodTrail, dreams lived on. WhenNorth Platte had a vision of anIndependence Day blowout,William F. Cody dreamed uphis globe-trotting Buffalo BillsWild West Show. But cowboysin their wildest dreams couldnthave dreamed of the pleasurevoyage now enjoyed in WildWest Country where a SandhillsSea was created with LakeMcConaughy. Nebraskas biggestlake is 35,000 acres, with 100shoreline miles of white, sandybeaches. This dream journeyopens up to new horizons pastBig Springs, where rolling hillscarry on to the open range westtoward Sidney and Kimball.
